I use to love this restaurant but now it's bad. It's really bad! they repeatedly messed up our order, brought out an entree 15 minutes before the other entree. Hosted was rude and complacent. The First of 6 different servers we had during our short stay forgot my beer after taking the time to card me. We explained that they messed up our order, then the next "server" brought the wrong food out again. The third server got even more confused. Basically they could figure out what " we didn't get our miso soup" means. All in all a bad experience and on top of it We both got a bad stomach ache and diarrhea. I will not ever go back and I'm a local. They should hire servers who know how to serve. read more

Very good sushi restaurant, especially for a small town like Carpinteria. Service was a bit slow with a big group. There are few times I've ever reached out publicly to warn others of the terrible service I encountered. First off let me say there sushi is middle of the road good. I honestly had better off a conveyor belt sushi house. It's ok. The main sushi chef was rude and gave me sushi to anther person at the bar then tried to tell me he made it for me. how come I never got it then? Tried to explain I'm not paying for something I never got and things got even crazier. This keep in mind was over a $5 piece of fish. But also keep in mind I waited 20min thinking the next roll would be mine. Instead I got rude sushi man and dirty looks. This places food sucks and the service does too. The only reason they have business is because they are the only ones around. And just in case you don't believe me and do decide to go. Before you eat look at the "choice" meats they have on display in their glass cooler case. Shits been there a week. You'll probably die if they made you food from it. We live in Carpinteria and have been going to Sushi Teri since it opened. We had not been there in a couple years until last night. Our son. daughter-in -law and their 3 year old daughter asked to come up and go have dinner there. First thing we noticed was the table was so sticky it was uncomfortable. We tried to clean it and it just got worse. We ordered drinks, mine was the green tea. it was delivered right away and I have never seen anything quite like it. Tepid algae drek is the closest I can come to explaining it. OK so we decided not to let that spoil our dinner. We ordered a bunch of sushi and rolls. Food stars to show up and half the order is wrong. They bring us a ton of food we didn't order and what we did order is half wrong. I ordered the chirashi bowl. The salad shows up with a few lonely strands of purple cabbage drowning in some sort of brown gelatinous goo. The rest of the bowl was just sliced green cabbage. The actual bowl didn't show up until I asked about what happened to the rest of my meal. So everyone is just about finished and the bowl arrives. I start digging in and a piece of sashimi tasted less than fresh. That was enough for me. In the middle of the night I awoke to the unmistakable feeling of impending violent sickness. Welcome to Food Poisoning Central. We have all decided that until the place is cleaned up and management understands their problems that we will not return for anything. We waited 90 minutes during lunchtime for food. 4 out of 7 persons got their food after approximately 60 minutes, 2 persons got it to go because we had to left to go back to work. I have been to several Sushi Teri's in the area, and I was the least impressed with this one. We live in Carpinteria and decided to give them multiple chances, but unfortunately they have proven to be consistently mediocre. On several occasions, we experienced missed or wrong orders, warm sushi, and staff that were unfamiliar with their own menu. Food is mediocre, ambience is mediocre, staff is mediocre. There are much better places to eat in Carp, and if you need a sushi fix, head to the Sushi Teri in Santa Barbara--I give them 5 stars. read more

I'm not a sushi snob by any means, but this place is HORRIBLE! Fish was room temperature, the rolls were dry, the soy paper and ginger is fake imitation, even the hot saki was terrible (I know hot saki is cheap stuff, but this stuff was nasty). This place has terrible service. Although the manager came to our table quite quickly after we sat down to take drink orders, after that it was downhill. We had to stop a waitress and ask her to take our order. They took forever to get the food to our table and it really wasn't that good. The waitress never asked us how our food was or if we were enjoying it. We were supposed to get a complimentary ice cream dish for a birthday celebration but it took over twenty minutes to get it. After speaking to the manager, he tried to tell us the ice cream was already complimentary and he couldn't do anything else about the order. The ice cream was supposed to be complimentary for a birthday though. When we got our check, our supposed server was rude. She threw the bill at us, saying "You got 10% off but I don't know why" in a snobby voice. She then ran to the back after I asked if she would like to know why we got the 10% off. When she came back out, I informed her of why we got the 10% off and to take this as a learning experience. They first tried to blame it on the chef since it wasn't their usual chef, but it was none of his fault. It was gross. They don't have any chicken breast. It's all very fatty thighs. The beef is very thin small portion. It did not tast good. The cabbage salad was like soup, way too much dressing. The tempura was greasy. We ordered a children's meal and we got just a piece of chicken thigh, it was 25% fat. No rice, just chicken. The sesame dressing tasted really weird. We left and went to McDonald's. The service was very poor, they never refilled our drinks. We ordered waters with our meal. We couldn't drink it. I've never left a restaurant hungry. We went to this restaurant for the first time in July to treat a friend of ours to dinner --We could not find any other sushi restaurant in the area and thought this place couldn't be bad while it's located right in the middle of downtown. Was I wrong or what. Service is absolutely non-existent here and the chicken teriyaki I ordered was just a large slice of chicken thigh with teriyaki sauce on top--not even marinated and was not even sliced to pieces. By far the worst place I have ever been too!! I would've loved to give negative stars. To start off, when we first got into the restaurant we were. It greeted or asked to sit anywhere and we ended up seating ourselves. Then to make matters even worst it took them 20 minutes to realize we didn't have menus or drinks yet. The first waiter was not accurate with our order and messed our drink orders up and who knows when he put our rolls in because we didn't receive them until we had to persistently ask for them which took about 45 minutes. Soon after we put in our meal order and that came out 20 minutes later which was fine thanks to the lady who waited on us after we called for her because no one was helping us, which by the way I wish I asked for her name because she was the only helpful one and got our order and meals out at a reasonable time. Our first waiter disappeared on us literally like went M.I.A. But the overall experience was the worst ever!! The male waiters just stood around and didn't even bother coming to ask how everything was or if we needed anything, but the female waitress was by far very helpful and respectful. To sum everything up our food came an hour after we had put in our orders while people around us were eating, enjoying their meals even though we came before! At the end of our meal the first male waiter finally returned out of the nowhere and gave us the bill for which he didn't even have any business in because he left us hanging. He had our bill completely messed up because he had no idea what we ordered and was going to charge us for items we did not receive. PLAIN OUT BAD BAD BAD WORST SERVICE EVER NOT TO MENTION ITS A MONDAY NIGHT AND THE PLACE WAS NOT EVEN PACKED. The only excuse they had was that they were understaffed!! UNEXCEPTABLE!!! This is the worst restaurant in Carpinteria, second only to Ihop. I have come here because there is no other sushi restaurant and my kids used to like it as a change of scene. We walked in tonight and the place is empty. It smells like the restroom. I have been in the restaurant biz for over 20 years. I am used to seeing a certain flow and the way the staff go about their jobs is so disorganized. This place is obviously not well managed as the inexperienced staff have no training They make each staff member independent of each other so that on any given night you can have three servers come and ask to take your order. On the ticket, instead of a server's name, it just says "manager." The servers are mostly indifferent. They will bring out the food without concern for who ordered it, if the patrons have basic utensils, etc. I often order miso soup and 9 times out of 10 the server carries it in hand with their thumb on the rim. Many people sip from the rim of this kind of bowl. They usually forget to bring something ordered. One can go to Vons and get just about anything that tastes fresher. If you like frozen beef or chicken that is heated in a microwave and smothered with store bought teriyaki goop, then this place is for you! The sushi looks authentic but for me, the success of a sushi restaurant is freshness of the seafood. They use the lowest grade of fish and the color, odor and taste is not what one sees in a good sushi restaurant. The staff spend an inordinate amount of time doing side-work (consolidating soy sauce) instead of paying attention to customers. For me it is an extremely MEDIOCRE dining place. read more

We stopped here yesterday with the family on the way back from a road trip, the tempura was extremely greasy, the fried calamari was both greasy and rubbery, the water had a strange dirt smell. They messed up our order, but at least they did not try to over charge us. The server delivered the calamari right when we were finishing up. The server never asked us how things were. The grease later made both my wife and I feel sick. The rainbow roll and poke bowl were ok but I agree whole foods makes better sushi. Heck 7-11 would be in the running. I love halibut with the parmesan crust with almonds from the Specials menu. It is just a perfect combination of this crusty feeling on the inside and juicy fish on the inside. The is by far my favorite dish here. I also like charbroiled halibut. Their miso soup has a slightly different taste from what I'm used to but is also good. After reading the other reviews, I was a bit scared - but seeing as how it's the only Sushi place in Carp I knew I needed to try it anyway. Not the most awesome I've had, but not the worst either. The fish was fresh and the atmosphere was nice. We were promptly seated at the bar and the chef was pleasant. We received our beer, sake, and miso soup without delay - but he must not have heard my request for edamame as it never appeared. At least it didn't show up on the bill. We ordered a few rolls and some salmon sashimi. I found the sashimi to be unevenly cut and a bit too thick, but can't complain about the actual amount of fish I got for the price. Some pieces were a perfect bite and others were about 2-3 bites. The rolls were tightly rolled, cut evenly, and tasty enough to want to go back. I really enjoy a chef who is open to suggestion - the more time I spend there the more comfortable I will become with asking for my sashimi exactly how I want it. read more
