This was my first time having a chicken bowl and I never suspected such a small dish could have such a mighty impact on my palate. We had an overnight layover in Frankfurt and decided to visit for dinner. We were not disappointed! I ordered Miso Ramen, which was made with pasta dough. Apparently, they had experimented with making noodles using locally-available ingredients. What an idea. This might have made the noodles more substantial and made me full quicker but it tasted great! Broth was thicker side but complimented the thicker noodles well. An order of miso ramen was very generous in quantity. We also enjoyed plum wine and citrus (yuzu) sake. They were both really yummy!

The takoyaki were also delicious, only wish they came with 6 and not 4. The chicken wings, another home run. The gyoza were a bit on the soggy side, perhaps maybe another 30 seconds in the pan would've made them perfect. Also try the various fruit teas, not too sweet and perfect to wash down the hot noodles with.

If you've never been to this place before remember you must order food from a machine downstairs located adjacent to bar. We didn't know this until we sat at a table for about 5 mins. Since it's mostly tourist that visits this establishment the waiters or host should inform customers when they enter the restaurant. No big deal because we figured it out and the machine was really cool since it's very user friendly like an iPad or an ATM. As for the food though it wasn't the greatest "Japanese" cuisine I've had. The food was already made so all they do is place it in the microwave and heat it up with the rice or vegetables depending on your order. Meat was dry, seems all the rice soaked up the moisture so the rice was greasy, vegetables like onions were uncooked and sauce accompanying the meal was bland. It was the fastest service maybe because you did half of a waiters job and all they do is nuke the food. Will never try this restaurant again.

I just never really thought much else about Japanese food here until I went to Konamon. You won't find ramen or sushi on the menu at Konamon. They specialize in okonomiyaki and takoyaki. They also offer some small dishes for appetizers. All is reasonably priced. They also have Kirin on tap. I ordered the pork okonomiyaki which was more or less a bacon like product as well as one order of octopus takoyaki. Both were stellar. I had the spicy miso with the okonomiyaki and their special house sauce with the takoyaki. Another great thing about this place is that I can walk there within 15 minutes and I have a bad feeling this could be dangerous for me in the future. Discovering this gem may be one of my summer highlights. The customer service is fantastic here and prompt. The takoyaki does take about thirty minutes to cook, on the other hand, so be prepared to wait a bit and enjoy a Kirin in the process. I don't have anything to compare this place to as I have never had Japanese food in Japan or even just Japanese food like this. But I left satisfied and feeling like I discovered a place I will go back to quite often, so I am extremely happy.
