Where to begin. This establishment is all around AMAZING!!! All the staff are friendly, outgoing,…read moreattentive, and really know their craft. I thought I had pre-booked a reservation, and we were running late. Parking in this area can be a trick. I dropped my wife off and continued to locate parking. She contacted me and said there was no reservation. I panicked as I parked my truck and sifted through my emails for a confirmation. I hustled the 0.4 miles back to her. When I went in the hostess said it wouldn't be a problem and brought us to a table. My wife later told me she was offered tea while she waited. The waiter was on spot. He knew their menu and provided us with his insights. All the food was Devine. Beautifully laid out and brought out each course in the perfect time. My wife loved the hibachi, she doesn't eat much in general and I do most of the cooking at home. She couldn't get enough of putting items in the hibachi and moving them around. Guess I need a hibachi at home lol. Also my wife is 86 pounds, so she gets cold easy. The hibachi was the perfect personal heater too!! We had a great time together. The ambiance had that perfect Japanese appeal, while still modern. I used to live in Japan so I can be skeptical when it comes to Japanese flair & food. This establishment did not disappoint. So if you are in Montreal, I highly recommend giving this place a go. Side note, pricing is very reasonable considering what is included in packages. And the Saki I had was delicious and looking it up for the going rate they make around $5 per bottle based on what they sell it for and market retail price (place around the corner up charges 110%). So you are more than getting what you pay for in my opinion. And sometimes you just cannot put a price on excellent service! We will definitely be returning when we venture. To Montreal again.

The spring rolls taste like the frozen veggie ones from Asian supermarkets. The salad and rice were also nothing special. However, the for value it's not bad. We got the premium set for 2, which was $120 (tax & tip included). For anyone that's not a big eater, it's a good alternative to gyubee. Service was very attentive although the kitchen was quite slow. Our appetizers came 1 hour after our meats arrived, which was a bit strange. Ambiance is a bit cold since the tables are so close to the doors, so we constantly felt a gust of cold air during our visit.

You can also order to go here I believe. They really operate efficiently, expect fast service! Tables are tightly situated and there's a cozy bar situation where I sat this time, able to watch the chefs cook right in front of me. The daily specials are posted on their Instagram page, as well as written on pieces of paper around the restaurant. My server quickly helped me to water and a glass of sake. I placed a to go order for one of the daily specials, the grilled sea bass with sushi rice and salad, with some kimchi. I also ordered the BBQ chicken with tortilla and salad, as well as vegetable gyoza. Everything was incredible. Truly. The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it. I hope to eat here often, for years to come and am so happy to see this iconic Japanese restaurant still thriving years later.

Once seated, things happen very quickly...it is go, go, go (in the best possible way.) We ordered appetizers first, the tempura green beans with a delicious truffle mayo, gyoza and the tofu salad (they make it fresh every Sunday). Green beans were everyone's fave, but I have to mention the (pickled?) vegetables on the salad. So flavourful! Also tried the egg drop soup which is so tasty. Mains were the salmon tuna bowl, the beef short ribs, the shrimp burger, and 48 hour pork with curry sauce. Everything was wonderful! Finished with their soft serve ice cream, I had the cherry blossom but one of us had the sake, which is a shot of sake poured on top. Amazing! You can even have wasabi or ginger... I'll try that next time (and there will be a next time soon!)

BEST NEW RESTAURANT IN MONTREAL…read more The restaurant has two menu, Omakase and a la carte. Omakase is 14 services, chef's choice and the menu will change periodically... We tried the Omakase menu and let me tell you, it was a wild ride. The menu alternates between nigiris and small creations, generally japanese but some dishes are clearly french, some are a fusion. The progression alternates between japanese subtle flavours and bold french tastes. The contrasts somehow harmonizes very well. Special mentions: Tartare: fresh, tangy, salty and crispy, a masterclass of contrating textures and tastes. Suzuki: had some yuzu in it, somehow the yuzu flavour blew up as you eat it and lingered the whole time, very nice contrast. Wagyu: amazing brioche, balsamic reduction, soft melting wagyu and crispy garlic, wow, perfect combination. Monaka: a thin wafer filled rice at the bottom topped with tuna tartare, pickled daikon, garnished with egg yolk gel and wasabi. Something absolutely new for me delicious, and so original. Chutoro: my favorite nigiri of the night, it had a thin slice of pickled daicon on top of the fish, brushed with soy sauce. Umami bomb with some sour notes, wow. This was a very simple twist but it was most impactful to me. Sweet shrimp: sweet, soft and topped with crunchy bit (garlic I think) again nice contrast of textures. Mazemen: a brothless ramen infused with Shrimp flavour, inside out and all over. If you love shrimp this one will please you, this one was almost my favorite dish of the night, it was so close... TOMATO: More than meets the eye. Tomato sorbet topped with tomato foam and garnished with tomato dust. Sweet tomato, savory tomato, with tomato umami dust. All tomato, nothing but tomato. I recommend eating this each component separately, then two at time in different combinations, then all three. each combination will evoke a different taste sensation. Sometimes it tasted like pasta sauce, then ketchup then tomato soup, etc... this dish will bring to bear a lot of the tomato flavours in your memory. And yet it is none of those things, it's just magic! It's creative, simple and bold and nuanced. BEST DISH OF THE NIGHT. I can't wait to go back when they change the menu :)
