It has everything you'd want from a neighborhood favorite--friendly staff, consistently fresh fish, and prices that don't break the bank (a rare combo these days!). This used to be a late night sushi house that we would go to after the "club". Now, it is our go-to family spot for early evening dinner. We like to sit at the bar or small tables in the front and enjoy appetizers that include calamari or tempura. It's not on the main tourist routes and parking can be a little difficult but this unpretentious little restaurant features some wonderful Japanese food. In addition to some great sushi, tempura, etc, they have some chef specialties. Nice teriyaki dishes too. And, most importantly, pleasant, hard working staff in the kitchen, certainly, but there is a friendly, personal vibe to their kind and efficient service. 10/10 would recommend! Yoko was the best. We ordered the Tuna Carpaccio, Salmon Bowl, Teriyaki Bowl, crunch roll and the calamari. The service was great. Yoko gave us Enough time to decide what we wanted, without pressuring us. You will need 10-15 minutes to decide with the extensive menu. Interior was like any traditional Japanese cuisine, very quaint and on a busy street. Parking was easy since we go there later in the evening. We would go back just to be helped by Yoko, she was the absolute sweetest lady. Food was great, staff was helpful and we walked out more than satisfied. This is a small home style restaurant that serves a variety of Japanese food. From curry katsu to sashimi. I loved that there was an adorable elderly Japanese couple who seemed to be the owners manage the restaurant. Service was very good and everyone seemed very friendly. We ordered the curry pork katsu (large), beef curry udon, beef curry with rice (reg size) the salmon fest, and salmon hamachi bowl. Everything was delicious and the fish was fresh. Good size portions. Our 3 entrees came with miso soup. And the salmon hamachi bowl came with a mango mochi ice cream, My son missed eating authentic simple Japanese food and that's what he got. After a big day I set out, at the recommendation of a local friend, to where, he said, the sushi chefs go when they go out for sushi. The place is pretty unassuming from the outside, and sensibly furnished inside. I went at 8:30 on a Thursday night and it was pretty full. Even with the bustle, the service was swift and efficient and, very importantly, it did not smell like fish. I sat down at the bar and one of the sushi chefs greeted me and gave me a menu. There's not the many pages of rolls you'd find in other places, just one page and then the sashimi, and hot dishes. I ordered the fresh Uni my friend recommended and, OMG, it was the most fresh and delicious I have ever eaten. The cool, pink pouches exploded with flavor in my mouth, wow! I also ordered the Salmon Feast, with Sashimi, Sushi, and a Salmon Avocado roll. The Salmon was fresh and delicious, and each iteration was well crafted and so flavorful. I may come back to Santa Barbara just to come back here! read more

I found Edomasa on Google and instantly fell in love with this place when I visited here for dinner. I ordered a chirashi bowl, a 16 ounce Sapporo beer, fried oyster, and a dinner special (not shown in the picture). Everything was extremely good and tasty, particularly impressed with freshness of ingredients and authenticity of tastes. It was pretty busy when I got there, so the service was a little slow but it wasn't too bad. It's cozy inside and the owners were super nice and kind. The fish tasted so fresh! And they were not skimpy. The raw fish slices were thick and delicious. I really loved the salmon. The egg cakes were not how I thought they would taste, they are very sweet and very delicious! They used a lot of rice to plate the fish which was kind of too much. How the rendered fish fat at the end curls with the skin. Then when peeled, it's so translucent and filled with Unami. Taiko drums were beating in my mouth like the summer festivals in Tokyo. There's no question where to go when it comes to late night and sushi in Santa Barbara. Walking in from a cold night made the choice for a hot serving of green tea the right choice. There is something special about the green tea served here. The first sip as thick and rich as can be will hit you with a warm, soothing and refreshing flavor. We decided to get a random selection of appetizers and entries and pretty much all were great. Appetizer-wise, the edamame was crispy with the right of amount of salt, the surprisingly amazing enoki mushrooms were to die for with its buttery flavors and then the Anton's Special of garlic and soy sauce seasoned beef was exactly what the doctor ordered. The Deluxe Sashimi and Rainbow Roll was pretty good too. You'll definitely get your fill and money's worth with both. When in Santa Barbara be sure to stop by Edomasa. I know this is Yelp, but I do want to shoutout DoorDash on here to say that I think it's great they offered 30% off for pickup instead of getting delivered. However, I had a little trouble picking it up because they didn't understand my name and that yes I was picking up but I was ordering through DoorDash--no I was not a dasher. Pretty happy about our experience at Edomasa! Me and my SO will order A LOT of sushi. Like an amount where sushi masters will check the order twice and then check that there are only 2 people, ha! The service here was great! Seems like the owners were there (an older lady and older man) and they were so friendly and attentive to us. The sushi was average-sushi price and the quality is good. Our rolls came out in a good time while the restaurant was busy and we liked everything we ordered. What stood out to us was the Baltimore roll. We absolutely love cream cheese and this roll had Crab Meat Tempura, Cream Cheese, Cucumber, Avocado with Spicy Sauce. We stayed at the AutoCamp across the street and decided to get our dinner to go with it being our last night. Very friendly service and the meal was actually very delicious. I ordered the mackerel (Saba)dinner which actually came with two big servings of fish and plenty of rice. Also with delicious miso tofu seaweed soup and the sunomono side (pickled cucumber and seaweed). The one fish was more than enough portion wise so have one Saba still left to eat. Husband ordered the shrimp tempura dinner which came with four shrimp tempura, 4 tempura scallops and four tempura fish! A lot of tempura which also came with the miso and sunomono side. It doesn't look like much from outside but you will be pleasantly surprised once you enter - you will be greeted by friendly staff behind the sushi bar counter. Disgusting! I had The Deluxe Buffalo Volcano and it had no flavor. It reminded me of flavorless mayonnaise mush. The Santa Barbara roll was equally dissatisfying.
