This particular time I ordered a couple appetizers, the Seared Albacore and Hamachi Jalapeño. Both dishes were flavorful and the fish was of high quality! We decided get some rolls as well. We were a mixed party of 8 (5 adults,2 teenagers & a kiddo) nearing closing time and with the restaurant quieting down, they cleared the large table at the front window promptly for us -even though there were other tables available.. they welcomed and took complete care of us all! food and drinks were quickly served. which we really appreciated as we were all Terribly Hungry AND THIRSTY! The service was phenomenal--the wait staff was very responsive and food was delivered promptly. The food was, well, okay. I ordered the lunch sushi special, with a spicy tuna roll and standard nigiri fare (tuna, salmon, yellow fin). It was fine, but I've certainly had much better. Tea was from powdered base (not necessarily unusual for Japanese, but not as good as fresh brewed), and water was tepid, not hot. They had a couple of signs up advertising kimchi, so I got some of that to go with my meal. It was quite good, although I suspect they didn't make it there. On a friends recommendation, I decided to give Sushi Teri a try for a girls night and after ordering a bottle of wine to share and our meal- we ended ip leaving without eating a thing. The fish smelled off and the color was wrong, our starter still hadn't come and we made the decision to cancel the rest of our order (rolls, etc) and go elsewhere. They continued to bring food even though we explicitly said the fish smelled rancid and we would not be eating. The server left the spoiled fish on the table, leaving the smell to turn our stomachs upside down. When presented with the check, we paid our entire bill over $150 for a meal that was inedible. No effort on the staff's part was made to make things right, I'm disappointed that we paid for a meal that should have been put out with the trash. read more

I was just looking at this yelp page and realized I left a review 10 years ago, but it deserves to be updated! I noticed that about five or six years ago. Sushi Teri restaurant became even better seemingly overnight! They did an interior renovation they started to have a new TV policy, and again somewhat overnight, the food got even better and higher quality. I left the old review on here because I think it's important for restaurant owners to hear honest feedback and I wanted anyone else to know that if you read the old review that things have improved remarkably. I've probably been there 40 or 50 times now and the staff is always incredibly friendly, it's family owned and run, the sushi chef is excellent and I always feel happy and fulfilled when I'm walking out the door. Definitely stop by if you're in the area and you like good sushi. ---- sushi teri The Good: Not bowled over amazed, but I have had many a fresh, tasty lunch. Today I had miso and a seaweed wakeme salad to start (they call it Ocean Salad), and Blue Fin Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail and Halibut nigiri sushi. All were very fresh and delicious. The chef was happy to include some thin sliced fresh jalapeño to my blue fin- a flavor combination to die for. My server was friendly and happy to get questions answered. The Bad: They constantly have two different TVs playing-both with volume on medium... REALLY annoying. This practice should stop immediately in my opinion. Worse than that was that both TVs were playing utterly irrelevant awful programming. one had some sports talk magazine, and the other was a reality physical game show where the people are inside some kind of massive life-size pinball machine or video game. Screaming while wiping out all over the place. If the owners of Sushi Teri are reading this review... I've been a customer at least 25 times, and as one of your loyal customers- I am extremely turned off by the televisions, the fact that they have terrible different programs on them, and worst that the volume is up. Very bad. One note is that they often serve nigiri sushi with warm rice; I believe this is because of the fact that the rice is fresh, which I don't mind too much. Might throw some people off, though. Closing thought: I recommend Sushi Teri for sushi in Carpinteria. It's good, even very good. If you adjust your expectations about a few things, you will enjoy. Please ask them to turn off the TVs if you agree with me, and maybe we can have a Sushi restaurant in Carp that is also a peaceful experience as well as a nutritious one. read more

The chirashi bowl is always our go to, it's amazing because it has a wide variety of fish, and japanese scallops which are so delicious and honestly all of the rolls are amazing. This place was barely okay. I had the spicy tuna bowl and I did not like the texture of the tuna. Even though it was spicy, I could still smell some 'fishiness' to it. It was our first time camping with friends at Carpinteria State Beach. And we stopped in not once but twice. This is a must visit the next time we are camping/ in the area. My wife have food allergies. Gluten and Dairy. They can accommodate. The first day, Trevor was our waiter and he made sure our dishes were Gluten Free and Dairy Free. The second day, Nuwan was our waiter. Both guys are great. The cabbage salad was so fresh and refreshing. The two order we had, Sashimi Dinner and Sushi Combo, came with salad, rice and soup. I really wanted this place to be good. The pork tonkatsu ramen was decent and I'd order it again but as an Asian American, the rice had better be right. The California roll was covered in soggy sticky rice. So bad, the grains weren't at all separate. It was like paste. Disgusting. The rice served with the food was sticky and unappetizing as well. The teriyaki beef was cold as a result of drowning it in the salty teriyaki sauce. I tried to wipe it off with my napkin but yeah, gross. I did like the tempura. Well its not like Southern California is without it's choices when it comes to sushi. That is unless you find yourself in the sleepy little beach community called Carpinteria. Apparently the 13,000 or so who live here between Santa Barbara and Ventura are fine with just the one, and only Sushi Teri. And why shouldn't they be? The service was top shelf as was the vibe of the place (I can always do without large flat screens where I eat, but I get it). The sushi itself is fresh and well prepared by chefs who know their craft. I ordered very simply, the Ocean (seaweed) Salad and Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and a pineapple sake. We had a fantastic experience at Sushi Teri. We are in a nice and fairly private terrace behind the restaurant. They helped us to put our bicycles in a secure spot while we dined. Their food is fresh and delicious everything was tasty and healthy both. The fish was very very fresh. Our waitress did a fantastic job fast and friendly service and they provided plastic cups with lids and chopsticks that kids can use easily for the kids. The portions were good sized and we were able to take some leftovers home. The prices were very reasonable!!!! Thanks to Sushi Teri. Highly recommended!!!! read more

Review of dinner service on 9/9/23. Our 1st time here and the food was ok. Service was friendly and fast (since we were the first customers at 5pm). Maybe it was an "off" night but the sushi rice used in their sushi was way too mushy. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and an avocado/cucumber roll and both were really mushy tasting. I can barely taste any shrimp in the tempura roll. I was definitely disappointed in the rolls. I think the hot foods that we ordered that night was better. We ordered the Korean bbq short ribs (comes with miso soup or salad) and orange (popcorn) chicken bowl (lots of chicken and cut up stir fried veggies over a huge amount of rice).
