(This is a copy of my Google review.) Birch Bay Dermatology just lost three customers: my daughter, me, and my husband. My 17-year-old daughter phoned to make a routine followup appointment for acne treatment but was told that "the doctor was referring her elsewhere," for unspecified reasons. I happened to overhear this conversation and thought that was really odd, so I phoned the office for clarification. I was told the same thing. I then asked which doctor we'd be referred to, and the answer was, any other doctor we wanted to go to. When I inquired whether there was some reason that Dr. Kallal didn't want to treat my daughter, the person I spoke with said that she didn't know anything. Before this, my family has generally had cordial and respectful relationships with physicians, including Dr. Kallal, so this was a real shock. Since Dennis Ainsworth wrote a Google review for Birch Bay Dermatology 11 months ago that documented a similar "referral" issue, I can only conclude that this is a method that Dr. Kallal uses to rid herself of patients she doesn't want to treat. read more

This individual should not be allowed to practice. It's clear she's not practicing medicine. Her technician/nurse was unfamiliar with basic body parts that the receptionist was familiar with. I was refused treatment due to the location of my issue, come to found out that the office treats this condition regularly, and it seems Susie Kallal just didn't wanna. I don't have the time or energy to start file a lawsuit, but I'd be happy to participate in class action should such a suit be filed. read more

BEWARE! This isn't a doctor. Very unprofessional and extremely rude. You want to waste $150 to be seen for two minutes! Before she came in, her male assistant came in and told is that my brother's prescription had been already sent out for pick up... FIRST OFF. HOW IS THAT WHEN HE HAD NOT BEEN SEEN! Second of all how is it that this good for nothing "Dr" comes in only looks at his skin, shining a light on it from AFAR and only says its eczema, started walking out. I asked, "thats it?" She turn around at the door and lashed out "If you dont like this you can go some where else!" I was surprised that she had a nasty attitude and on top of that she sent her male assistant (can remember his name cause at this point he doesnt matter in my book, but he is there) to make sure we pay so he came up to reception and was livid saying we had to pay the $150. My brother tried explaining that money isn't the problem here it's the service is rude and very unprofessional. And the assistant raised his voice even more and lashed, "IM NOT TALKING TO YOU!" I had to ask again as to why my brother was sent a prescription a day prior when he wasn't even seen? And he couldn't even defend that. Not worth your money. I will make sure to never recommend anyone here. The service is atrocious. One even worth rating a star this place is a zero! read more

Glad to be the first one to give Dr. Kallal a review! I had a very pleasant experience here at the office. From the moment I called in, the receptionist was able to get me in the very next day for a mole removal. The office was very clean and organized and front desk was very knowledgeable about billing questions. Wait time was no longer than 10 minutes. The nurse took me into the first room took a brief q&a about what was going on and the doctor was in shortly after. She was very informative on what to expect with the procedure and the post op results. Both ladies made sure I was comfortable in the operatory and began working. Doctor was able to focus while also answering my questions and was precise and to the point. Will go in to get stitches out in two weeks and so far I see myself coming back for any dermatology related issues! read more

Glad to see she and her assistant have left the practice, although I feel for those folks in AZ who will soon find out how bad they are. Hopefully people will do a little research online before wasting their time and money with these two rude and dismissive people. I booked a body check and Doug showed me to the exam room, asked a few questions about areas of concern and then left me in there. After Dr. Kallal quickly burned a few brown spots on my face, she seemed to want me to leave. I said I thought you were going to do a body mole check. She had me lift my shirt, waved her flashlight on my front and back and then told me I was good to go. At reception I said I didn't want my insurance billed for a service not provided. Doug said I should have told him like I'm supposed to manage my own appointment? Kallal said I could come back in 6 months for the body check. I said I'll never be back thank you. I researched in advance to be prepared, I was appalled by their attitude and lack of proper practices. They truly deserve each other. A friend of mine had a similar experience. I'm not surprised at all to read all the negative reviews. I forgot to mention the pressure to buy her line of skincare products. Meh! I seriously thought about filing an official complaint. read more

I am VERY surprised to see the negative reviews. I have been a patient of Dr Kallal's from the very beginning of her practice in Bellingham when my previous Bellingham Dermatologist retired and recommended Dr Kallal to take over my care. Dr Kallal has been terrific in managing my regularly scheduled care (every 6 mo for skin check). 50 y.o.+, I have also had some treatments for sun damage and the results have been as positive as she described they would be. I have no doubts about her competency, ability and experience. I have frequently needed her to remove moles or tissue for pathology evaluation. Often I am needed to return to remove more tissue around the margins to ensure there is no issue. I have never had a painful experience in any of these instances. In every single case, either she or one of the team in her office has called me back to personally review the outcome when they said they would. Another trait of Dr Kallal's that I really appreciate is her ability to anticipate and describe her recommendations and why she is making them. It seems her practice has become very busy so it's happened that if they have a tight schedule the day of my appt she has said she's got a packed schedule and won't spend as much time to chat - that seems to be the case with all the good doctors in this town these days. I have recommended her to all of my friends - so far 100% positive - and will continue to do so. read more

Great place if you want to work with an unpleasant receptionist, passive aggressive office manager and a doc that misdiagnoses basic skin conditions. Read through the other reviews here and on Google because there's a pattern of behavior. If you push back with a concern/question (even a little bit), you may get referred to another doc with no explanation. I was a patient for several years but was referred away. My sin? I'd reached out to the doc to discuss an unpleasant conversation I'd had with the receptionist. Their response was to refer me with no conversation or explanation. Come to find out getting "referred" was the best thing that could happen. I discovered that BBD has an exceedingly bad reputation locally and found a new doc who provided a different/accurate diagnosis and who has a support staff that is kind and responsive. read more

Absolutely useless. Wasted my time, referred me to an allergist without offering any real help herself. I felt like she just wanted me out of there as soon as possible so she could get to billing my insurance. Allergist sees me, prescribes prednisone and I'm fine in 5 day's. My wife goes to see the Dermatologist, bad idea. My wife is a wonderfully nice person and thought maybe I was just being a cranky old man, wrong. The Dermatologist tells my wife she can't help her with her skin issues and will no longer see her as a patient. Tells my wife she needs to meditate and do yoga. Goes on about her years of training, study abroad in India and how she's a life coach. The worst bed side manner we've ever experienced. She never addressed my wife's specific concerns or offered any medicinal solutions. My recommendation is to stay away from this quack. Additionally, her male intake person is creepy AF. read more

My experiences with Dr. Kallal have been all positive. As someone prone to skin cancers her examinations have been complete and through. She's taken as much time as needed and explained what she was doing. Everyone in the office has also been polite and caring. read more

Stay away! She saw my mom for the first time, and she was SO damn fast in her work. She just started numbing the areas that she was going to work on, without even telling my mom what she was going to do first. She didn't stay long after that. She was shutting the door and acting like she was needing to go somewhere fast. SO annoying. She didn't even check to see if there were more spots to treat. She is a terrible doctor. No time to chat about what might have caused the raised areas. NOT ok. Especially with an older person, and she just started poking her with the needles to numb her arm, face and neck. I didn't get the chance to warn my mom. The doctor seems like she was irritated just being there. I wanted to slap her face and tell her to slow the f... down! Also the nurse that showed us the door out of the hallway, wanted to rush my mother. My mother walks with a cane and is handicapped. This place needs to work on their manners and start treating the patients for what they are there for! They are getting paid well for being rude. Stupid! read more

I was a little hesitant to come in after reading some of the reviews. But doctor Kallal was amazing very knowledgable. She knew exactly what my skin issues were. She took her time explaining everything to me. Very professional and I'm very pleased. read more

This place is horrible! Her nurse was so rude to me the first time I went in because I had my kids with me. I'm a stay at home mother. I haven't lived here long so childcare isn't exactly optional for me. The nurse asked me if I could leave my kids in the car. Lololol it was about 76 out and they are 3,4,and 6. Then told me my kids needed to be left in the waiting room unsupervised. Are you kidding me?!! Then I could hear the dr. And her nurse talking about me in the hallway. So here come my kids being shoves in the room and redirected to chairs that they had. The next visit was my biopsy and I had to argue with her that I'm sensitive to epinephrine and then she just "well we just can't do the biopsy then." So against my better judgement I let her do it. Then yesterday was the day I get to get my stitches removed and she told me that the samples came back benign and if I have a flare up I need to go get a different opinion. The office was clean and organized. The nurse and receptionist were fine. Dr Kallal was rude and rushed. I felt extremely unimportant. I was in for a skin check which costs $150 and was told that not every part of me could be checked. Well then what am I paying for? I also felt like Dr Kallal was uncomfortable with the naked body. I was thrown a couple brochures and out after maybe ten minutes. I would not recommend this doctor. I am young and low risk but that does not mean I don't deserve a little focus for the time paid for. read more

I would not recommend this doctor and will not be going back. They are not child friendly. The doctor was very confusing and caused me a lot of stress. They had no plan to ever let me know the test results for a mole I had removed. They had the test results for over a week and I only got them by practically begging. And they were to find out if it was melanoma. They set up appointments for me without telling me and then got mad at me over the phone when I cancelled the appointments that I didn't even know were scheduled for me.
