My friend and I had a good experience here. The service was pretty prompt and efficient. The food tasted good and flavorful. My only complaint is that the sushi rolls kept falling apart. Not a very welcoming restaurant. I would understand if it was super busy and stressful, but it was an hour before closing and there were barely any customers dining in. I think if they did not want more customers they should have just closed early. We ordered the chicken katsu curry, tempura udon, and spicy tuna & avocado roll. The spicy tuna and avocado roll was not spicy at all. It was poorly put together and the avocado was brown. The chicken katsu was okay. It honestly tasted like those Japanese curry packets, which don't taste bad, but if it is going to be over twenty dollars it should at least taste house made. The udon was probably the best value. It came with a good amount of tempura, but it wasn't very crispy. I can appreciate that they were open on MLK day, but if you're going to be upset that customers walk through the door, then don't open on a holiday. There are other Japanese restaurants in town that are much nicer with better quality food. read more

The food was so delicious! I usually don't eat raw fish, but it was incredibly fresh and tasted amazing. I really enjoyed both of the rolls I ordered. The miso soup was surprisingly delicious too, and I'm not usually a big fan of miso soup! From the moment I walked in, the customer service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and consistently provided excellent service. The ambiance made the dining experience even better. The service was fantastic. Multi-generational servers who are very attentive. Everything we ordered was delicious, but not photographed. Some of the best food doesn't get a picture because it is SOOO good. Had to take my tempura home because the tofu Soba noodles were very tasty; my tummy was satisfied. Great food and great service! It's a small place but definitely not small portions! The food is so good and we loved everything we got. The owner Sarah is so kind and I couldn't have been happier with our experience. We got the chicken teriyaki with the sauce on the side that comes with a decent portion of rice and veggies, two different sushi rolls that were very filling, an order of the soft fried tofu which is so good with the sauce that's given with it, a side salad and a big iced green tea along with some Saki. I've been here twice, the first time I was in a soup mood so I ordered their Udon noodle with vegetable & shrimp tempura. There was only one shrimp tempura so that was a bit disappointing but oh my goodness the udon noodle soup was such a generous portion and so flavorful, it definitely made up for it. Their rolls were good, we ordered the Shrimp roll, California roll and Avocado roll. The food and service make this place a good choice for dinner. This is an old town Goleta staple. Fresh fish, rotating specials, and a no-frills serving style. It's a small restaurant so you might have to wait if you get there later in the evening but I think it's worth the wait if you want to enjoy the best sushi offering in the Goleta area. The Chirashi bowl has big slices of sashimi and is still a great value despite the price going up. The stand outs are the yellow tail/hamachi and the salmon. The hamachi kama was delicious and cooked perfectly. The portion was a lot and was enough to share. The only thing that could have made it better is if it was served with some lemon to squeeze on top. The fire dragon roll with salmon was great too. The spicy tuna was flavorful and not mushy, and the salmon was great quality. The rolls are large and come with eight pieces. They also have other dishes like donburi and tempura but I really think you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't order sushi, sashimi, or grilled fish. You'll generally be able to find parking around there but you might have to walk a block or two. read more

Nice family restaurant, decent food, and lovely staff. I would really love to see this place become a super authentic Japanese style spot. Cold buckwheat dipping noodles, walk in through hanging drapes, and source the freshest local fish from the markets right down the street. Cut the menu down to one page, rotating, and only the freshest ingredients. Add some nice glowing lights, do away with the bland fried roll named after the restaurant. The sushi house roll was very big, cumbersome, and had no flavor. They deserve a new fresh roll to carry the banner. If they did away with half the menu, got it down to one page of rotating fresh new things, focus on just a few items and make it amazing, enrich it with authentic Japanese vibes, and add a list of great sakes, I really think it would breathe amazing new life into this little gem. They deserve it. Overall a good experience but I will most likely go elsewhere until it gets refined and renewed. They are so close to greatness. I believe in you Goleta Sushi House. read more

Love this sushi spot! Super small for inside dining but so worth it! One of the few spots in Santa Barbara where I have had yellow tail kama and it has been perfect every time! It had been the same staff every time I have gone and they are so sweet and welcoming. I feel as though I am at a family members house eating that's how welcoming they are! We love the super fresh Yellowtail and Salmon sashimi, the best Karaage fried chicken we have experienced, the special hamachi kama (cheeks), the seaweed salad, and recommend that you ask for the Salmon Skin roll! Their Miso soup is loved by everyone we've shared a taste with. They are located in a trifecta of great small businesses in Old Town Goleta. Servers were excellent from the time I walked in and the food was even better! I ordered the chicken teriyaki platter came with a wonderfully presented spring mix salad with a strawberry garnish. A short time later I was presented with a very generous portion of mouth watering sautéed marinaded chicken cutlets with a delicious teriyaki sauce over sticky white rice. Delicious!!! Okay, this place is so good I had to come back immediately less than a week after I tried it the first time. Sushi is so good, staff are friendly and vibrant. Sushi Chef is friendly and brings laughter. Aside from the great service, the food is delicious. Even the miso soup just has a heartier and exquisite taste. The first time I had way too much because their sushi pieces are a nice proportion, didn't expect that so I ordered the dragon roll in addition to an order of Tuna, Salmon and albacore. The salmon is why I had to go back immediately . It was just as good if not better than the first time. In Santa Barbara for a business trip and the day went really long... I was ready to get back to the hotel and skipped having dinner with the rest of the crew. Ordered sushi from here since it was on the way to the hotel, the woman on the phone had a great sense of humor and was really helpful with explaining different items on the menu. I placed an order and the food was ready much sooner than anticipated , the portions were extremely generous, and it tasted absolutely delicious... I've been a long time fan of Goleta Sushi. The family run hole in the wall was a charming favorite in great part due to the older couple running it. They must have retired, because tonights experience was poor because of the brooding, cranky guy who sat in the back corner, adjacent to the cash register, sucking multiple beers and putting a cloud over the staff and diners. His BAD attitude seemed to be oppressive to the whole staff, and not worth being around. He had an ankle boot on and crutches against the wall, but it would seem like his sullen attitude was "his way", and not attributable to the ankle. His mood did change for a few seconds when he would change from a pissed off face to smile and shout "thank you" to leaving diners as they walked out. But then he would return to a surly attitude that seemed to infect the entire staff. Maybe I caught a rare moment, as he clearly had an attitude toward Vinh's daughter for coming in to the restaurant late. I don't know if he is a family member, but he claimed loudly that it was "his" restaurant. He then started complaining to other employees and acting like a junior high school bully. Really a shame. Food was good. Plentiful. Parking was a hassle (not the restaurants fault), but that guy absolutely killed the vibe. He should not be in the front. I might get take out in future. read more

I have never reviewed a single business FOUR times. But I fill compelled to add a couple of words to share that this cheerful business is going strong--very strong. Vinh and her team are sill sourcing excellent fish and ingredients (my wife has spotted Vinh at the local farmer's markets many times.) I am a frugal fellow and I have never left the GSH feeling like I didn't get more than my money's worth. We always leave full, happy, and with left overs for lunch the following day. On this most recent visit, my mother-in-law got a plate of Tempura vegetables. The crispy, not-at-all soggy, veggies were the most current reminder of the GSH chefs' skills. If you are as price sensitive as I am, or even more...but you love fresh sushi, this is the place. Final fun fact..the building that houses Goleta Sushi used to be the Goleta Court House. When I drove to this place - I initially had second thoughts: the neighborhood had some tricky reverse in parking and the restaurant was totally empty. I sat at the bar and ordered salmon nigiri and a specialty raw roll and a cup of miso. The fish was outstanding - I'm an avid sushi eater and I think this was amongst the best fish I've ever had - specifically the salmon. The rolls were a bit pricey but overall worth it. The ambiance could be improved especially the bright overhead lighting and the lack of noise but the food made up for it! read more

The lady working that night was a little tired most likely, so it was a little slower than usual, and she was ignoring us a bit. The dipping sauce they came with, especially, was SO good and spicy and flavorful. The Snake Roll had some spines still in the eel, which does occasionally happen when ordering unagi, but which made for an unpleasant eating experience. The other two rolls were absolutely delightful. The Sushi House Roll was our favorite, with a great mix of flavors and textures encapsulated in a fried rice "crust." And the Spider Roll was also just a solid one to get; loved the sauce. Was craving a quick order of sushi Togo. I placed an order and picked it up 10 mins later. The lady/ owner was very nice and friendly when I came in to pick up my order. Just from her presence alone, I would want to come back and dine in. The place is not a fancy place. It's definitely more casual and laid back. There's nothing too appealing but it was very clean and bright when I came in. The sushi looks really good and there was a couple parties dining in when I came to pick up my order. I got the pizza roll. It's basically a baked scallop roll with sauce on top. The scallop pieces are huge and the whole roll is really dense and filling. It really is good and hits the spot.
