These are all individually owned units. Some are rented out and some are not. Each owner used a different management company or platform so quality of rentals and decor varies as well. Great Views at least from Condo #12 Awesome rooms. Fully furnished. Large Kitchen. Cool Porch area with Picnic Tables outside your room for some cool beach weather seating and most of the Picnic Tables are under cover. There is a regular gate doorway to your room. Sounds strange. So you have a regular door. Then outside is the secondary gate for a secure Child / Dog Gate that can be locked in position so you can enjoy the weather and not loose loved ones. (Although I didn't understand the Handicap Ramp on the 2nd. floor when there is no elevator. I guess if you could carry the person upstairs.....) Anywho. Big Bay Windows for some sweet ocean views. comes with its own pair of Binoculars too. Cool. From our second floor room, there is only the small parking lot then a small hill and then it's all beach. We're literally a stones throw from the beach. With Beach Access right in front of us. Our Condo is a 2 Bedroom with a hideabed in the living room. Total 6 person condo. It would be a little crowded with 6 Adults in here but at the beach.... I only see 6 people being in this condo at the same time because its dinner time. No body stays in the house at the beach. This low-key, friendly place harkens back to the days when a successful business was the one with the best service. The lovely woman who checked us in today seemed to genuinely want to help with anything we might want or need for our stay. They had even waited until we arrived to charge for the reservation that I had made online, as they were having a "special". We had reserved two nights at their already very reasonable rates, but with the promotion we had a choice oh stay one night get 50% off the second or pay for the two nights as booked and stay a third night free. After seeing the location and the astounding view ( honestly the best I have ever had on the Oregon Coast, even with rooms three times the price) staying the third night was a no-brainer. Each of the units is individually owned, with it's own character. If the unit we chose is any example, they are comfortable and clean. The room is not fancy, but quite cute, and not at all shabby - as some other properties in The price range have appeared to be. I could wish for a tub in the room, but the stall shower is spacious and quite nice. There are picnic tables (we have one on the deck right outside our room for our use) and grills for guests, as well as free wi-fi. The beach itself is literally feet away, across a rather pretty dune that enhances the view. I definitely owe lunch to the friend who recommended we stay here, and you owe it to yourself to check it out the next time you want to escape to the beach. We spent one night- a Thursday night- here, I think in unit 12. The view was fantastic. The staff was so nice. The room was really nice, and we really had a great stay. The porch/deck was fantastic. I really had a good time, but can see it would get lively on the weekends. read more

DON't WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME Upon arrival the location is great if you enjoy being steps from the beach. I was only staying one night so check in time is at 3pm and check out is 11am. Testing my luck, I thought I would swing by at 1 pm to see if the room was available for early check-in. To my surprise it was still occupied. (I thought check out time was 11am) Management explained it was a family reunion of an employee and that the relatives can't check out until another room is available for them. Since family members had many other rooms, couldn't these people put there stuff in the other rooms so mine could be adequately cleaned. Needless to say I had to wait until a few minutes past what should have been my check-in time. Not a big deal, but the room wasn't vacuumed and the fridge still had the other peoples food in it. If I left my door open children were entering my unit thinking it was theirs. Parents no where to be found. Then I closed my door just to have the same kids knocking on it, then later the parents knocking on it looking for a nerd gun. WIFI...JOKE it worked for a select few minutes mid-day. In the evening not EVER. Went to the office that had a closed sign on it. Door was open so I peeked my head in and said "Hello" no response. But the aroma of marijuana knocked my socks off. Went back to my room and called the office only to get a voicemail. Upon checkout I let them know that the WIFI was not functioning and the response..."I'm sorry" Then the lady had her husband(?) come in to check on the issue. Remember I'm checking out, the solution at this point is pointless for me. He reached behind the desk to a clump of wires and she even seemed taken back. Apparently the internet problem was due to a jimmy rig job trying to connect wires to a modem by using scotch tape. At that point I walked out and came to the resolve that I would never come back. Sad too, because although the unit wasn't clean and kind of smelled. The location was beautiful, afterall I was there for the beach and a few hours of work on the internet. I would rather pay more $$$ to get a place that has competent management. Don't waste your money or your time. read more

The people who run this place are very friendly. Each unit is individually owned and our unit had a King size bed with a separate living area and a full kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay here, the room was much nicer than we expected! We stayed in Unit 2, a queen studio with a futon for extra sleepers (in this case, our dog). We brought some of our own dishes but were surprised to find the kitchen fully stocked with dishes, towels and ice in the freezer. The room was clean and comfy and even had a little electric fireplace for the night time chill. The only thing I would change about this room is the bed.. it was a little rickety and not super comfortable. But maybe its just in this room, or maybe I'm just used to my king bed at home. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The beach is just over a little hill. I really like that they allow dogs without a hefty fee like most rentals charge! read more

Love this place! Been going for a about 2 years now and it's always been a good experience. They have dog friendly rooms that are nice. Great proximity to the beach - literally a walk across the parking lot and over a small sand dune. The staff has always been super friendly and accommodating. We've stayed in a few different rooms and they've all been very nice. The rooms are adorable, quaint and have a homey, vintage feel. The rooms have a great stock of kitchen ware, stove, full sized fridges and BBQ's on site for guest use. This is a beach front, small hotel that really is a great little getaway! read more

My family and I had never stayed in Rockaway and were unsure of what kind of lodging we would find. We were pleasantly surprised by GOL. We were in the area for a wedding and ending our week long vacation. We stayed in room 1 and it was just perfect for our family. The kids had their own room and there was plenty of living space. Kitchen was well stocked for all or cooking needs as well. We even had a BBQ right outside our door. Great beach access and the staff was so friendly. The first thing to mention about The Getaway is that each unit is individually owned and therefore the quality of decor and amenities differs GREATLY from unit to unit, which is not stated on their website. However, all of the units are within steps of the beach... very convenient. I stayed here with several other friends and we rented out a total of four different units. Two of us had fantastic stays and the other two... not so much. I rented Unit 1. It is on the ground-floor on the corner nearest the beach. No beach view, as the sand dune is too high, but that's not a big deal as you have full access to the upper decks with picnic tables to sit and gaze from. This unit was so cozy! Very nice decor, comfy furniture. This is a great room for mom/dad/2 kids combo or a few friends. We liked having a dining room table to play games on. Fully equipped kitchen with lots of plates, utensils and everything you need to cook/bake to your hearts content. The tempur pedic bed was AMAZING, but it took up the entire room. And I mean... the ENTIRE room. It was so comfy that I didn't care, aside from the broken headboard *ahem*. The other bedroom was also very nice. Sheets were clean and freshly laundered. The bathroom was average, but clean and had a decent jacuzzi tub (very noisy though, would definitely bother neighbors if used late at night). Could easily hear neighboring units. I would not consider this unit upscale/fancy, but it was clean and cozy and I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. My friend rented Unit 11. Better suited for a family situation or two couples as there is more room to move around. Also nice that it had a large dining table. Also had a fully stocked kitchen. One thing I like was that they had table clothes in the units to bring outside to the picnic tables if you wanted to use one of the multiple community bbq's. Since there were about 15 of us we actually used the upper community deck one night to have a group bbq and it was a great time. Unit 11 has one of the best, if not THE best view of the lot. I would recommend this room. Another friend stayed in Unit 3 with spouse, two kids and a dog. Decor was very outdated. It smelled of old cabin mixed with sooty fireplace and old man smell. They were not impressed. Small and not worth the money, compared to similar rates being charged for far superior rooms. The last unit we occupied was Unit 13, and I have to say this was my least favorite. To say it was outdated and run-down would be an understatement. Decor was abismal, furniture was mis-matched, outdated and smelled. This unit also had the smell of old fireplace and old man. I'm sorry, I just don't know how else to describe it. Very plain. Kitchen ran into the living/dining room as if it was one large room. The only saving grace of this room is the fantastic view and large windows. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend it or waste my own money on it. If each unit weren't individually owned, I think this could be a much more desirable property. I loved units 1 and 11 and would absolutely stay in those again. A couple of the other upstairs units looks decent as well. One thing I will mention is that the walls/floors/ceilings are pretty thin and neighbor noise is easily heard. Staff was friendly,helpful and seem to do a good job taking care of the property. This is an amazing place to stay. You are central to everything and so very romantic. Room 10 is the best as it has the best view. Highly recommend staying here. And if you do you must climb the G in Girabaldi... you will know what it is. Great location! Almost every room has a view of the Ocean. You are literally steps from the shore. The rooms are very clean and have all the comforts of home. The off season rates are probably better than others in the area (especially for what you get). The managers Vicki and Aaron are two of the nicest/kindest people you will meet. They will go out of their way to be of service to you--(even when the office is closed)! They are well informed about all of the local info. you will need. I don't know when they sleep--they always appear to be working hard with a smile on their faces. Really great place. Come and check it out. You will be pleasantly surprised. read more

A wonderful surprise for us! We'd never really heard of GOL, but my wife received a gift certificate for the place. From our previous experience with beachfront spots, we expected something totally different. WOW! This was wonderfully clean, pretty, spacious with an AMAZING view of the rocks and the rest of one of our favorite beaches in the state. The folks that run it? Friendly, helpful, good conversation - really like them. It was nice to have very large windows that the business kept spotlessly clean so we could see the beach and the amazing sunset. Cozy, near some great food and shopping, an amazing place - and we had 4 teenagers with us in our room. We liked it enough that we decided to make it our "timeshare" on the beach with plans to come back every month of the year. We stayed here on Fathers Day weekend. I wanted to book room 11 or 12 but we ended up in 8 (the last one they had left). The lady who checked us in was very nice, our unit had one bedroom with the kitchen and little living room with a hideabed. Two 14 year old girls slept like rocks on the hide a bed they said it was really comfy high praise from our princess. The Getaway is right on the beach you go down the stairs up over and dune and boom Ocean. Everything was easy going and everyone that was staying there seemed really nice. I am a crafter at heart and there was a lady that stayed in an end unit that had her sewing machine set up on the deck looking out at the ocean.... a woman after my own heart. Dogs are welcome. If I could change just one thing I would put fans in the units, we were really lucky to have 74 degree weather but our bedroom was situated in a way that you could not get cross ventilation with every window in the unit open. I like my bedroom cool to cold when I sleep and it was to warm for me. And the window in the bathroom opened right to the deck so the other side of the units had a direct view if you had the window open. I loved Rockaway Beach, The Getaway, the town and the little train that runs through it. Great place... read more

This was our first and last time staying at the Getaway Oceanfront Lodging. The staff was pleasant until we paid and then the customer service took a hike. We were in unit #12 and the decor was nice, but there is no air conditioning so we had to leave the windows open. This would have been fine, but the 10pm quiet hours are not enforced and people were on the porch being loud until 3am. Also, people were smoking outside our windows. Me and my infant son had to sleep with the windows shut and it was extremely hot. I tried to tell the staff this the next day and let them make it up to us somehow, but they failed. Their response was 1. it's summer so people party until 3am and 2. The area outside unit #12 window has been a designated smoking zone for years (like I should have known that). So, in short, if you are looking for an expensive, smoky, hot, loud place with rude service this is perfect for you. If you want a clean, friendly place where you can actually sleep try somewhere else. read more

I looked at a couple of places and then stopped here, at The Getaway. The managers, Vicki and Aaron, were amazing; warm, kind and friendly. They had a room available and the price was very affordable. It was so cozy and spacious, and had a terrific ocean view. There is also immediate beach access right out the door too. They actually showed me several rooms and they were all charming. I was so comfortable it felt like home. I have already told many people about The Getaway. I know I will go there again and again. And when I get there I know I'll have a great time, AND get to visit with my new friends, Vicki and Aaron. So, if you're looking for a good deal and a homey place to rest, this is it! read more

Last year had a wonderful time here with friends. We rented out about half the units. Managers were friendly and accommodating. New management was not as friendly. We did get a little loud but quieted down because we realized how late it was. About 30-40 minutes after we quieted down, manager comes up to ask us to be quiet. We had already quieted down on our own, so the message was unnecessary. Not the best experience this year and we will be looking elsewhere for our group to stay. Very disappointed. read more

Staff was awesome and helpful, we stayed in unit #5 I knew what is was going to look like but my husband was disappointed it could use some upgrading but it worked for what we were there for. However now I know next time I will choose upstairs so we can see the beach from our room, another downfall was the pitter patter of little feet at 7am. My family & I have been coming to The Getaway Resort for 12+ years and in those many years we have never been treated as we have this last trip 7/15/14.We had made are reservations back in April of this year for unit 1.But the day of our arrival the new management (which was EXTREMELY rude informed me that we were now being put into unit 6 and she has no control nor does she know anything about online reservations and "we could just go stay somewhere else"( wonderful customer service) So we took unit 6 which is in the back alley,verses #1 unit which is ocean view and charged as the price of that unit.So 40.00 over the original price of unit 6.Questioning her over this price difference,answer...... She has no control over it.Will never be going back unless the owners fire the incompetent management that has no control over anything in her units. read more

We recently had the displeasure of staying at this hotel in room number 2. What was advertised as an ocean view was indeed not unless you walked over the sand dune. It had two tiny windows and no air conditioning which left the room hot and stuffy. The back door which was opposite another room had no curtain for privacy. There was mold in the shower, on the shower curtain, and on the bathroom sink. There really was no room to set our suitcases on. The queen bed that was advertised was instead a double. The kitchen sink was slow draining. Don't bother trying to use the oven because there is no exhaust vent. The bathroom wall at one time must have had a leak because it wasn't painted over. The coffee grinder was dirty. If you're a tall person forget this shower. It was way too low. On top of the room fee was $150 nonrefundable fee for two dogs for four nights. If you want the beach experience don't bother staying here. read more

The Getaway is beach front and the staff goes out of their way to help you. We stayed in room 3 and it was dimly lit, we called it " the dungeon."It is also a dog friendly room located between the Managers office and the "Employee Only" room. FYI, do not stay in this room if you have a dog because everyone and their mother walks past your room. The photos on line were filtered because although the room was decorated in a beach theme, the wood walls and three small windows made the room feel small and clostraphobic. At night the room was engulfed by the outside lighting. The room could really use blinds during the day with blackout curtains at night. I would revisit The Getaway but would not ever stay in room 3 again. read more

I stayed in room 12 in october, it was a nice room. I understand that each room is privately owned. It is well keep, clean, and worth the price. It has a great view, and the staff is very friendly and helpful! The furnishings are a little old and could be updated. That seems to be the problem with this kind of set up, they don't care if people come back. So they put in the minimum amount to make it possible but with a few more dollars they could really make it fantastic it's kind of sad! I wanted to do a separate review of the second condo I stayed in but yelp would not let me! I stayed in " 10 also while the view was much better than 12 as 10 is on the end. It's not as nice inside holes in the bedroom walls, a very dangerous plug be hid the bed that's a fire hazard and a lot of little things that need to be replaced it's sad when someone is trying to do what could be a very nice place on the cheap so for number 10 I would only give it a two star! read more
