Beautiful pier but HORRIBLE fishing. Very nice bait stations with water. They even have rod holders. It's limited to 2 rods per paid fisherman. This is not enforced and locals will fish 4+ rods especially at the end of the pier. read more

I was disappointed in the Pier after waiting 3 1/2 years to rebuild..... but I have no doubt given time they will rent open spaces to businesses and be rocking. We went here for the first time ever today and loved it. There was an overcast sky, and it was sprinkling rain, but we walked along the beach and let the water wash up around our feet. We were one of only three other groups there, so there was way more than enough space between us and other people. We parked by the entrance to the Surfside Pier. It was $2 for up to two hours or $10 per day. We were there around 11am, and there were plenty of parking spaces available. The pier restaurant was open, and most of the people parking in that particular lot was going to the restaurant. We chose to park here because of the public restrooms and outdoor showers, so we could wash the sand from our feet before getting back in the car. Later in the day, we saw that there are numerous parking lots with public beach access all along the oceanfront from Surfside Beach to Garden City. So we may park somewhere else later in the week to avoid the pier restaurant crowd. The beach was clean and beautiful. We are going back at least a couple more times this week before we head home on Saturday. read more

Free parking after 7 is a huge plus during the summer. There are many restaurants nearby and is less touristy than the boardwalk so this was a good mix of options but not over crowded or overpriced. The beach was ok but not spectacular. Definitely would give this 3 stars for the beach. The water is murky and it's very hard to see but the floor is very flat and easy to walk on. The waves aren't too bad in this area so you swim. read more

My typical go-to beach is Folly - closer to home, quiet (if you go all the way to the end) and clean. I never accept an invitation to Myrtle (too many trashy High School memories) and other negative stigmas... My BF's parents recently got a beach house in Surfside, so I opted to go for a short weekend trip... He assured me that Surfside had more of a retiree population. I was pleasantly surprised and glad I came. I've been dying to see a beach sunrise, so we got up at 6:30 and headed to the beach which was only 2mins down the road from the house (Surfside Dr). There were a few people scattered across the beach awaiting the sunrise as well. The temperature was perfect - nature's colors were perfect #nofilter We went back out around 11:30am and there was more of a crowd (it was a Saturday). There was a lot of open (pay) parking spots alongside ocean ave. The only shower I saw was near the pier. Atlantic water is Atlantic water, so it wasn't any different than my preferred Folly. The sunrise was worth it all! read more

What a great beach! There isn't a long walk to the water. The sand is fine and light. There is a nice dock to walk out on. Restaurants right on the beach or within walking distance. Public restrooms and a shower to rinse off are at the entry to the beach. There is an ice cream shop, a shaved ice stand and a small stand with free burn care (sunburn or jellyfish stings). There is even someone that passes by right on the beach selling "soft frozen" lemonades for $3! There are some small fish in the water and some nice shells when the tide is right. Overall a great beach...just watch out for those jelly fish! read more

This truly is a family friendly beach. We went on a Friday morning and found great parking. The beach was very clean and not crowded.

Spent a week here in a rental. The rental was exactly what our family needed. If you come here check with Dunes Reality. They are great. I came to Surfside Beach as a kid and looked forward to returning. There are many things to like here. The beaches are graded daily and have a fresh feel to them each day. The water is clean here, no foaming from pollution. This is a family beach, lots of kids and families with games. All of these provide a great experience. However, there are some issues that can be annoying. First, there are rules about location of canopies and umbrellas that are strictly enforced under the guise of safety but probably more for convenience of city personnel. The second day on the beach, a beach enforcement person made us move our tent 3 foot, which isn't a big deal but is an annoying power move on their part. All the canopies must remain to the rear of the beach. Canopies must be 10 feet apart which mean no joining two tents together for big parties of people. Umbrellas can be toward the water. I don't really care about the arrangement as much as their unreasonable explanation for it. If this was truly a safety solution every beach in the US would be doing it. If they are attempting to regulate activities such as alcohol consumption, they failed because many adults around our party had alcohol. Once again don't care about one's drink choice but this approach did not succeed. Second, the pier was unserviceable. If that is your enjoyment, check to make sure it is operational. If not you may want to move further south to Garden City. The pier in Garden City is operational. Third, you have to take extreme measures to secure your valuables. The second night there, our tents were stolen from behind a blind under the rental house and some of the other occupant's cars were entered and things stolen. The police came and filed a report only after a multiple complaints about the incident. When they arrived we received "tips" on securing our stuff because "this frequently happens." Fourth, be careful driving to avoid the golf carts. They are everywhere and supposed to be off the roads after dark. This is not the case, there were many out after dark and huge safety hazard for automobiles. I am from FL and go to the beach several times a year. With basic care, I have never had anything stolen at the beach, I can park my carcass where I want with my canopy, and the piers are operational. If you want that experience, I would suggest FL over Surfside Beach. read more

My favorite drop in spot for the Grand Strand with plenty of parking, toilets, and showers. Expect to pay to park through the season. This location makes for a great 10mile run if you run up to Myrtle Beach and back, cool down in the ocean with a light swim and then shower off before heading home. Or head south for the same workout. Restroom facilities, showers, and foot-showers can be found at the following beach access points: 3rd Ave. North; Surfside Pier 5th Ave. South; 13th Ave. South Beachside bars/restaurants are basic fare and friendly folks, one hasn't caught my affection yet. read more

My family has stayed in Myrtle, and North Myrtle prior to staying in Surfside Beach this year.We found a rental that my wife's family all split the bill on. We stayed a block and a half from the beach and were there 3-4 out of our 7 days in Surfside Beach. We all enjoyed the beach, it wasn't crowded at all and the cool clean water and mild waves are what bring us to this part of the east coast for beaching. Being from further north where once you enter the water there is a steep drop off, you'll be in waist deep water 10-20 feet from the shore.Versus in the Myrtle beaches area you can go out into the water 150-200 feet from shore and still be in adult waist deep water. It is great for my children, as we don't have to worry near as much about them going out too far. The waves will push you around a bit but again nowhere near as much as on other beaches in VA, MD, DE, or NJ. The beach itself was nice and clean, I noticed quite a few folks walking up and down the beach and even a few local PD patrols in UTVs. Where we were we didn't notice any seagulls or other wildlife that can be annoying at times. Bottom Line we will be back! read more

I love this beach. It is kept clean and is family friendly. There is a little shack on the pier that carries souvenirs, bottled beverages, candies, Tee shirts and the like. Off the Pier is the River City Cafe, notorious for their delicious hamburgers and fries. One thing I do not like is the water run off, dug into the sand, upon entry, directly to your left. Another annoyance is taking away handicapped spaces for golf carts. Golf carts belong on golf courses, which is why they are called "golf carts". There are a number of handicapped people that live in the area, and the 3 spaces allotted does not suffice. Of the 3 handicapped spaces allotted, a trailer is parked in one, leaving two spaces for handicapped people. Why should golf cart drivers be privileged? read more

I did get stung by a jellyfish (a sea nettle, based on some research I did afterwards when trying to figure out how to make my foot stop burning) while boarding, so that's something to be careful of if you can't see your body in chest-deep water. No it's not myrtle beach but it's right next door and the crowd is much nicer! Had a blast at this beach and it's on the same coastline as MB so no worries on that. I had a cheap $5 boogie board and tried to body surf my way through the waves in the ocean. Got slapped in the face by a fish a few times and burnt the sh** out of my back! There's a place called the Marshwalk in Surfside on Merrills Inlet that has a host of 6 bars in a row right on the water. So much fun this place is, tried a rum/mango drink and listened to live country until midnight...... no better way to spend a vacation! Stayed on Plantation resort where the pool and hot tub are open 24/7 and you can bring cans o beer with you! Too much fun at 3am... can't wait to return! read more

One of the nicest beaches on the east coast. Just minutes away from the better known (but far less desirable) Myrtle Beach, Surfside is one of the Grand Strand hidden treasures. Instead of high rises and packed beaches Surfside is mainly houses and smaller condos. The beaches are nice, clean and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy your day. Along Ocean Blvd there are several nice restaurants and bars to keep you satisfied, and two piers to satisfy your fishing needs. The pier at the end of the strip in Garden City also has two bars and an arcade in it. Surfside offers something for everyone minus all the crowds and noise found in Myrtle Beach. read more

Since we vacationed during the off season, I can't say how this beach is during the summer, whether it's super crowded or whatnot, but it was absolutely gorgeous during early November when we visited. We could see the water from the house we were staying in and we took a few nice strolls onto the beach. During our first walk, as soon as we got onto the beach, we noticed a bunch of people riding horses along the shoreline. The horses were gorgeous as they trotted along and the riders all smiled and waved as they went past. The beach made the perfect setting for a bunch of family portraits and we found a bunch of beautiful shells for our collection. Along the paths leading up to the beach, there were some gorgeous smelling bushes that we couldn't figure out. Anyone know what they are? Message me!! read more

We came here after a horrid discovery at our hotel in MB, found a nice reasonable place on the beach and spent a fabulou week here. Far less crowded and dirty than MB. Public parking for the beach was free by our hotel, tons of restrooms and showers. Very family oriented. read more

This was the first time to Surfside beach for me but I will say that I like this area infinitely better then actually Myrtle Beach. The crowd is more family and locals instead of tourist plus the beach itself was never overly crowded. We did not stay on the beach so we ended up paying to park, which costs a $1/hour. We did not stay the whole day so $2 for 4 days was affordable. We will definitely be staying and visiting Surfside again. read more

Wonderful place to vacation and right up the road from Myrtal Beach. Plenty of shopping areas and sun and fun to be found here. Planning on another trip there. Beautiful, in a word. Not 'touristy' per se. We went in October after the season, and it was still warm enough to go in the water, and sunny enough to tan. Water actually clean. (I usually do not go into the water if I am not in the Caribbean) People are friendly, and our dog had a ball. read more

We are staying at South Beach 1 the place was filthy. Furniture all stained. The faucets in the bathroom had tooth paste on it from the last person who stayed here.The pool wasn't cleaned algae covered every inch. Very disappointed especially for what I paid for it. The kitchen is disgusting the burners on the stove were gross. The bathroom upstairs with the king bed the shower curtain was moldy and I stood in ankle deep water because the drain was plugged. Just over all needs a good cleaning. Not a good condition to rent to people when it is the start of the summer renting season. May 2018. read more

This was my first time to Surfside after going to Ocean Isle for over 25 years. I found the beach clean with a family feel. We stayed off the beach a dew miles, so we parked at a public lot for a small fee. The lots were conveniently located, had beach access, showers and spigots for washing off sand, and bathrooms that were not horrible. Overall I would recommend Surfside beach. Next time I go I will look for an on beach rental. read more

Great beach in a nice area. The beach is wide and very clean compared to other beaches in town. There is close and free parking. There is an ice cream place and diner located off the pier. Both are very nice and good. You do have to pay to go on the pier, but it is very affordable and worth walking out. read more
