This place is fab. The server told us they have had some negative reviews and I don't get it, as…read moreour experience last night (Monday) was delicious and fun. The vibe is great: moody and chill in terms of decor, lighting and the music. The music was at the perfect volume when we arrived at 7- good for talking, even with us seated almost next to the DJ- and the volume increased just slightly as the evening rolled on. Atmospheric vibes were conducive to a conversation which is exactly what we wanted: not having to shout to hear each other. The service was very good. The drinks great: my smash cocktail was potent and lovely: a bit herbal with strong gin flavour, with a touch of sweetness. My husband appreciated his bold whiskey and my friend her orange wine. The serving portions are generous for the price so massive applause there! A very large bowl of padron peppers and fried chicken, and my big bowl of nasu (aubergine) pleased me with its size, utterly delicious miso flavour, and texture. Likewise my oyster mushrooms. I was perfectly sated after. My friend's dragon roll was huge!! It's definitely not cheap but my friend's work covered half the bill. I would return.

We ordered karaage, and gyoza as well as a selection of sushi (Four Meal Drive), which was a really nice sampler - we loved all of it! Also got the California roll, which was delish. Yuzu pale ale beer rounded out the meal. Overall 5 star experience - great service as well as delicious food and location that can't be beat if you are needing something in Covent Garden.

In the area and with a craving for some Chinese food we turned to Yelp. After an initial bum steer…read moreto a long gone restaurant (c'mon London, get Yelping!) we ended up here, half expecting it to no longer exist it was a reassuring sight when we spotted the signage from across the road. We wandered it and were greeted and seated immediately. It was around 6pm and fairly empty, as I would expect for a Monday night I guess. The decor is fairly simple but clean and works well. Expect some bamboo and a few canvasses hanging on the walls depicting a tourist's eye view of China. We had two menu options, Chinese and Japanese. We were all about the Chinese but I had a look through the Japanese just out of curiosity and it looked pretty good. Our drinks order was taken promptly and we ordered starters and mains after being given a few minutes to peruse the menu, with some complimentary prawn crackers while we made up our minds. Starters were good value, bigger than I expected. I would have probably ordered to share if I had realised. No sooner had we finished we were asked if we were ready for our main. I figured this meant it was ready so we may as well have it rather than let it sit but then only half our order came out, with the rest appearing in bits and bobs over the next ten minutes. Food was nice, rice portions are big enough for two to share. Once we had been served it get a bit like we had been abandoned though. In the end I had to flag one of the staff down to get another drinks order in, even though they were constantly passing by our table and we had long since finished ours. Not a bad meal experience all told, but not one worthy of a huge detour for.

Was attempting to try the nearby Malaysian restaurant Kopi Tiam. However noted that at least on…read moreSaturday is only opened in the evening. Bummer. A bit earlier up the road towards Highbury and Islington station, we spotted this Chinese restaurant and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was nice inside. Warmly lit. Quite narrow but with plenty of seating. We chose some seats and ordered some Kung Po chicken with steamed rice, Singapore Fried Noodles and Prawn Balls with Sweet/Sour Dip. About 15 minutes later food started to come out. The Singapore noodles were impressive. Very tasty and plenty of veg, however limited amount of prawn/chicken/roast pork. Surprisingly it was cooked quite dry and not as oily as I was expecting. Next came my Kung Po chicken. Basically this is a spicy sweet and sour dish. It was excellent. Lots of chicken, veg and cashew nuts. Supported perfectly by the fluffy white rice. Then finally the prawn balls. These were less balls, more sticks of tiger prawns fried in batter with a sweet and sour sauce on the side. The sauce no kidding was black and I was sceptical. After dipping and removing my prawn from the dip, what coated my battered prawn more resembled sweet and sour sauce. Still made me feel a little ill at how artificial this was. It tasted fine in a way that luminous shiny red radioactive looking sauce does. On the menu were also some dim sum and sushi dishes. That surprised me, but given how good the other dishes were, I might just try the sushi some time. There was only one member of staff out on the floor, but given the place wasn't that busy we were never kept waiting for anything. Would definitely come back or order take-away from here.
