    This is flavorless ice cream.

We stopped in this past weekend. We were greeted by a man holding a baby in a car seat and then seated. The baby spent most of the time on top of the front counter by the door. But, it wasn't crying. We ordered the all you can eat sushi. First thing I noticed that there was no Rock Shrimp or Mussels, which the sushi places in the Albany area do have. When we placed our order, we found out that sashimi is NOT included in the all you can eat price. There is an upcharge for each piece. I ordered some soup, seaweed salad, crab rangoon, sushi and a hand roll. My wife also ordered some hibachi steak. As we waited for our food to arrive, I realized that we were not given plates, just a bowl for soy sauce and one napkin with chop sticks and a fork. There was A LOT of rice on the sushi and in the hand roll. My wife and I can put away some sushi and we were full pretty quick. The hibachi steak was really good. Not sure what the sauce was. The steak was tasty by itself and really moist. On the plus side - the wasabi had a nice kick to it. I finished the meal with some ice cream and was surprised to see it came in a container like you buy in bulk from the grocery store. It was okay, I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. And if I was in the area, it wouldn't be my first place to eat - and I really do like sushi.

In general, I'm not a fan of the all you can eat sushi situation. I'm a skeptic. I worry about restaurants cutting corners and not serving the freshest stuff because running a restaurant is tough and competitive. I was also slightly concerned about the location-just seemed a bit off the beaten path for a Japanese restaurant. But-I gave it a shot and wasn't disappointed! We arrived a few minutes after they opened and when we left, there were only a few vacant tables. I'll get to the service in a minute...let's talk about the food. We stuck to basic sushi pieces and rolls, mostly. We started with hot sake, hot tea and ice water. Tried the avocado cucumber salad and seaweed salad - both good. The rolls and pieces were very fresh-I was surprised at how delicious the salmon was. Yellowtail was just average as was the tuna. Overall, the quality of the food was solid. The service started out pretty rough...not super friendly upon arrival and our initial wait staff member literally did not speak. Super awkward. Then, when our "main plate" of food was ready, it was delivered to the wrong table. The guy that received it said that he didn't touch it...and we had to take his/their word for it. We are still alive, so that's good news. Anyway, as it got busier, service improved. There was one person that really had her act together...friendly and fast. She was basically running the whole show at one point. The sushi bar and kitchen cranked everything out quickly as they got into a groove. The yelling/argument in the kitchen that was heard when we first arrived either stopped or was drowned out by the music (annoying pop tunes) and/or customer conversations. Anyway, worth a try. If you're not a sushi fan, there's still plenty to choose from. Lots of cooked food...which I saw many others ordering.

The service is slow and they put waaaaay too much rice with their sushi rolls. I have never ever seen so much rice on a sushi roll.

Our favorite sodas! The sushi was great! The service was great!! We recommend this place!!

Staff is not overly friendly and food is bland. Chicken in noodle dish was like gum. Would not pay the up charge for chicken again.

Straight dookie bro. Portions smaller than my nuts. Avoid at all costs. Would much rather eat the grease from a bottom of a trap.

Sushi seem decent quality, but was super thin. Disappointing to spend $40 on sushi and still be hungry. The miso soup was good.

It also has the best cocktails to get before heading out on Caroline St! I look forward to plenty more visits.

In a town chock full of Japanese sushi restaurants, this new entry - located in the former (and…read moremuch missed) seafood dining favorite, 30 Lake, two streets off the main shopping area downtown - Omakase is a stand out. Which is notable since it's costly. How costly you say? Well, my lunch set me back $70 which - for a cocktail, appetizer and one sushi roll - is high. Very high. The pricing cost them 1/2 a point in my review. The ambiance is more nightclub than Asian restaurant. Rather dark but not in a bad way. Modern Japanese? Maybe. Just not the 'feel' I expected on a Friday afternoon. I was warmly welcomed. I think the staff might upgrade their attire to complement their fine dining prices. Just sayin'. As previously mentioned, Omakase's prices are high. Think Upscale NYC which - as my hubs pointed out when I shared my luncheon experience with him - seems to be the direction that much of Saratoga Springs's downtown is going. For example, their Tom Yum Soup, which is offered in most Japanese restaurants, at $15.60 is twice what you would pay elsewhere locally. My Tuna Tartare was elegantly presented. It was similar to other sushi places I've been to except that the tuna was mushy instead of small pieces stop the mashed avocado. I did not find this especially appealing. What really set this dish apart from other Japanese places where I have eaten it was the crunch bits on top, the accompanying wasabi chips and sprinkling of micro greens. Nice touch but not worth $24 which is about double what I have paid at other dining establishments. A review of the menu shows that sushi prices are twice the cost of other Japanese places in town. I ordered what I will call their Signature Roll (not its real name) at $24. I tried to tie my leftovers to their menu without success. Was it good? Yes. The crunch bit on top were different. Was it worth the hefty roll price tag? Hmmm ... not sure. Service was attentive, 5 stars. If you are looking for a new take on sushi and have deep pockets, then definitely give Omakase a try. The menu has many chef reactions that you will not find elsewhere. And because I am a sushi aficionado and love creativity in dining, I will return to experience other interesting items on the menu. The chef's creative approach to sushi gets 5 stars. Keep in mind that street parking can be a challenge (as it was for the former 30 Lake). I give Omakase 4-1/2 stars.

I have never in my life had a crab rangoon that was this delicious, and the cream cheese to crab ratio in the filling was perfect. Not like many others i've had that are just cream cheese basically. My meal was chicken katsu, and it was good! The sauce that it came with complimented the chicken and went well when mixed with rice. I got a taro bubble drink, and it was good, but very very sweet.
