Even though this sounds like a sushi place..they have amazing chinese food. I don't eat fish so this place is absolutely great for my husband to get the sushi he wants and for me to get Chinese. I always judge a Chinese place by its fried rice, crab ragoon, and egg rolls. All three are some of the best I have had in Peoria. The crab ragoons actually have crab in them, unlike the ones you get at buffets. They are really small and sort of pricey for their size, but they are definatley worth it! As for the sushi, all I know is that it's reasonably priced and my husband loves it. My friends also get their sushi their once a week because they love it so much. read more

One of the worst experiences I've had eating at an Asian restaurant. I was part of a large group, and I'm well aware that is going to cause delays and some confusion. Also, my part of the party arrived about 20 minutes late, so we knew our food would be behind everyone else's. Oddly enough, we received our appetizer BEFORE others who had gotten there before. One of my party received her appetizer and meal about ten minutes after arriving. Another received her meal about fifteen minutes after that. I received my meal nearly 30 minutes after my other two had gotten theirs; in short, nearly everyone in my party and at my table was finished before I had gotten my food. No, I did not order something with a long wait time, either. This would have been tolerable had the quality of the food was up to snuff. It wasn't. The Peking pulled pork was badly textured, oversauced, and contained no fresh element on the plate whatsoever. What happened to the veggies? Basically, I was given a very unappetizing pile of barbecue "pork" with very bland rice on the side. The flavor was not good. My partner ordered an entree that was supposed to have scallions; the scallions were switched out with green peppers, a vegetable she HATES (although her dish did have better flavor). The appetizer, the pot stickers, was okay, but the dipping sauce was not very good and, and the potstickers were very, VERY small. But to be honest, the worst part of the experience was the service....very bad service. We had no less than five different people that waited on us at some portion of the meal (not our large group as a whole; just my party of three). One of the waiters was...touchy-feely. Not a big touchy-feely guy, but a waiter should never put his hand on your shoulder or hands...it's just not comfortable regardless of gender or orientation. The same waiter brought out a dish that was wrong (sweet and sour shrimp instead of sweet and sour chicken)...and initially insisted on giving the incorrect dish to the person who ordered, reasoning, "We're just going to charge you for the chicken." Okay...what if that person had a food allergy??? Or, simpler than that: what if they just DON'T want the shrimp? I've never seen such audacity; thankfully, they did take the dish back and bring back the correct one 30 minutes later. This was my first and last experience at this restaurant. The decor is nice, but the quality of food and service were abysmal. I did not try the sushi -- which I heard has a great reputation -- for this reason: if you cannot get the basics of restaurant service correct, why should I trust you with such a delicate preparation? I happened to be staying at the embassy suites and mentioned i would love to find a great place for sushi in the peoria area...the front desk lady mentioned po po's..she seemed like she knew what she was talking about so me and the fam checked it out! The whole shopping center area freaked me out a bit but those usually tend to be the best eats (aka the "hole in the wall"). We tried a few rolls, me-spicy tuna&cali roll and i happened to get the cali roll with a soy wrap, which is unbelievably light in taste!! They also had good selections for non sushi eaters and they bring free Edammame out to every table. Their sushi chef was really awesome too. Sushi Ko has become one of the three sushi places in Peoria to visit. Along with happy fish and sushigawa. Firstly, the owner, Hattie, is gracious and does his best effort to say hello and goodbye to each guest with a bow. Secondly, the ambience is very open and the arrangement is nice. And lastly, the sushi is delish and fresh. Spider roll, rainbow, spicy tuna, and any nigiri is fantastic. It makes my mouth water thinking of the spicy tuna crunch roll with a little dollop of spicy mayo on top. I find myself returning with friends and family to show them sushi Ko. Not the best sushi in town, but not terrible by any means. The chef is as friendly and personable as anyone you will ever encounter in the restaurant biz. Unfortunately, that friendliness seems lost on the other employees who are often quite rude. Their Monday night 25% off special, along with complimentary edamame, goes a long way in making up for their few shortcomings, but after last night's experience - they have lost my business. Apparently they have a new policy in place - should you do them the favor of placing your takeout order online, they will no longer apply the 25% Monday night discount at pickup. However, if you call and make someone step away from their patrons, or ignore a customer who is waiting to pay, while taking an order over the phone... You will still get the discount. It really makes no sense, and Sushi KO has lost a couple longtime (approx. twice-a-month) customers over a $6 discount. read more

I have been coming here for years, and every time I walk through the door I am greeted with the warmest smile. The owner of this restaurant takes every opportunity to make you feel at home and relaxed. They take care of everything, and provide great service. Sometimes they even discount your meal, just for being you! Beside the service the food is amazing! They have a very wide variety of dishes, and I haven't had one yet I didn't enjoy! In Peoria, I'd probably rank their sushi the lowest. Sushi Popo has no competition with places in town like Happy Fish orSushi Gawa. If you're going to eat there I'd recommend that you not bother with the sushi and just have one of their dishes. Officially my favorite Asian restaurant in peoria. Im currently here for business with my work primarily being in Chicago. I gotta say although it's not the best ive comparee to places like LA and asia itself, their list of Asian food is pretty authentic for place like peoria. Although it is a Chinese run restaurant (like a lot of Japanese named restaurants in the Midwest), what I appreciate is their attempt at straying away from westernizing their food. The fact that they have pretty legit szechuan offering is a HUGE plus (none of that general tso chicken crap). Didn't try their sushi this time, but I'm sure its decent for the area. This used to be the best place in Peoria for sushi. What happened? The only reason I gave them 2 stars is because the sushi chef is so genuinely friendly every single time we have been there and always smiling and happy. I just wish he worked somewhere else because he's the ONLY reason that we go back. We went on a Wednesday night. The sushi tonight was good, as it always is, but the service was very slow, most of the tables were not bussed and/ or dirty, and there was only one server and she wasn't moving very quickly. The place was beautifully decorated when they did their remodel a couple of years ago, but it's cluttered-looking and there was junk piled around everywhere. It's very sad to see it decline, and I honestly don't think I can bring myself to go back there. read more

This is the BEST sushi place ever. I have been to quite a few sushi places all over. This is not just the best in Peoria, but the best in the country. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The other dishes are also absolutely wonderful. They have the best Mongolian beef and Crab Rangoon. The Rangoon will melt in your mouth and cause you to order another round. The service you will receive is incredible. The waiters and waitress are extremely nice and helpful, as well as the owner/sushi chef. Sushi Ko is definitely the best sushi in Peoria. The service is great, and the sushi is even better. We always receive friendly service and are greeted with a smile. My husband always starts with the hot and sour soup, and I get the miso. If you are looking for a great appetizer, both the crab Rangoon and the pork potstickers are Phenomenal. If you aren't a sushi fan the lemon chicken is a sure win, I haven't met anyone yet who didn't think it was delicious. As far as sushi goes, of course spicy tuna is always a safe bet, but we also enjoy the sunrise roll, spider roll, Philadelphia roll, and the rainbow roll. Best sushi place in Peoria!! The house roll is the best sushi I've had, and I brought a friend who had lived in Japan and he said it was on par with some of the stuff he had there.
