We came in the Winter so the Resort was very quiet. Our room was huge. It had one king bedroom with a bathroom. A large closet then a living room with a full kitchen and a pull out couch. It would be a great place to bring a family too. The beach is steps away and they have an indoor swimming pool. The downside is they had very little staff. The check in lady treats the customers as if we behaved badly in a library! Also if you want your room cleaned read the note in the lobby. Putting the card in the door like every other hotel in the world does not work. All in all it was a good place to stay read more

Definitely an older hotel that could use an update, but room was clean and spacious. It was more of a 1 bedroom apartment with kitchen, fireplace, and balcony. This has been a great experience! The pool is warm and clean, and doesn't wreak of chlorine. The bedroom has an oven, full fridge, and utensils that you can wash in the dishwasher. DO NOT STAY HERE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I don't mind if a place shows a little age because of normal wear and tear. I do mind if a place is dirty. Pictures to validate, left over lettuce in the fridge, spider web/dust bunnies above the TV, and a stick and debris on the patio. WiFi was a whole episode, where I was told I needed to bring my devices to the office to get some work done. The lady didn't know the network I was supposed to connect to, and kept giving me the wrong name. Got connected after 2nd day, coverage horrible. On last day got up early to go crabbing. Returned to hotel 5 hours before check out. Both keys wouldn't work, and they have no after hours support. Sat in car for 2 hours (8am), waiting for office to open. They need to take "resort" out of their name and replace it with "garbage". read more

Took a chance. Lost the room lottery. 108 - nope, no good at all. Checking in was a joke, walked in to "First and last name" Oh, no hello or anything okay - zero hospitality. Maybe the young lady needs a new job? Rude, unwelcoming. This was the most ridiculous place I have stayed in a very long time. Couldn't go to sleep until the people above got done making numerous trips to the bathroom to shower, have a bath, use the toilet and whatever else. It was SO LOUD!!! Plus heavy walking right on top of me. It was not pleasant at all. Here's what the 2 stars are for - considering the age and state of the place?, they have housekeeping dedicated to cleanliness. It smelled good and my linens were clean. Thank you for that, I don't begrudge a place for being worn -- if it's clean. Then, beach access - it's right there. we came back to rockaway beach and stayed for a few days again, which was so much fun.....it was stormy, and we've never seen high tide reach the riprap rocks, so that was a bonus....the room is big, clean, and they do recycling, which is a big plus....i have come here since the 1980's....it's great for beach time, and we walk to town a couple of times a day for a meal....the staff is so friendly and helpful if needed...we swam in the pool and it was invigorating as usual....the big storm tues into wed morning affected the sattelite tv, and the staff offered to move us, but we stayed put...it was nice they offered...the kitchen is great too....we always love coming here, and appreciate it....thx so much... read more

The staff is militant about their "rules". We were reprimanded for attempting to take a chair into the pool area, which we needed to watch our children swim. Their wooden benches they have are terribly uncomfortable. Also scolded for attempting to take coffee into that area. Also reprimanded for taking too much ice from the ice machine. Also told not to take our dog into our non-pet room. The reason I reserved an extra pet-friendly room was so that I would not need to have our puppy in the non-pet room! I was also over-charged for an additional room that I did not use and was not issued a refund for two days. The location would be great but the staff is RUDE and incompetent. read more

We had a great stay here. The room was clean and fresh smelling. May not seem like a big deal but it has been lacking in the last few places I have stayed. Everything about the room to me was great except the couch was super worn, stained and lumpy. Most other things seemed rather new and maybe they just had not got to it yet. The view was incredible. I was expecting a four star hotel just like the people that answered the phone and the website promoted. Once we checked in and unloaded all of our belongings for our trip, it came apparent that this was nothing near Fort Star. There is no air conditioning very very challenging to get ventilation. Call the front desk if they had a planner and a paper. They told me that there was no paper in the room and if I would need one, I would need to go to the front desk. I asked the front desk if there was any recommendations to go to dinner as little as ask them if there is a good pizza place and they said they don't know I would have to look that up. I'm not sure how they rate hotels in Lincoln city but this place is not near close to nor ever will be in my opinion for Star. A motel more amenities than this place does in my opinion so good luck my thoughts are the employees and owners put good and praise on yelp to make their place a better rated for lack of better words. read more

Im giving Surfside a 4 out of 5 and I'll explain why. Basically $150 a night with an ocean side view 2nd story and balcony, I got pretty much exactly what I expected. In other words, manage your expectations and you should be fine. I do think you should know what you're getting into. The pros: Ocean view, balcony, nice size room. We had a corner room and it was very bright with windows on two sides. We didnt hear much noise from anyone and had good nights sleep. The places is conveniently located near most of the things you'll want to visit in that part of the coast. Furniture was comfortable. The gas fireplace was fun to use on the chilly nights. We enjoyed the sound of the ocean along with the sunsets. Cons: 1. No USB ports 2. Nightstand only on one side of the bed 3. Kitchen utensils are sparse and showing their age. 4. This is the big one: if you have mobility issues, you need to know you'll be climbing stairs no matter where your room is. In particular, the stairwell to the 2nd floor rooms is very narrow. We were not asked if we needed help getting bags to the room. I would not come here if I had trouble walking without assistance or needed help with luggage. 5. As someone else mentioned, the young woman in the front office isn't friendly. These days I cant tell if people have attitude issues or are just high and cant communicate (or both) but it was a bit off-putting. 6. The property also is public access to the beach and there are a lot of people wandering around at all hours. During heavy tourist season, Id be a bit concerned about my car in the parking lot. Also to that point, people will "camp" right outside your room and play amplified music. It didnt bother us but I could see it being an issue. 7. Not really a "con" but be aware the TV operates on basic cable, so you wont have access to Netflix and other streaming services unless you bring a laptop. 8. Drainage in the parking lot is an issue in some spots. In the morning I had to walk through a rather deep puddle which wasnt there the night before, to get into my car. Okay, I think that's it. It seems like a long list of "cons" but I'll re-iterate that we enjoyed our stay and got pretty much what we expected for what we paid. read more

My family and I have stayed her 2 times this past year, once in March and once this past week (June). Both times were excellent. I called to ask questions about the rooms and both times the front office was very pleasant and helpful. So here is the thing, if you are super picky or want luxury, this is not the place for you. It is a motel with doors to the outside and windows that everyone walks by the bedroom, if you get the suite style rooms. If you are on the queen bed in the main living part, you can hear the ocean and you sleep soundly. If you are in the private bedroom with the window facing the walkway and parking lot, expect to get woken up constantly starting at 0630. People pulling luggage and coolers down the stairs, people standing right outside your window screaming at their kids, kids having meltdowns, and drunk people at night. This was a bummer both times but it isn't the motels fault, it is ridiculous people who have no manners or sense, however it does affect your overall sleep so it bears mentioning. The rooms themselves are run down a bit, but they are very clean and functional. The kitchenette had everything we needed to make small breakfasts and lunches (we ate out for dinners). The bed in the bedroom was very firm and not the most comfortable but not horrible. The fan in the bathroom is RIDICULOUSLY loud and the fireplace ticks but really not that big of a deal. There was no housekeeping service either time we stayed, which was a bummer since we had to reuse our towels several times. The pool was also closed, also probably not their fault since the governor has it all shut down STILL or has ridiculous rules about pools but if you are hoping to have a pool, you are out of luck. Parking is pretty easy and beach access is amazing. We had fires out on the beach each night. The view from our balcony was spectacular! Right on the ocean! They need to add some more garbage receptacles in the parking lot as all of them were overflowing. Overall, a very pleasant stay and we will absolutely come back. Just a tip - Rockaway Beach gets VERY BUSY in warm weather and there are very few places to eat. The ones that are in town are jam packed with minimal staffing (also not their fault) so there are often very long waits or they just tell people they arent taking any other customers (sometimes as soon as 630), so plan accordingly. There are no gas stations in town, and just a convenience store and dollar general for food. read more

I loved my stay here, it wasn't a bells and whistles kind of resort, but that said it was a great place. The room was more like a apartment then a hotel, a full size kitchen stocked with everything need plates, silverware glassware. The room was our and the staff never came in unless invited meaning we didn't need to worry about locking stuff up when we left the room. Okay so they didn't make the bed everyday and you had to put your dirty towels out side for clean ones. But from the room door to feet on the beach it took 2 whole minutes. And the sunsets were awesome. The pool was well maintained and opened 12 hours a day, and the staff when needed super helpful. read more

This is hard to review without being biased - as this place has been a family tradition for over 15 years The staff remain awesome, friendly & very responsive, Rockaway is the most awesome & least crowded beach , incredibly pet friendly area , and still a very cheap price hotel. Through the years the rooms are needing updates & repairs. Curtains are broken, carpet is torn, rug/couch stains, pans are not useable, & kitchen knobs don't match. Still for the price of a stay with a kitchenette, balcony & gas fireplace right on the coast - this place remains our go to place every time we head to the coast. I had book a room at the end of August for our September 13th to 15th weekend trip with our dog for a family reunion. I pacifically choose a room that said it was pet friendly. We drive over 2 hours after working all day. We get there about 7:30 pm to check in. At this time the receptionist informed me my room is NOT pet friendly. I spoke with the manager (I wish I would have got his name). I asked if I could even pay more to stay in the room with my dog he said no and there was no other available rooms. I then asked for other accommodations concerning the time it was and the time it takes to get to the coast from my home. He was not helpful at all. And told me I had two hours to call to get my money back. Mine you at this time I'm looking for other availabilitys and the only ones that were available that accepted pets were over $600. A night. Not in our budget. I also tried to get my money back but was having an issue with the confirmation number to my reservation. I ended up needing to call the resort to get the number for the booking app I used. I called them back to give them the number and it was the wrong number. By this time it's about 9:15pm. After talking with the receptionist she gave me the ok to call for a refund in the morning. So we drove all the way back home. Got home about 11:30pm. At this time I had been up since 3am for work. I called in the morning still having an issue with them finding my reservations and payment. I then called the resort again to speak to the manager. He would not get on the phone with me and I could hear him talking to the man that answered the phone saying I would not be getting my money back because I didn't call with in the 2 hours he gave me. I will never try to stay here or use booking. Com. What a joke and I'm out almost $400.00. I would also recommend not staying here the manager of this place is a weasel. He completely f***ed my boyfriend and I not only this but my poor dog had to be stuck in the middle of all the B's we went through that night. read more

I realized on my exit day the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes. 1st night was good bed not too comfortable. 2nt night the neighboring room had their tv up so loud all night . Tried calling office and kept getting voicemail. I wasn't happy about not being able to relax.or sleep While the sound vibrated through out my room. Upon checking out the key was turn off so I was locked out of my room but Angel saved the day. She let me in and took a bag down for me. The staff is great and the location is great . read more

It was okay. The view from the room and deck was great. The actual room was pretty rough. The bedding, couch, curtains, all need to be replaced. The bathroom was the worst. Peeling wall paper, gross shower curtain, gross calking around shower and toilet. Also, for 2 hours starting at 6am it sounded like furniture was being moved upstairs. The low ratings had my expectations low, but I was surprised how decent it was. We had the 2 Queen unit and it was very large. It had a seperate bedroom space and living room space. Malibu (lol yes, that's his name) does not care about customer service or the company he works for. DO NOT STAY HERE. Didn't even get into my room before I felt I needed to leave and let them keep my 300 dollars because they clearly needed it more than we did. if you plan to stay here, make sure you dont bring your SERVICE animals because they will not have a room to accommodate you, and I would suggest asking for someone else to check you in/take care of your needs while you're there. Rockaway Bay is a tiny town nobody talks about, shithole but something about it makes me love it. Maybe it's the fact that there's a Cannabis shop every block but no gas stations Nice work, I would come back just for your obvious good decision on useful business. So not sure why this place has such bad ratings... I think some of the rooms are better than others. We got a nice apartment style room on the water. The view really did make up for the shitholelyness. Here's the shit they need to fix: *Doors don't close unless you remember to pull them shut, which isn't a huge deal except most places doors close on their own so we forget to check and left our room open for hours while we went to dinner. Lame. You're lucky I left my million dollars at home. *The fans! Good lord could you be any fucking louder! * The ticking sound of the fireplace!! I had to blast the TV to not hear it. *TV options suck, would have been nice to be able to play a movie (no DVD player) or log on the Netflix. * They could use a few basic hotel remodeling updates. Things that impressed me (which is hard to impress a picky bitch like myself.) *They had absolutely everything we needed for a studio apartment. Dishes, microwave, even a toaster. If we were buying our food and actually cooking it, they had everything needed. But seriously who the fuck is making full meals on Vacation!? Relax Susan, nobody's judging your mom skills on vaca. * The nasty looking black out curtains are old AF but work extremely well. Makes me wonder how much sperm is really there after 30 years or so. * Staff (or the one chick we had contact with) was delightful and we felt welcome. *Rockaway Beach was way better than Cannon Beach, so much quieter, less busy and less crowed with crotch goblins (children) and Flea Fuckers (dogs). These guys are doin fine, I would just maybe invest in some upgrades and you could easily charge hundred more a night. The view/walk to the beach makes up for all the bad. We got a deal for this suite at the last minute for $200 a night on Expedia, not sure if that's the normal prices, but seeing how most water front suites ANYWHERE on Oregon coast is twice that, I think they are reasonably priced and again, the view makes up for the price we paid. You're paying for the view if you stay here without a view.. well I'd probably drop it to three stars. I think only thing I learned is I would plan more in advance for a nicer place but if I couldn't find anything, I'd def stay here again. read more

It was great being right near the ocean. I stayed in one of the basic rooms without a view. I asked before I booked about the beds and they said that they change them out every two years. The one I got in room 107 definitely was 20 to 30 years old. It was very uncomfortable and I didn't sleep well at all. I wonder if the beds in the other rooms are better. read more

Much less than expected. The idea is great the execution is very poor. As I lay here writing this review at 10:30pm I can hear the sounds of EVERY SINGLE FOOT STEP from the people above us amplified and accented by creaks and cracks of the poorly constructed and deteriorating building for the 3rd night in a row. The place smelled absolutely disgusting when we arrived and we asked for a new room, but none were available. They assured us they would come up and clean everything while we went out for dinner. What we came back to was a fresh can of Glad on the counter and mix of dog and dollar store air freshner. We went to the local store and got our own can of Lysol and some coconut air freshners... The bedding was really filthy and had some kind of dirt/glass clipping or something all over it when we pulled back the sheets and we ended up having our son sleep on the couch instead of the second bed. The rooms themselves are very dated and not safe for young children. The only positive I can say and the only reason for the 2nd star is the view of the ocean was great and if the slider had a screen it would be really nice to listen to the sounds of the waves while you fall asleep. read more

While the rooms may be a bit outdated the space in them is great for families. The price per night was right in line for a typical hotel. The rooms have ample bedroom space with a bathroom located right inside. The sped are living area space with a large kitchenette, dinning table, sofa, fireplace and balcony is a bonus. It's like getting two rooms in one. It is a family location so you will hear kids playing and adults walking dogs, but the beach access is super convenient! They need to take resort out of their name. It was anything BUT a resort. The only good thing I can say about this place is it had a great view! When we walked in, the oven reeked like someone burnt something in it. The room was hot and after looking at the thermostat we realized there was no air conditioning. It got so hot in the room that we went and bought a fan. There was no screen door for the balcony and when we left it open anyway we got flies in the room. The balcony light was burned out and the chairs on the balcony were disgusting looking and we didn't even want to sit in them. The fan in the bathroom made a lot of noise but didn't work. There was a small area of sheetrock/plaster from the ceiling in the bathroom that was hanging down. One of the bath towels had a big hole in it. The room was decorated in cheap 1980's furniture and the table lamps were rusty. The housekeepers left their super rusty laundry carts at the bottom of the stairs so you had to walk around them and not use the handrail. They should of saved the money they spent on their fancy roadside sign and spent it on their rooms. VERY disappointed! read more

I am really happy I found this place. It was the perfect hotel to get away from it all. I stayed in the ocean view suite. It had everything I needed, a nice fireplace, kitchen table, small couch, stove/oven, full size fridge, dish washer, etc. It is right on the beach and has a nice balcony. Only thing is there wasn't any chairs for the balcony. The hotel is dated but hey, if it keeps the prices down I'm ok with that. I do agree with another post that the black out curtains didn't fully block the sun. The sun shines through the top of the curtains early in the morning. Overall it was a great value for what I got. My family has been coming to this hotel for 5 years now, maybe even 6 for a certain holiday block each year. The location is great, had no problems with the room, we always stayed in the same one, and Im not big on amenities, I honestly do not care. For all of the positives that this place had going for it, since it has changed ownership it seems to have gone downhill, and fast. My family and I stayed in our normal room during this last holiday for approximately five days and to save them on extra work we declined room service for the whole time; all the while bringing bags of trash into their trash bin below as we left to go on day trips. We return from our trip there and my wife checks our credit card statement. Much to our surprise the hotel had charged us near $350 for damages to the room. No reaching out to us to let us know, nothing, just charge away and be damned what we think, or if we ever find out. This charge was completely erronious on their part since the pictures of the evidence that we asked for showed zero damage to the room, only a normal amount of cleaning that would be required if a guest had stayed in the room for 5 days. We tried to work out a compromise with the hotel, heck we were even willing to pay some towards it, if they would have worked with us, but no. They immediately stopped responding to all emails and phone call inquiries from me.Also, from the other reviews here, you can see that all the carpet, paint and furniture are dated, it is ridiculous for them to charge us for things that are already needing to be replaced. Such a shame as my wife wants to stay here again since she loves the location so much, but I refuse to be treated in such a manner. Please take this as a warning, and plan your stay elsewhere in Rockaway Beach, even if it costs a bit more. read more

Stayed here left then came back for a different room. Beds are horrible and need replacement bad!!! Was told they're all sup to be pillow top but man oh man I was up on the hour every hour. Couches are also super old. Views are amazing and super nice waking up basically on the water. Okay so I do recommend this resort. Their rooms are pretty much quaint little studio apartments that give you amenities that you generally wouldn't get when going to a hotel. They had glass top stoves, full refrigerators, a dishwasher, a full size bathroom, a dining room table, a relatively comfortable sofa, and the service was great. They have a very friendly staff. Our only problem with the resort is the fact that it's beds, at least the one we slept on, are for people that are used to a firmer mattress. I found a Great deal on booking.com w/ a "partial ocean view..." we checked in and realized that the partial ocean view had No View at all and had a view of the parking lot instead we asked to upgrade to an ocean front if possible, if it wasn't a lot more money. The young man at the front asked the manager and told him our situation and came back to us with good news he apologized and hooked it up! And it wasn't much more money either we got a family suite with an ocean view for the weekend, rather than a queen bed room with a parking lot view. We were so happy! So thankful. This is the second time I've stayed here. My first stay was bland, I was put in a small room facing the road. This time I thought, maybe I'll get a beachside room or at least something a little better... since everyone reviewing seems to note the large room and the view. Nope, as a single traveler once again I was put up on the second floor overlooking the loud road. I asked if there was any other room. Walking up stairs can be difficult for me. No, I was told that I used an online booking company and they assigned the room. They have no control. The room was loud and dark. No overhead light. No desk. A big moth on the bed. The bed is lumpy swishy and I feel like I will topple out. After the unhelpful people and the large price of the room... I won't be staying again. read more

Upon arrival at my favorite pet friendly room, I could not find the dishes. They were in the dishwasher, dirty. I turned it on. The full size bed, not a queen, fell apart and was like sleeping on a brick. Very flat pillows, all 2 of them. The bathroom had human hair in it. Yuck! In the morning I discovered used coffee in the coffee maker. The help wanted sign in the lobby window has been there for years. Do the staff not get paid well enough to stay?
