And sashimi costs about $14 a serving, yet there are only two pieces per fish. The ramen was even weirder. I ordered the pork-flavored version, but the soup base was made with fish and lots of seaweed. So the only thing that has anything to do with pork in this bowl of noodles are the two pig shoulder on top. read more

The best! I love the people too! Yuko is a true angel. I have been coming here for over 4 years. This food is seriously divine. I swear it gets better every time. Love you Edomasa! Good sushi at reasonable prices, with great customer service, what is there not to like? I've been coming here since I moved to SB back in the day and have continued to do so ever since. They are my "go to" when undecided on sushi houses in SB, and definitely a great late night spot for food in general. I've ordered a lot off the menu, and can tell you there hasn't been a dish that I didnt like. From ramen, to teriyaki chicken, to sushi and sashimi, you name it, I've had it, and it was gooood here. I came by last night with my SO, and ordered the sashimi assortment plate and an extra sashimi plate of salmon. The sashimi assortment had fresh cuts of octopus, salmon, yellowtail, ahi, scallops and daikon The sashimi tasted fresh and was worth the price we paid. Top it all off with great customer service, plus they take axxess SB card (10% off) Are there other sushi houses in town that have great sushi? I meant to add this review a week ago so I apologize for the lateness! This was one of the few sushi places that I found to be open late on a weekday and that was a major plus! I went ahead and ordered 20 of the Edomasa rolls, which usually will get me pretty full if I'm hungry. These rolls are BIG. Five rolls actually filled me up and I had leftovers! Sushi was really good and the pick-up was fast and on time! I find many sushi places in Santa Barbara give really small portions, which does give you the freedom to try more rolls at once, but when you have a favorite, I like to have big portions. The salad was pretty tasty--I liked the dressing on it (not sure what it was though). I had the Ladies' Set (I kinda take issue with the name but oh well), which includes 3 choices of handrolls. They were good, but not the best I'd ever had. All the sushi combinations come with mochi as dessert, which they forgot to give us until we reminded them. But that isn't a big deal. My bf and I are take out masters. We go all out and order family style...for two. We just moved into the area and decided to splurge on some late night Japanese food. This place is open til midnight so that's convenient! We got: - Sushi Deluxe (assortment of nigiri and your choice of spicy tuna or California roll) - shrimp and veggie tempura appetizer - ginger beef entree Sushi deluxe did come with a lot of stuff. 8 nigiri pieces and a roll. Not rice heavy like some other cheaper Japanese places and included uni and unagi, my faves! Tempura was overly fried and the batter didn't taste like tempura. It tasted more like fish and chips batter. I probably wouldn't get this again. Ginger beef entree was oily and soggy and pretty much whole thing was bean sprouts. Also wouldn't eat again. But the entree came with some pickled cucumbers, miso soup, and rice. It would have came with mochi ice cream too if you eat at the restaurant. This place currently has an average review of 3.5 stars, and based on the Nabeyaki Udon I got as takeout, I would say that is accurate. The broth was really good, but not all of the other ingredients were good. Notable items that reduced the quality of the dish: a chicken bone shard, some overly-tough lotus root and/or bamboo chunks, and a slightly unpleasant-tasting (overcooked?) egg. This place is pretty good! When we got there, they were pretty busy so we sat at the bar. The sushi chef who helped us out made our food super fast. We ordered the sushi and sashimi combo, tempura udon, green salad, and agedashi tofu. The sushi and sashimi combo comes with nigiri, sashimi, California or spicy tuna roll, miso soup, and mochi!!! The chef for some reason kept thinking we wanted spicy tuna roll instead of California but he eventually got it right. The California roll was really big, like each individual roll had a large radius and the avocado was like a legit entire slice of avocado. Sashimi and nigiri were also pretty good! The chef, who didn't speak Japanese, didn't know what agedashi tofu was so one of the Japanese chefs had to tell him what it was. The agedashi tofu was really good! It's one of my mom's favorite dishes and she loved it. The tempura udon was really good as well! They give you two shrimp tempura when most places give you one. The green salad was DRENCHED in dressing. So if you get it tell them less dressing. Like a lot less. The servers are all pretty nice and attentive and fast. Three words: Late Night Sushi. Edomasa is one of only a very few restaurants in Santa Barbara open past 10pm. Sometimes, you're just craving some sushi late at night! Look no further than this spot. The restaurant is located within the Samarkand neighborhood and is fairly close to the Las Positas freeway entrance. It's on a busy road and parking is accessible through a condominium complex directly behind on Alamar Avenue. The place is nothing fancy on the inside, but is clean and the service has always been friendly. Their sushi rolls are well-made and taste great. They make this large sushi platter that comes in a literal wooden boat, pretty cool to view its overall artistry. Their rolls are an ideal pairing with a sake or a Sapporo. Great place overall. I've been wanting to find a sushi place where the price, quality, and service is consistent. Edomasa was my first stop in an extensive journey to find the most satisfying sushi in the area. To add the cherry on top, Edomasa is open late night, which my SO and I appreciate since we always work late. From the seating to the end, their customer service took great care of us. I never felt like I was impatiently waiting to have my order taken or waiting for the check. Even our order had come out in a short period of time after placing it. I've tried so many different sushi places in SB and they're all either way too expensive for the value or they are just bad. Edomasa hits the right medium of price and quality that it'll be my go to place now in SB. I got the deluxe sushi set with the edomasa roll for $32.50. The nigiri are actually real nigiri; the size, mold, fish, and rice are all how they're supposed to be. The fish taste clean and have their individual flavors. I was surprised at the quality of the uni given the overall price and other sushi items in the set. It was really good uni and could have easily ballooned the cost of the set. I also usually don't like imitation crab rolls, but the edomasa roll with the shrimp and sauce was very good! It's also huge to help to fill you up. This place was great. It was not a cheap meal at $50+ and it wasn't 100% authentic, but the food was definitely unique and hit the spot. Salad had plenty of fish and was very filling for $15. It was $7.50 for the 3 rolls of spicy tuna rolls with sticky rice, which was a bit steep. Service was prompt and good, no complaints. It is an older run down building and there is only one stall for each bathroom, which is hard to get in and out of since it's so narrow. Arrived at about 10 pm for take out. Quiet, clean, and good service. Parked right out front street parking. Bf and I ordered one of the sushi combos that was about (about 14.95) for cucumber roll, California roll, & spicy tuna roll. Also ordered a lobster cut roll (about $9) and the crunchy roll ($12.95). I think the sushi was a bit overpriced for the quality. I liked the crunchy roll and that was about it. It was prepared very quickly we didn't wait more than 15 min and the restaurant wasn't very busy. Well rolled sushi didn't fall apart tightly and generously packed. I don't think I'd return as the selection was very minimal the specialty rolls were very similar and prices range (7-15) I wasn't a fan of the lobster roll it had a tart taste. The regular rolls are made perfectly and the fish is so fresh (it must be a santa barbara thing) I cannot get over the yellowtail here, its so flavorful! The most recent time i came in, they were a bit busy/backed up, we didnt mind since we were talking and catching up with a friend- our waitress was so grateful for our patience and understanding that she gave us a free little mochi for dessert. What's also great is that Edomasa is open late! Their happy hour starts at like 8 or 9p! Parking can be a bit tough, it's only street parking but its nothing horrible. read more
