We decided on the yellow and blue trail in waccamaw wildlife refuge. Reviews i had read from other sources stated that they had seen lots of wildlife over off this trail. The trail was pretty secluded and felt set back away from everything. There were so many trees! Absolutely loved it! We walked on a blanket of pine needles for a good chunk of the trail and then on a boardwalk for part of the trail. Saw lots of spider webs, some caterpillars, lots of lizards, some birds, and then a squirrel. The trail was quiet on a friday morning, we only saw a handful of people. It was a lovely stroll in nature and one of the highlights of the trip. It definitely made me want to come back to south carolina to come and explore with some friends and really go and see more of the beauty!

There are also interactive displays and quite a few stuffed examples of local wildlife. There are maps and displays of the surrounding protected wetlands which lie between the PeeDee and Waccamaw rivers. There aren't any walking trails at this location but the staff can direct you to the ones that are part of this beautiful area. I believe they have kayak tours that launch from here. If in the area you should stop in and check it out.
