New to the city and wanted to find a local sushi place. Came for dinner on a Friday for two around 6PM and it was not busy- only one other party seated. Staff was friendly and service was good. I'm assuming the older staff members working were the owners(??). Tempura was good and had a nice varietyn The rice could be seasoned a little more, especially since the rolls have quite of bit of rice in them. Funny enough we went here after visiting the aquarium. About 1pm and not busy on a Saturday. Not sure what to make of that, but we ventured on. We all had the dinner AYCE. We thought we were riding the lunch. But if you order off the other side of the menu it counts as dinner. No big deal - be warned. When I judge the nigiri I use a rice to fish ratio. The chef must have big hands or they are trying to fill you up on rice. Much more rice that sushi here than any other place I've been to. Everything was tasty. This is in response to a post from two weeks ago. When we visited around 1:30 pm, there was a sign on the door indicating they were short-staffed and only serving sushi rolls. Despite this, we were seated immediately upon arrival. Based on another Yelp recommendation, we opted not to go for the all-you-can-eat option and instead ordered a few rolls. We're glad we took this advice, as even with my husband being hungry after an 18-hour fast, we found it difficult to finish a whole roll and a few more. I was on my way to a tried and true spot up the road but I'm here and going to give Sushi Yu a shot. We went here for the first time and were pleasantly surprised by the sushi variety and quality. For Utah, it was really good. The waitress was very nice and it didn't take too long to get our order. The one thing we didn't enjoy was that it was hot in there. We felt that the AC was not on and it actually felt cooler outside. It's also very quiet in there; the music is playing but you can barely hear it so we caught ourselves whispering to talk. All you can eat sushi!! Pricing was pretty good, about $28 per person and the service was pretty quick! The establishment itself is a bit small but it wasn't really busy when we stopped in so that was totally fine! The A/C wasn't on & I'm not sure if they normally have their A/C running so it was a bit stuffy with only 3 parties in the building(granted yesterday did have a high of 102 farenheit) Back to the good stuff! We were greeted right away and seated. Staff was very on top of their service so it was very prompt and quick! I got the Las Vegas roll, the salmon & tamago nigiri, the summer long roll & a spicy Cali hand roll, ALL amazing! The Las Vegas roll and Cali hand rolls are my "play it safe" rolls when visiting a new sushi spot & they were just as amazing as they are at other restaurants. The nigiri was top notch! The salmon tasted fresh and wasn't dry & you can never go wrong with the tamago! The summer roll was light & simple and the flavors blended super well together! All in all, the food was fooding! We visit this delicious sushi joint at least twice a month if not more. We enjoy getting to know the staff, they are amazing. We always get big smiles when we walk in. The sushi is 15/10!! All you can eat with so many yummy choices to choose from. I recommend this place to all that love cooked and raw sushi.. read more

First I don't like to write negative reviews because I want business to do well locally. BUT I had write this, because I don't want you to get cheated. I ordered Nigiri (Rice and Fish on top). What I got was a Gigantic Sticky Rice Ball with thin slice of fish. The rice was like 3 times more then normal, and fish was 1/3 the thickness of a normal Nigiri slice. There is a horrible smell as soon as you walk in. Which makes it very hard to eat. Secondly the service was below average. Female Server was rude! Thirdly, the sushi was not the hype it was out to be. The raw fish on my nigiri was warm & very dry which is a big turn off for me. Since it is all you can eat, for the price this is not a bad place for sushi. It has very much the same menu items as the other all you can eat places but with better presentations. The place is clean, and the services are prompt. Sushi wise, the ingredients are fresh, decent amount of seafood for each roll and they don't stuff every roll with a bunch of rice as a filler, I think the only thing is that everything is on the blend side. Overall, not bad, definitely will return when I have sushi cravings but tight on budget. read more

I don't consider myself an adventurous eater even though I like to try new foods. I'm also not hard to please but I really enjoy Sushi Yu. They have quite an extensive list of rolls in my opinion, and I haven't found any I haven't liked yet. I have also tried several options from their Asian cuisine a la carte menu and haven't been disappointed. The service has always been great for me. I haven't had extensive conversations with the wait staff they are attentive and provide feedback on the menu when needed. I have only been able to visit in the evening, but only once have I been able to eat enough to make the All You Can Eat price worth it. I usually order a few of the basic rolls and that is more than filling. If you order the more interesting rolls, then I can see the AYCE price being a good option since they tend to be higher in price. read more

Honestly place has really good sushi but the service is terrible. My solution is to order take out and eat at home to avoid it. The young waitress was really frustrated with us and ended up ignoring us towards the end of our visit. I actually came in for my birthday because I love the sushi here so I have been here once before but it was my friends and family's first time. The All you can eat sushi is ordered by marking which sushi you want on a paper. My guests were not told how to mark the page and there was confusion in our orders. It was a simple miscommunication but the waitress was visibly frustrated with us and actually walked away while we're were apologizing for the misunderstanding. Since it was my birthday we brought a cake and asked for extra plates and forks. After the miscommunication the waitress ignored us and we did not receive them to have cake. We waited as everyone around us got their checks but since she was clearly ignoring us we had to stand up to pay our bill and take the cake home to eat. The service would be better if there was another way to order sushi instead of making the customer do it themselves since the waitress will just get mad at you if you do it wrong.- she was also the only waitress so we couldn't get help from someone else- read more

Sushi was good for an all you can eat. We had 8 in our party and everyone found lots they liked. When we got there it was pretty empty, but it got busier the longer we were there. The service was good, when it got busier it understandably got slower, but was fine. read more

There isn't that many all you can eat sushi in the city. I was driving by a couple weeks ago and passed right by the restaurant. Today i finally decided to give it a try. Now they have two options lunch and dinner or you can simply pay per roll. I tried the lunch portion for $19.99, they have a very good selection for all you can eat. I mostly eat nigiri rolls when i go out for sushi unless my wife tags along then i might get a couple rolls. The dinner menu offer a bigger selection of sushi rolls compared to the lunch portion which i feel it's like your basic sushi rolls. I started off with a bowl of miso soup, and ordered two orders of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and upside down shrimp nigiri. I ordered one crystal shrimp hand roll and one shrimp tempura roll. The service was great, the food came out fast and tasted fresh. I think for the price you can't go wrong trying this place out. read more

Absolutely horrid service, if you like eating in a sauna this place is for you. No air conditioning or hospitality. Started to place an order and decided to leave as I couldn't bare sitting in there any longer, it was very dirty and floor was super sticky. The waitress who helped us did not understand anything we were saying and would not let you order ala carte if another person was doing all you can eat. I love their sushi. The burritos are my favorite but everything I've tried has been yummy. I'm addicted. It's a good thing it's 20 miles away or I would be there all the time. The first time we were there I took a bottle of non alcoholic beverage to toast motherhood with my six daughters and when the waitress opened it it exploded! Do not be fooled by the photos, the rice was dry and hard. Below average tasting sushi, the rice underneath the fish was very big. As part of the all you can eat, I was also told that I can't order round 2 until I finish all the rice. With such large proportion of rice underneath THIN small piece of fish, it will be difficult to enjoy the experience. There was absolutely nothing good about our experience at Sushi Yu. The food was bland, they mandated that you eat all the rice. Then they pack double the rice on every roll. There were only 4 tables with people at them (out of 13 tables) and the service was outrageously slow. Plus it was 30 degrees outside and they had the AC blasting. Every table had people wearing their winter coats While they are. But cold temps and slow service can't overcome the horrible food. We will NEVER be back! read more
