Myrtle Beach State Park is a fantastic park, it is one of sixteen SC State Parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Opened in 1936 it was the first park to open in the system. The Park is situated in an oceanfront maritime forest with a beautiful beach and stunning oceans views from its free fishing pier. The park offers boardwalks to easily reach the beach as well as outdoor showers to rinse off, there are plenty of bathrooms and changing facilities just a short walk from the beach. With a mile of beach it has six cabins available to rent just several hundred yards from the beach, for those that enjoy camping there are 278 campsites nestled under the towering trees, 138 of them have full-hookups (water, electricity & sewer), there are also 30 designated, seasonal tent sites. There are 2 hiking trails available in the park, both the Sculptured Oak and Yaupon trails lead to the beach. There are 2 gift shops to do all your souvenir shopping or pick up last minute supplies for camping or fishing. There are seven picnic shelters for group gatherings, reunions, etc. The Park has an incredible nature center with programs for kids of all ages. Programs and Guided Tours include fun, engaging and educational programs on a variety of topics and are offered year round to raise awareness about the natural resources of the park. If you are looking to get a little taste of the quieter side of Myrtle, this is the spot for you! We stayed in the cabins, which is very secluded, and had a semi-private beachfront access within a few hundred yards. You could hear the ocean from the porch, and even in the middle of a bustling area, including the occasional aircraft coming in for a landing (which honestly is rather cool!), you still somehow feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The cabins are historic and have stone fire pits, outdoor showers, and we had cornhole tables too! There is tv, cable, WiFi, and a dvd player as well, so your devices should work just fine. The location is great, the park is beautiful, and the staff are friendly and helpful! Worth the price of admission even if you don't stay or camp, but there is a fee to get in, and during peak season, it can overfill, so go early! read more

The first thing I did was buy a South Carolina state park pass $99 for 1 year (or $65 for 1 week) for unlimited entry into the state parks for everyone in your vehicle. Highly recommend buying these passes. It is otherwise $8 per person. There are 3-4 well kept bathrooms throughout the park. Plenty of parking. Outdoor shower/rinsing stations at each entry way onto the beach. Nice place to watch July 4 fireworks as you can see the ones North near the boardwalk and South from Murrell's Inlet and Pawley's island. There are 2 trails within the park, mostly flat but probably not going to be wheelchair accessible as it is regular forest dirt and not paved. There are benches throughout the trail for breaks. Good signage so you won't get lost. Took 20-30 minutes to complete the trail if you're walking at a brisk pace. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful morning at the beach this last Sunday. Arrived around 9:15 am and parked by the camping check-in. Short and easy path to follow to the beach. Wow!!! This beach was pristine! Well maintained and light waves lapping on the shore. A warm breeze and piers in the distance. Families set up with blankets and chairs and umbrellas. Helicopters took off and landed not far from the beach so you could see them in intervals coming in from their tours. A parasailing boat off in the distance was fun to watch as well. A state park pass is needed to enter here or you can pay by the day. Park Rangers were around and visible within the park. Nice place to spend some time in the sunshine! read more

Camping at MB State Park is a great way to visit the beach. There are a LOT of sites; but, most of them have wooded areas/vegetation between them, so it feels like you have privacy. The bath houses were clean and well-stocked, and the showers have plenty of hooks or bench space for use. The staff is friendly and helpful. The trails are beautiful and well-marked with signs about the native flora and fauna. Access to the beach and pier is ample and nicely maintained. Now, my only complaint (and it's a pretty big one) is with the noise. OH MY GOD, the sound of the traffic from King's Highway is insane! Our campsite was on loop 6, which is the back loop. So, we're probably not more than 500m from the highway...however, it sounded like we were camping next to the highway! As we walked around the campground it was clear that the road noise wasn't as bad on the inner loops, so if you can stay closer to the ocean side do it! If not, bring earplugs to find some peace and quiet while you're sitting outside at your loop 6 site. Even given the noise we experienced, I would come back and do recommend this park! Actual rating is 4.5, but I rounded up for the beach access! read more

Several negatives to know before coming here: Staff at gate are rude Lifeguards on duty rude Expensive to get in, pay per person vs vehicle. You cant have canopies of any type. The Karen on duty waited until we got ours all the way up to whistle at us that we had to remove it. However they will rent you one umbrella for $50 so its a nice racket they have going. read more

My stay at this campground was a positive one however I think they could improve on some things. I do like how the staff at the store worked with me so I could stay last minute instead of having to leave, stay at another site, and come back. The staff was very generous and helpful the whole time. The overflow side is not labeled with a sign on the primary road so if you are really trying to find it for the first time, you have to look for it in the map. The one lady at the store office didn't even know where it was. I don't expect much from campground bathrooms but the knobs on the showers need work. Other than that no complaints. Cleanliness is about an 8. I don't like how the road isn't paved like it is on the main campground. I do like how close this side is to the beach. I was able to walk and took 5 min tops. Generally speaking the whole campground is close to the beach. Cell service is very weak, especially on the overflow side and the Wi-Fi wasn't working over there either however it did work on the main side but you will lose it from time to time and have to login again. Only reason I feel this is important is if you have an emergency. Another frustrating thing is when it comes to staying additional nights, the people at the desk only tell you what's available on the in the system. Well what's in the system isn't always what reality is. They said there was no vacancy full capacity but the camper beside me said there were about 2 or 3 sites untouched. It's frustrating when you tell people what's truly going on and they'll believe a computer before a human being. Also there was atleast 1 maybe 2 sites across from me in the overflow lot that did not have a soul in them the whole weekend. Not that I'm complaining because it was less people for me to deal with, but I know if Im trying to get a site and their telling me there's no vacancy when there is I'll probably take my business somewhere else. This severely needs work. Another scenario is if check out is at noon and you reserve the next day for a check in time of 2pm, they will not entertain the idea of checking in earlier so you have to kill 2 hrs. So part of that is my own fault for booking last minute, but it's still frustrating. I'm just going to address the elephant in the room by saying there is a night and day difference between the main campground and the overflow lot. Not only in appearance but the vibe is so much different. An example is when I stayed in the main lot which is $80 a night. I had water and electric for a tent. More importantly my neighbor, which was a retired military pilot, RV owner, very nice one, came over said hello and we had about a 20 min conversation. In addition to this the people driving by waved and said hello. I'm kinda new to camping but like any other hobby I'm sure there's a hierarchy. I didn't feel that on the main side at all, although I know it exists. I stayed in the overflow side over a week and never had an interaction with any of the neighbors. People will stare when you walk by though. Just sayin! According to the people at the store counter the changes are driven by reviews and the survey so I would truly take time to complete this. read more

We drove from Michigan for a six night stay. The campground is a nice quick walk to the beach and the Myrtle Beach area offers a tons of stuff to do and restaurants. The campground itself needs some major improvements. The bathrooms didn't get cleaned the entire weekend. We had to shower with the same dead cockroaches and globs of hair for days. The men's restrooms ran out of toilet paper and were never refilled. The worst part was the raccoons. My kids were stuck in inside as soon as it got dark because they were attacking us. Roasting marshmallows isn't an option here, the raccoons come right up to you and hiss. We contacted the park ranger and we were instructed to not eat outside. This place needs some serious animal control help! read more

They do give discounts or free entry for all other entities such as Coast and National Guards, etc. I wouldn't mind visiting again during off-peak season but I can definitely imagine this park being completely packed during the summer. read more

We camped here 3 nights end of July/early August. Reservations were made online and it was easy to see options for the dates we wanted. Price is affordable. We did get a full hookup site on circle 3. Upon arrival they direct you to the camping check in at the back of the park. The little check in booth is staffed by volunteers and our gentleman was super friendly and gave us all the info we needed. Our site was clean and we had plenty of room. We were close to 2 bathhouses with one also having laundry available. There is a nice camp store. Firewood was $10. Ice $3. There is parking closer to the beach so you don't have to carry all your beach supplies from the camp spots which is appreciated. Showers at the beach for rinsing off. We did see a lifeguard come by a few times. Beach is clean and people were respectful. No one had super loud music or groups being obnoxious. Good family camping location. There is a nature center, walking trail, and pier with another store on site as well. Plus there is a path you can walk/bike/golf cart to the food lion just outside the park. We had a wonderful experience here. Will be back! read more

The Ranger at the entrance was super nice and this is a beautiful park with wooded walking trails, picnic areas, the ocean and beach. We even saw horseback riding. You can easily spend all day here exploring and relaxing. We hope to stay at their campground someday. read more

This is such a great location! We love visiting the State Park each time we visit Myrtle Beach. There is a per person admission gate fee, but if you plan to spend a few hours it's worth the entry fee! It's got a beautiful beach area and fishing pier. Lots of picnic areas, a great shop at the pier and a nice little nature center. Those are all of the things we've experienced so far. But we definitely love coming to this beautiful park for a relaxing afternoon searching for shells, taking beautiful beach and ocean photography and enjoying nature!! They even had horseback riding the day we visited. I believe they allow this only certain days, so it was neat to see! Clean bathrooms are also located near the shop at the pier! read more

What a hidden gem! We loved This park with its expansive beach stretching for long walks, bird watching, people fishing! The bathrooms were SUPER cool and Covid protocols were spot on! There is plenty of parking and picnic tables. Come prepared for a wonderful day of fun. Of course when we went it was too cold to hit the water but it didn't take away the 'walk and play on the beach' experience. We came here to walk our dog on the trails. The trails were very nice but we had to walk them very quickly. The mosquitoes here are rough and if you stopped they would get you. I get bit a lot but my husband doesn't usually and he had several bites. It would have been smart of us to use the Off that was back at the hotel. After our quick trail walk it was early enough to take our dog on the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach before 10AM and after 5PM this time of year. We walked along the beach and then my husband stopped in the gift shop to get a park sticker. It was a nice visit. read more

We just bought our first RV and took our first trip to myrtle beach. We chose to stay at the state park campground and we are so glad we did. The sites have a lot of nature preserved so it feels so much more like camping. They have bathrooms / bath houses all over the campground so they're close to any site and didn't seem crowded. There are also trash and recycling stations positioned all around. I really liked the beach access spots, the trail parallel to the beach, and the state park gift shop. I had to get a tshirt and a bumper sticker for the RV. We had our dog with us so we couldn't walk down the pier, but the gift shop and the pier are a short walk from the campground. We arrived after midnight on Friday night and since they close at 10pm, we were nervous we wouldn't be able to get to our reserved spot but luckily they had a very helpful and pleasant staff member stationed at the gate that let us in and gave us directions to our site. We will definitely come back as often as we can. read more

We just came back from a 4 night stay at Myrtle Beach State Park and I do feel like although it's definitely a 5 star experience there are a few things that must be noted. When we checked in this time, the park hostess reminded us of 3 rules. No alcohol, lock food away because the raccoons will eat it and wear closed toed shoes at night because of snakes. 1.) The raccoons were not a joke, one was out and about at 2:30 in the afternoon smelling and checking out campsites. And even when we cooked an early dinner around 4, he came over and we had a hard time getting rid of him. So just something to keep in mind, don't leave food at all anytime, and be watchful for sneaky ones! 2.) Our first night my husband and I walked to bathrooms and on the way back we spotted a baby copperhead in the woods. We were wearing appropriate shoes, but woke us up, since we didn't see any last time. Also 2 days later we took a walk on the paths in the park and we did encounter a copperhead again, this time an adult. (if you don't know, copperheads are different from most snakes that they don't take off they freeze where they are and are venomous). A picture of him is attached. It shouldn't deter you from any adventures, just something to keep in mind and be careful wearing sandals! They have signs about proper footwear by the bathrooms. And last thing to be noted 3.) While swimming at the beach in the appropriate areas we did see a fin go by. And later when on the pier the sharks were all the buzz! The park was aware, and the "marine life" flag was not up. So DO NOT SWIM ANYWHERE NEAR THE FISHING PIER! These are just reminders that if you are camping and going to the area without having been there are some things to keep in mind. It is definitely the best of both worlds you can camp, enjoy nature and enjoy the beautiful beach. The fishing pier is relaxing even if you don't fish (if you do $5 for fishing license for day). Also a huge bonus, you get to go to Huntington State Beach park for free during the day with your camping pass. Definitely worth a check out they have features that are worth it (beach, nature boardwalks, and Atalaya ($2 a person)) read more

Myrtle Beach State Park - Copperhead on trail around 9:30am at the end of May! - Parks Near Me - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Since I live in Minnesota, I have never been to a state park that boasts such a beautiful beachfront property before! We came here while just walking down the beach and happened to come upon the pier, which you can actually walk on for free! You can also obtain a fishing license and equipment to go fishing off the pier if you would like. If you want to see a shark, they love to hang out under the pier eating the fishermen's scraps, very cool to see! We talked to some of the locals and found out that you can catch a good variety of fish. You also have amazing chances to see dolphins, sharks, jellyfish, and sea turtles in their natural habitats from off of the pier. All of the locals on the pier were very friendly and we could have chatted to them for hours if we had the time but we had to keep moving to see all of the sites. If you moved off of the beach, there was also a few walking trails that would take you through an example of a wild beachside Carolina forest. We were able to watch a White Heron hunt in a swampy section of the trail and saw a couple of local bird and reptile species while on the walk. Lots of fun, interactive information is displayed throughout the area including a good bit about sea turtles. I guess a lot of turtles call this beach home during the summer season. If you are wanting to shop or feel like ice cream, the gift shop onsite will have you covered. Very fun little stop on the south side of Myrtle Beach that is worth a visit, especially with the great views you can get from the pier. read more

Today was another beach day while on vacation! We are notorious beach hoppers. While chatting with some locals the day earlier, we learned the state park had a great beach and was likely less crowded than the other beaches. There is a small cost to enter and park, however once inside you can wander through the park. We went straight to the back which opened up to the beach. There were shelters everywhere and easy access to bathroom and outdoor showers. The beach was clean and not very populated. There were signs to watch for the rip tides and alerts were elevated this day so we stayed near the sand. We spent and hour watching a storm coming in and took for granted how quickly it would get to us so there was some running and screaming at some point. The storm was gone as quickly as it came. Two things here. The park itself is really nice, it's clean, mostly well kept and easy beach access. The campground however is a different story, it's very very outdated, small, very narrow one way streets that aren't big rig friendly. $8 per person is outrageous. I went with my family of 4 at 7pm. The park closes at 9pm. $32 dollars?! Not being from this state I questioned the amount. I'n my state we pay per car. I guess that was the wrong thing to do as the older gentleman just shook his head at me and acted like I was annoying him. Then I saw a sign that children were $4, which I had two with me. So I asked him and he again just kept shaking his head at me stating I should have mentioned that because there were 4 signs on my way in that stated the prices. He gave me some money back while rolling his eyes at me. Not at all welcoming, and I will not be back. If you don't like your job, then quit. read more

We stayed in cabin 5 in April. The cabin itself was very clean and well equipped. We had lots of towels and wash cloths. There were extra blankets and the beds were comfortable. There are two rooms and each has a full size bed. There is also a pull out couch. The cabin is secluded and somewhat far from campsites. We wanted to hang with our camper owning family but definitely felt separated. The beach is very convenient. I loved having a screened in porch. The playgrounds were fun for my kids. The pier offers gorgeous views. All the rangers I encountered were kind and helpful. If you come make sure you have paper towels, salt, pepper, all those little things you take for granted for having on hand at home. There are dishes, utensils, pots and pans, etc but not other consumable basics. My only complaints are small. My reservation email mentioned calling if you wanted early check in. I realized we were going to arrive about 90 minutes before the 4PM checkin. I called hours before to ask if I could come early and was immediately told no with no request for more details. We ended up stopping at South of the Border to kill time. I then arrived at 3:45 PM and was told not to go directly to the cabin and to wait until 4. It felt petty. The checkin already super late and the checkout is early at 10AM. You're expected to wash all the dishes, clean the cabin, and strip the beds but nothing too extreme as far as checkout. Next, it's right by the airport and the planes are loud all hours. Finally, I found the campsite area confusing and hard to maneuver. It's fairly expensive to stay ($566 for three nights) but compared to other accommodations in the area you really can't beat it. Location is close to all the major attractions. I love that I could hear the waves crashing once the campground went quiet for the night. I would definitely come back! read more
