    8/28/25 FYI.

My daughter took the SF Ferry to visit me. So I saved this restaurant for us to come together for Happy Hour. Quality/Quantity - It has been too long since we have been back, and I am so glad we came. And I have been "dry" for a week, so it was nice to come here for Happy Hour. We almost ordered one of each sushi roll off of the HH menu. Hamachi Jalapeno Roll - Changed to make it into a roll for $2.50 more. My favorite of all the rolls. California Roll - Good, but it could have been rolled tighter. Decent quantity, especially for HH. Avocado Roll - Generous avocado and perfectly ripe, creamy, buttery, etc. Spicy Tuna Roll - Good. Spicy Salmon Roll - This was more spicy than the spicy tuna roll IMO. Probably my second favorite roll. Shrimp Tempura Roll - Again, good. And of course, the HH Asahi Draft beer. Not sure if that came in a 12 oz or a pint? But it did come in an ice cold frosted mug, thank you! Overall the food was 5 stars! And I am so glad we are back in this neighborhood. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. Limited indoor seating. Not sure if the outdoor seating is theirs or the tap room next door...? Plenty of free street parking. Open 5 days a week for dinner; 4:30 pm to 9 pm; closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Service - Good, both the lady and owner took care of us. My only suggestion is that it would have been nice to have been informed me it was going to be $2.50 extra to change the Happy Hour Hamachi Jalapeno Hand Roll to a maki roll. I probably would have still said yes. Price - $70 + tip. Very reasonably priced. And as all 3 of us are light eaters, we actually could have had one less roll; so dinner would have/should have only come out to $60, which is inexpensive for Japanese and really inexpensive for SF dining. But you know that because you are following my daily dining, lol. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2004. We have been customers since then. Well, we have not been back in a long time, but I hope to change that soon.

Nice place, there was good seating. No line on a Saturday night. Came out pretty quick. Sushi was good.

The food, service, and ambiance were all immaculate. My group had to make it to a concert after this, so our server said, "Say no more." and got our food out within minutes. And our rolls were exquisite. It was also very nice to have so many veggie options! Definitely coming back here again whenever I come back to the city.

I love this place! I came to this place every year for the last 7 years and it never disappoints. The owner of this place is so sweet and accommodating and they are very caring about all their customers! The fish here is the star, it's so fresh and the cut of the fishes are good size. The sushi rolls, especially the African spider roll and the caterpillar are my favorite. Definitely worth it. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating but come early since it place do get pretty crowded!

Happy to have this spot on Balboa! We got the Notorious V.E.G. and the veggie vixen, along with a seared sablefish nigiri special. It was all delicious! Service was friendly, prompt, and on top of it. We sat outside on a nice day. They even have some pull-down sheets to keep out the wind.

It was our first time trying this place after one whole year of living in this area, what a shame!! This place is so good! The owner is super nice and friendly. The service is great! The staffs are very attentive and always refill water and wasabi for us without having to ask. We love it here and we will come back for more! My most favorite dish is Presidio roll! The ambience is great We will come back and try more dishes for sure!! :)

Sushi Bistro quickly became a family favorite. It was referred to us by a friend and at first taste of the food, the quality stood out. We were seated right away and greeted with smiles by the owner, David and his staff. We were given some delicious pickled cucumbers to start. My 7 year old daughter loves Tuna sashimi/nigiri and once she got a taste of one, she wanted to order a couple more. My wife got the tempura udon which was soothing for a cold night yet the portion was very generous. I opted for various nigiris and the African spider. All stand out dishes. I loved the nigiris so much I've ordered the nigiri 10 piece omakase since so I get to taste various cuts and offerings. We have gone there to celebrate big milestone/celebrations since our first visit and will continue to be patrons.

My experience with their Omakase was really good. Sashimi were very fresh. Current price as of December 1, 2022 is $47 for 10 pieces. Service was super. You better make reservation. But the bar table seems not busy when we were there a few days ago.

I feel SO fortunate to live close to Sushi Bistro. It is an intimate space with only a handful of tables and a small staff. Both times we have been in, the quality, portion size, and preparation of everything we ordered has been phenomenal. The fish is always fresh and flavorful and the rolls are very thoughtfully crafted with ingredients that compliment the fish well. Be sure to ask about the specials, as their fish selection is always changing with the seasons and availability. The accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly staff really is the cherry on top to this already fabulous restaurant. Can't wait to come back!

On a whim I decided to try this place and I'm so glad! The service is impeccable, very informative and quick. They had the Laker game on which is expected, but the TV is off to the side which I appreciate so the ambiance was chill with good music and good vibes. As soon as my party of 3 were seated we were served water and cucumber salad which they should bottle and sell in bulk. It's so tasty! We tried the chicken karage appetizer, seaweed salad, side salad which was delicious and a huge portion along with a few rolls and some mochi for dessert. All of the fish was fresh and delicious but I was especially impressed by the spicy tuna and the eel. I will definitely be back!

Awesome. Owner is so nice. Great fish. Great ambiance. Incredible food. Can't wait to go back.

What we ordered: + San Ten Mori (assorted sashimi) [4/5]: The highlight of our meal was the yuzu wasabi that came with the salmon + amberjack in this set. It was sooo delicious and spicy. The fish were plated beautifully, and the quality was pretty good. + Shungiku Kama Sarada (chrysanthemum greens & duck breast) [6/5 - would recommend]: WOW. I was so pleasantly surprised by how fresh, crunchy, and acidic this salad was. The greens are amazing. On top of that, the duck breast was so tender and delicious-- I just wish the dish came with a few more slices. + Chicken Oyster [4/5]: I really loved how juicy this was. I normally don't like chicken because of how dry it is, but this was a great skewer. I wish the skin was a little less burnt. The chicken was also so thick that while the outside was juicy, the inside was a little drier. + King Trumpet [4/5]: Wow! These looked amazing when they arrived. I thought the flavor was great but the texture was a bit rubbery. + Kama Tama Udon (carbonara) [4.5/5]: Delicious! I couldn't stop eating this udon slathered in amazing thick sauce. + Chiizu Tori Katsu [4/5]: This was sooo good. I wish the cheese ratio was 3x as much, but the flavor and tenderness of the katsu is delicious. Huge props to Rintaro; my Resy reservation was initially cancelled due to an accident in booking, but the staff was so friendly and went above & beyond to help me get my reservation reinstated at a similar time.

The smells are incredible from smokey fish as they sear the final touches with a blow torch, to the sizzling goodness from the yakitori grill. It's such a fun place, and the freshness (especially the fish flown in from Japan) is unbelievable. The service was pretty good. Our waiter was a bit forgetful, but it could be because he had a packed bar of guests. We had an incredible experience, and will be back again!

We opted for the AYCE menu, which came out to around $50 per person. - Sashimi -- pieces were on the smaller side and a little watery - Sashimi Salad -- fresh spring greens topped with larger sashimi cuts; a refreshing starter - Gyoza -- larger than typical gyoza, almost like mandu; crispy exterior with juicy filling - Poke Chip -- avocado could've been fresher, but still a nice crisp and creamy combo - Lion King Roll -- my favorite item of the night; seared salmon, avocado, and imitation crab. Wish it had a bit more torching and cheese, but still delicious - Rainbow Roll -- smaller-sized roll topped with salmon, tuna, shrimp, and avocado - Dragon Roll -- classic unagi and avocado combo; can't go wrong here - Double Salmon Roll -- salmon both inside and on top with a light lemon garnish - Heaven Roll -- tuna-heavy roll inside and out; great for tuna lovers - Bay Bridge Roll -- another standout; tuna and avocado topped with roe and white sauce - Miso Soup -- simple and comforting - Salmon Avocado Roll -- classic fresh combo with cucumber added for crunch - Nigiri (seared salmon, unagi, baby scallop, salmon avocado) -- probably the best quality items overall; loved the fatty scallop and seared salmon - Mixed Greens Salad -- underrated side with a sesame-ranch style dressing - Yammy Yammy Roll -- spicy tuna and seared tuna topped with spicy mayo and unagi sauce - Hamachi Kama -- thinner cut than expected but still buttery and tender There was no wait on a Friday night and our party was seated immediately. The restaurant has tables in both the front dining area and a quieter back section that feels more private. You order through a tablet attached to the table, which also tracks your remaining AYCE time. Service was extremely efficient and dishes came out surprisingly fast. Some items stood out more than others, but overall we definitely got our money's worth. For around $50 including tax and tip, it's a pretty reasonable AYCE sushi option in SF.

Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake.
