Had lunch in Oct 2024 so very quiet then. Friendly service and a beautiful view, from somewhat worn dining room.

It's a lovely hotel right on the water, with great food and a variety of drinks. The staff are very friendly, and their cosmo is a must try!

The deep fried pickles are always good and crispy (we already ate 4 of them before taking a pic), this was the first time having the Black and Blue salad with chicken (absolutely delicious and filling, there was enough for two), and the plain Jane Burger is always good and fills the craving for a good burger. The service and atmosphere is great.

Wonderful olde English atmosphere. Very good selection of beers on tap. Staff is very helpful in setting up patrons with dishes that allow for dietary restrictions (like gluten intolerance). What I particularly liked is that they were able to make fish and chips for me that was panko breaded rather than battered. I know battered fish and chips is the 'English' way, but few restaurants this side of the Atlantic get battered fish right. All too often it's too much batter, or the fish is really greasy. I didn't feel like taking a chance, so the kitchen breaded my fish and it was really nicely done. The bread pudding is also a standout. THE THORNS: None worth mentioning. THE VERDICT: Fox and Hounds is one of those rare pubs that puts as much (or more?) thought into their food as they do their beer. It's a wonderful 'little bit 'o Britain' in the quiet backwater town of Ladysmith BC Highly recommend!

If you don't get attacked by the wasps in the late summer the outdoor picnic table area is sensational. Give it a try just be aware of the menu and it might just be your cup of tea ha ha

It was so intriguing that we decided to make the five minute drive next door, just to have lunch. Set near the water on the local resort, the restaurant looked like a converted mansion from the olden days, so it was real treat for me. All the windows were open which provided a nice cool summer breeze (so effective that we had to wear our jackets). There was also plenty of picnic table seating outside, and quite a number of folks chose to brave the winds to eat there. The hubby eventually settled on the generously sized Mac and Cheese while I went for the equally generous portioned Popcorn Shrimp. Between the shrimp, house salad and fries, it was a very satisfying meal. The shrimp claw and fries were deep fried just right, and I had enough house salad to feel like I was trying to be healthy. I tried a bit of the rich and creamy mac and cheese (mouthwateringly delicious), and I felt the portion was big enough and rich enough for two meals. It felt like it was good value and portioned pub food for the price you pay. If you are staying at the nearby resorts in Parksville, definitely worth a trip there!

We showed up around 6pm on a Saturday for dinner without a reservation. Apparently that was a mistake; luckily, they were able to seat us at a hot top table by the bar. They advertised vegan cheese for the pizzas, which is what prompted us to eat here. Pizzas come in 10" or 14". We got a 14" of The Gabriola Sands ($29) and a salad of the day ($20), plus a couple of drinks. The food came out in about 30 minutes. The salad was basic: arugula, some other greens, a few blueberries, a few toasted pecans, and a light honey balsamic glaze. Fine, but insultingly priced given how basic and insubstantial the portion was. The pizza was a typical veggie pizza, but the base seemed like it wasn't cooked long enough -- rather soggy and lacking any crispness. The toppings were somewhat generous. $29 for this was also rather insulting given how basic the pizza was. Super friendly service though and a really nice spot on the island. Too bad the food quality and value don't match.
