Food is fine, just ok. The counter staff are awful. We have been told that our order would be ready in thirty minutes, showed up after 40 and waited an additional half hour for our food only to learn that some elements of the order had been complete and cooling for much of that time. We have ordered and waited 90 minutes for delivery then, five minutes prior to closing, received calls from the restaurant saying they couldn't find drivers and have canceled our order while still charging us. On these occasions we have been promised free dishes, discounts and all sorts of services to make up for our inconvenience; none of these offers have been honored. The Korean food is good and portions are generous. The sushi is enjoyable and likewise generously portioned. The staff is always quick and helpful, and very friendly. My favorites are the chirashi bowl, the soondubu, and the bibimbap. The pork bulgogi is also good. read more

This place used to be Yama, but changed its name after a change in ownership. However, everything is worse after the change. Virtually everything on the menu has gone through a price hike. The beloved lunch special is no more, replaced by the more pricey "benton special". Here is my experience. The waiter literally tossed the menu in front of me. He was asking me "what you want to eat", in a plain, dry voice. He didn't even bother to ask what my preferences are, nor recommend anything special on the menu. I ordered a kalbi benton special. Well, the portion looks OK for lunch but probably not worth the price. But the kalbi itself tastes good. Overall I won't recommend this place to anyone. read more

My wife and I went here to celebrate my birthday! I had walked by this restaurant many times but this was our first visit and a great success! Atmosphere very nice with soft background music that does not interfere with conventional. Service very nice. Food delicious! We had just returned from Japan and this places featured both Japanese and Korean cuisine but the real deal and very delicious! We had an order of Kopdol Bi Bim Bab (the extra 2 dollars for the hot stone bowl is great). We also got an order of vegetable tempura great and large and a salmon sushi roll, all excellent! I always come here when I crave Korean food or some hot soup to help me recover from a long weekend. The soups here are great and hearty especially if you're sick. My goto is the yukgejang (spicy soup with noodles and beef). I also really like the kimchi stew (it's a bit spicy and salty). The service is also really great. I never have to ask for water and sometimes they even give barley tea on the house! The owner and all the servers are very nice and I always feel welcome. read more

Summary: Amazing service even when very busy. And Hanover Roll is INCREDIBLE. So, I come to Sushiya about once a month. Every time I order the Hanover Roll because it's soo good. If you like different textures in your mouth: shrimp tempura (crunchy) and cream cheese (soft), it's awesome. Reasonably priced as well. But most importantly, service is very good. There's one guy that works here - I think he might be the manager because he's always there - that works so hard. He'll be sweating, busing tables, waiting, etc. While I've only personally had the Hanover Roll, my friends frequently order their Korean food, which the say is very good. I know the Dartmouth Roll is also favored. All in all, my favorite sushi place in the country! And I'm from California. Seriously, the Hanover Roll is that good! Sushiya is great! I consistently get fast, friendly service, the place is always impeccable, and the food is delicious. I absolutely adore their Tropical Roll, and I love that they have all the basics and some really fun, creative sushi options. The quality of the sushi has been excellent. I love this place. The food is freakin incredible. I love the Korean bibimbap... I swear to God, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The place is big and always busy (at least on weekends, which is when I go). Some of the waitstaff seem cold, but I think that's just because they don't speak a lick of English. Went there on a Monday evening in hope of getting some sushi to go. It was 845pm, sign on the door said they closed at 10pm. When we entered we were immediately shoo'd away by a man saying "sorry, we just closed". Strange they close at 845pm? Door wasn't locked, place seemed fully staffed. Been here many times. Overall I will say that it is pretty good. For a smaller town like Hanover certainly deserving of 4 stars. The sushi is not bad. Ditto for the korean food. I just had lunch there with my hubby. We ordered food worth a little less than 30 dollar. Service is a bit slow given the number of customers. Nobody stopped by to ask how we are doing during our meal. The only thing the waiter asked us is "Are you done with your soy sauce?" and take our soy sauce for the sushi away. So we only tipped 10% for the meal based on the service. However when we were walking out, a waitress at the front desk stopped us and asked us to tip more. We were so embarrassed and upset by this experience. Will NEVER dine there again! read more

My first time so I let my coworkers recommend lunch options. Most had a beef Bento box, which was excellent. One friend asked if it could be spicy, though that wasn't shown on the menu but the chef did a great job. I sampled and wished I'd gotten the spicy version too. GREAT place to bring your friends! Not too expensive, great food, and the service is unbelievable! There is one waiter there that recognizes me every time I go (even if years go by in between) and he remembers little things that I like. He'll bring my favorite tea or a bowl of edamame to the table without me asking on the house! He makes great recommendations and is enthusiastic about their work. My friends and I always have a great time! We order a mix of sushi and Korean food and then we all share and we walk away happy and satisfied without being excessively full. GREAT place! read more

What a disappointment! We used to eat at Yama regularly, but when it was sold to these people, they were consistently understaffed with long wait times for a while. Tonight we ordered take out - Pad Thai had no flavor, no color, no sauce. Kids barely ate it. Soup was blah and 3 entrees with a soup cost over $50. We keep trying to go back hoping it will return to the quality of the previous owners, but no go. We won't be going back again. read more

The price is absurd for the quality of fish. Their Korean offerings are decent, but having just had the sashimi platter I can definitively say that was my worst experience ever with raw fish. My date has Crohn's disease and typically loves sushi, but experienced some digestive distress after this. I suspect that they use substitute tuna instead of real tuna, and much much of the fish tasted like it had been out in the open for days. Fishy, oily, dry, crunchy. Disgusting. I thought nothing in Hanover could beat Yama... but Sushi Ya does! This restaurant used to be Yama, which was by far our favorite restaurant in the Upper Valley- they had very fresh fish for sushi, good Korean food, and a friendly wait staff. We were very worried when it changed ownership and became Sushi Ya, but they took a great thing and made it better. Their menu is mostly unchanged, their sushi is just as good, and they've added some nice touches- the presentation of their Sake Don (raw salmon over rice) is much more attractive and now includes salmon roe, for example. They've added some new lunch box specials, too. Plus, we were never very impressed by their Japanese food when this place was Yama- their Udon was quite bland and the teriyaki was so-so- but now they have improved even this, and their Udon at least is quite good (have not tried the teriyaki). It's great to have a reasonably priced, go-to Asian restaurant in Hanover! Highly recommended! read more
