    Complimentary plate of edamame.
    Lauren H.

I've always wanted to try Sushi Ya, since I've started walking to work over a year ago, and walk by this place almost everyday, and tonight was my chance! From the outside, it looks like very small from the glimpse I get walking past it, and that's very true from the inside as well, as I discovered tonight, it was definitely an intimate setting, and not very busy on a Saturday night when I walked in around 6:15pm after work. There were only two people working, the chef and the waitress. She was on top of everything, I was seated the moment I walked in and handed a menu and a photo album of their specials, and combo's. I had ordered Combo 131, which included a salmon maki roll, Philadelphia roll, and a spicy tuna roll, which came with miso soup, and I had also ordered a seaweed salad, and green tea. The prices are not AYCE sushi, it's A La Carte style. So my order came to around $24 and some change after all was said and done, and although it doesn't seem like a lot of food, it was, I was very full afterwards. The service was quick, when I came in she handed me a complimentary small plate of edamame, which was cold, but it was still good, and took my order and promptly brought out my green tea and water. I was by myself tonight, so it was nice just to take in everything. The entire place is small and there was a couple other groups there as I enjoyed my meal. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would love to come back and try the lunch special.

Sashimi bento box lunch special-$12.99 and you can choose California, spicy tuna, or salmon roll

Sushi Ya runs a phenomenal lunch special! They were pretty busy when I visited at around 1 PM on a Friday, so you might want to get there on the early side if you're on a short lunch break. They offer a variety of bento boxes ranging from $10 - $13, with inari (tofu pockets) on the low end, and sashimi on the high end. The boxes come with a sushi roll (you can choose from California, spicy tuna, or salmon), salad, a couple of dumplings, and your main dish. They're preceded by a fantastic bowl of miso soup. It's plenty of food to fill you up, and a great deal. The sashimi I tried was excellent: thick cuts of tender, fresh, flavorful fish. I'll be back for sure! The rest of the menu looks good as well, and is decently priced. But lunch seems to be the really super deal. Metered parking on the street outside.

This place is small and easy to miss, but don't let that fool you - it's good! As soon as we sat down they brought us complimentary edamame, which was a nice surprise. And the sushi itself is very tasty. They also offer rolls made with brown rice, which is really hard to find at sushi restaurants in London. I'll definitely be going back!

I had a pre-made roll so the salmon wasnt like super freshly torched but it still tasted really good.

My partner and I decided to celebrate the end of our quarantine period by ordering some take-out from Roll Roll. The call was quick and easy and pick up was extremely sanitary. I waited outside for the patrons before me to complete their order, and the hostess took time to sanitize everything before I entered. I didn't need to touch anything besides the platter, and the sanitized debit machine. Now...the sushi...my goodness!! We ordered the small combo platter. While a bit more expensive than other places, I absolutely LOVE their spin on sushi. I believe they included: -The Bruce Roll which was crab meat, cucumber inside torched salmon & jalapeno on top (Super tasty!) -Roll Roll Roll - Shrimp Tempura, cucumber, avocado inside, spicy crabmeat on top (This was my favourite!) -California roll and some salmon sushi and a few bites of sashimi Overall, the platter was presented beautifully with some cute accents of dried fruit and greens and it was filling for the 2 of us. If you are looking for a great local spot for some take-out during your social isolation, roll on into ROLL ROLL!

We loved the curtain at the entrance, the sleek black decor, the cherry blossom tree, and the glowing moon feature. The space felt comfortable, clean, and more romantic than we expected. Service was warm and attentive as well. The food matched the ambiance. Their approach seems to lean toward a creative Japanese-Korean fusion, and everything we tried was delicious. I ordered the Salmon Lover Combo, and it was a lot of sushi--in the best way. The fish was fresh, and the addition of sprouts on top was a fun, unexpected touch. The salmon pizza was another standout: generous in portion and full of flavour--crispy, saucy, and fresh. My partner's ramen was hearty and comforting, and the cheese wontons we shared were excellent. We especially enjoyed the thinly sliced chillies on top, which added a playful kick. Our second visit, however, was more of a 3/5 experience. I ordered the katsu, and while the flavour was good, the chef placed the salad directly on top of the cutlet, which made it turn watery by the end. It was still a pleasant meal overall, just not as memorable or polished as our first time.

In the picture I took, the excellent, homemade-tasting, oniony curry sauce is off to the side so you can add it to the katsu (and rice) just before you dig in. She commented especially favourably on the tempura crispy bits throughout the bowl, which provided great texture. Go here. Order. You won't be sorry. The only decent dish was the tempura ($6) which was hot, had a good variety of mushrooms, broccoli, sweet potatoes and eggplant and provided more than the 6 pieces advertised. The gyoza ($6) were deep fried despite my request and I'd be willing to bet that they were in fact the type that you can purchase frozen already deep fried and then refried when ordered. They were incredibly dry and hard. The beef enoki mushroom dish ($12) tasted stale and heavily coated in the sauce it is served with. I'm guessing to disguise the fact that the beef was turning. The hot and sour soup ($6) was bland, though the tofu had a nice texture and the soup had lots of white mushrooms in it which I liked. The spicy tuna rolls ($6.5) were the most egregious disappointment. They used canned tuna! It was terrible. I won't be going back. For the $40 this meal cost I could have purchased similar items of superior quality at the grocery store for half the price.
