We had a pretty good experience recently at this Sushi King! I didn't realize this location was here -- used to be a terrible Italian place back in the day. Parking is a bit of a tricky situation, but if you park over at Barnes and Noble or JC Penny, you can walk over pretty easily. I came with my youngest, and he's a dumpling FIEND. Been known to destroy at least four plates of dumplings in a sitting, so it's totally worth the AYCE approach. I usually don't get my money's worth in these types of spots because they often won't let you take any additional leftovers home. So I've become pretty careful about my orders. What this place had going for it -- the portions were MUCH larger than I expected from my prior experiences at AYCE places. The sushi roll I expected maybe 4-6 smallish pieces, and I got 8 pretty large pieces. The nigiri was okay - not the best quality fish, but it was edible and fresh. The round of appetizers we got was hit or miss -- the tempura was DELICIOUS. The wontons were eh. And the dumplings were okay -- my only beef with that was...the beef! There are no pork dumplings on the menu, which is weird since gyoza is traditionally pork based. The beef ones were okay though - both steamed and fried (we tried both). In all, we got out of there with about a $50 tab for one adult and one kid -- and the waitress was kind enough to let us take some of the food home since I was surprised by the sizes of the servings. Visited this sushi king because I was in Hampton and I can say it does aesthetically look better than the one in Newport News. The sushi was significantly bigger and the service was great. I had the pleasure of having DJ and I would always request him as my server if I could. read more

My boyfriend was excited to take me here for dinner because I have never been. I must say, I have never met such a cold hostess in my life, Destiny. She saw us waiting for a hostess as she walked past. Did not say hi. She appeared to be completely miserable. We all have bad days but dang. She made me not want revisit because when we were seated, she took our drink order and said ok... I ordered a mix drink. She neglected to inform us that they did not serve liquor, I found that to be extremely rude. Nor did she offer a drink menu or come back to tell us the drink I ordered would never be served. Dinner was not busy for a Saturday evening. The decor is modern and the place was clean. It was disappointing that the salad bar was not open nor the ice cream machine. Unfortunately, it seems that their prices have gone up $5 but offer less. Regardless, the food we ordered came out hot and fresh and we have no complaints on any of that. Our server was being trained and doing excellent. Both of them were very nice and attentive. I would like to try the one in Newport News. read more

I prefer this location than other Sushi King. They have rolls that some of the other sushi kings don't have. They are always clean and service is always great. I usually order the Spicy girl roll, hibachi chicken,steak and shrimp...no rice, crab ragoon, and clear soup. The food usually comes out quick and served hot. I have eaten here three times in the last month or so...so I will say I eat here pretty often. read more

Their food quality has gone down a lot since I was here last, 3 years ago. It was nothing special. Their miso soup was very salty. I went to the bathroom and was glad I was done eating. It was just down right disgusting. Using a floor lamp for lighting. There's a FULL bucket under the sink. Just not clean at all. The rest of the restaurant wasn't very clean either. I used to love coming here. Maybe a 4 or 5 star at one point. They got rid of the buffet self serve bar. The food takes forever to come out, the servers are never around so you can order more. The portions arent what they used to be. I rank my decisions to eat somewhere again as: 1 star - if someone else buys it I won't eat it, I would rather go hungry. 2 star - if I'm hungry, no other options are open and someone buys it - I would consider eating it 3 star - I'm ok with eating it as long as someone else pays 4 star - I will eat again and pay for it and be a semi-regular customer 5 star - I will travel for good food and pay good money and be back on a regular basis and maybe even pay for yours just so we can go Based off staff friendliness, selection, value, quick service & taste. I took my fiancé and a party of 7 here on Friday 2/16. My fiancé and I always come to this establishment and have never had a problem. Our server, Cam most definitely should not serve a party because it seemed too much for her. She constantly would forget our orders and would blame the kitchen. We were very kind a patient with her because it was a busy night and she did seem very overwhelmed but paying 24.00$ per person, and added gratuity to barely and I mean barely eat is absolutely ridiculous. We were practically begging for our food by the end of the night. I called to speak with the manager, whom I spoke with by the name of Jeremy. He did not resolve our problem at all and seemed not interested in our problem at all. I could have payed my 90$ somewhere else and left with a full stomach we won't be back! read more

I walked into the restroom when I first got there and it was disgusting. The floor was sticky, toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor, and the toilet paper rolls were sitting on top of the holder or on the floor. There was also a big unlabeled bottle of soap on the counter with soap spread all across it. The service was decent, the guy seemed nice. But we weren't given chopsticks or napkins. This Sushi King is in horrible condition. The women's restroom is absolutely disgusting. The last stall has an obvious leak with water running out in to the floor of the restroom with a slip and fall sign. This is not acceptable as toilet water is all over the floor. The wall of the first stall had something unbeknownst to me, all over it. Looks like human waste. Toilet paper was not in the toilet paper holders, just exposed to the elements which is very unsanitary. The roll looked wet as well. The paper towel holder didn't have paper in it either. It was sat in the disgusting looking sink with water all over it. When I left the restroom I asked the staff at the front desk to please attend to the restroom, 2 of the women looked at me like I was crazy. The 3rd lady smiled and said she would take care of it. ​ The carpets in the restaurant is sticky and filthy. The tables were sticky as well. I think the health department t needs to make a visit to this restaurant. I give this place a 1/10 for cleanliness. The food was not as good either. My volcano rolls were supposed to be made with crab meat according to the menu, instead it had fish in it. I was in total disbelief. Overall, Total disappointment. My daughter's food had hair in it. To call this sushi, is an insult to sushi. This is Asian buffet quality raw fish with rice, with less selection and double the price. There's an asian buffet down the street that I'm sure makes the same quality foods. The shrimp shumai dumpling were ok, they needed a little more flavor but the sauce helped. The volcano roll was amazing to me and would definitely get it again. The service was awful. Several times we had to get up and find our waitress. We had to find our own chopsticks and silverware. The waitress seemed oblivious to this. The sushi is mediocre and full of milk products like cream cheese- which should come with a warning if you are eating sushi because you are lactose intolerant. This is a wonderful place to go with a large party. I came here for a lunch gathering with a party of 35. The servers were very attentive with such a large group. I was very surprised at how quickly they brought out our food. They had a very efficient process and service. The food was delicious and value was great. I highly recommend trying sushi king. This is my favorite lunch spot by far. All you can eat hibachi and dumplings are my favorites. Oddly enough I do not eat seafood yet I love "sushi" king. I like to come at lunch time and have the chicken hibachi and the zucchini is the best. The dumplings on the appetizer menu are absolutely amazing. Another thing I like about Sushi King would have to be the salad, fruit, sweets & frozen yogurt bar. Yes!! All that !! From oranges, grapes, salad with optional ginger dressing, cakes, and puddings. I have NEVER in my life witnessed such unprofessionalism. I came with my family and witnessed a manager screaming at his employee?! my children gasped at every curse word that flew out his mouth!!! How ridiculous and disgusting is that. That poor waiter looked like he wanted to cry but I applaud him for still doing his job! Can't say the same thing for that manager!! I overheard him trying to force the waiter to pay for people who left. Last time I checked this is ILLEGAL. I would know considering I'm an employment lawyer. If I could give 0 stars I would. We will never again visit the Sushi King in Hampton. Jake had a Daddy Day with the boys today. They spent the morning jumping at Sky Zone and then the boys wanted to have lunch at Sushi King. Well, it did not happen because they refused to serve the kids. Jake wasn't going to eat, however, he was getting the kids lunch. They flat out refused to only serve the kids. Jake looked up their website and it doesn't say anywhere that you have to get an adult meal in order to get a kids meal. He asked if they had that printed anywhere, they did not. They had no policies stating you had to have a paying adult in order to serve children. He talked to the owner and the owner straight up said "sue me". In what setting does it make sense to refuse to serve children? Especially when there is a specific price set for them. They weren't free. He wasn't trying to just get free food, he fully intended to pay the child's price for each boy but the restaurant told him he had to pay for an adult meal in order to serve the boys. They wouldn't even let Jake order a drink without first charging him for a full meal. That's like Chick-fil-a saying you have to order an adult meal to then order a kid's meal. How does that make sense? I get that some restaurants have specials and some maybe even have those policies but they are written and known and the fact that the owner straight up said "sue me" is a disgusting way to treat a firefighter and his family on his day off. read more

I'm not a Sushi King first timer, and I love a bit of AYCE sushi - but sadly, this S.K location was a big let down. Me and my husband ordered at the same time. All of my plates came within 5-10 minutes, my husband waited 30 minutes and only one serving of crab Rangoon turned up out of all the things he ordered. It was a lot too. Within this time, he checked his order again with two different servers, and still waited - until everything came all at once when we were about ready to leave still hungry... Not cool, especially when you have to pay for unfinished plates. We also waited almost an hour to have our water topped up, at this point, we were done and asked for the bill. I didn't even care to use my Yelp check in coupon, so unimpressed I just wanted to leave. For 18.99 a person, with hardly any food due to all our waiting, no water, that's not the type of service I expected. With that said, the food that we actually did finally get, tasted fantastic. Our server was pleasant, but was barely there - she apologized to us and her other tables half way through our wait and said that she wasn't feeling well... not what you really want to hear being served food. I was thoroughly impressed by this Sushi King. It's a huge facility, far bigger than the Sushi Kings in the Richmond area or the one in Charlottesville, and located right in the heart of downtown Hampton. The menu had several options not usually found in other Sushi Kings, including Chicken Katsu, BBQ Squid, several rarer fishes for the sushi, and others that I enjoyed greatly. Despite being a large restaurant it was impeccably clean and the service was efficient, individualized, and friendly. The fish was fresh-tasting and in good portions. The only negative was the beer was quite expensive - normally I'm used to Sushi King having beers for just a few bucks but this location charged bar-level prices. The meal prices were in-line with other Sushi Kings even with all the bells and whistles this place has in addition. It was undoubtedly the best Sushi King I've been to so far although I can't, as of this review, say much about the other Sushi Kings in the Virginia Beach area and only can compare it to the ones in the Richmond area and in Charlottesville (which themselves are quite good already). read more
