A GORDON RAMSAY NIGHTMARE! - Way overpriced for mediocre pub food - The rubbish looking outdoor exterior is your first clue to go elsewhere - arrived at their accepted reservation time - 30 minute wait to be seated, no apology or welcome offered - showed to a nasty table, moved to another - took 40 minutes to get a round of drinks - took food over an hour to show up - food served barely hot on cold plates - dirty washroom Never again. There are many better competing pubs in the area. We went to one the next day. It was glorious. Now you know. read more

Pretty bad experience here. The chalk board in the foyer listed a Belgian Ale as the special of the day, and my friend and I both ordered it. Unfortunately, we were served two Mexican Lagers instead. After patron at a neighboring table also ordered the same beer, but was given something entirely different, not a lager, but also not the expected ale. Both the server and the bartender were friendly but totally incompetent. The bartender said she never even looks at the specials chalk board in the foyer, which is actually a necessity for her job, and that they were out of the ale and were given the new revolving beer. The lager I was given had soured a bit as well. Whenever I'm traveling and find fish and chips made with cod I get the plate, as I did at this establishment. Both me and one other person who ordered the fish and chips agreed that it was not cod at all. It had none of the characteristics of cod, and the beer batter was not flakey but overcooked, hard and crunchy. Nice ambiance however. read more

we showed up at 7:30 and they close at 9 and they told us to get lost, terrible service would not go back

The weather is warming up and after a morning of yard work, it was time for a cold one with lunch. Ordered the Deep fried pickles, Black and Blue Salad and the Plain Jane Burger along with cold beverages. The deep fried pickles are always good and crispy (we already ate 4 of them before taking a pic), this was the first time having the Black and Blue salad with chicken (absolutely delicious and filling, there was enough for two), and the plain Jane Burger is always good and fills the craving for a good burger. The service and atmosphere is great. read more

English style pub is a cut or two above the rest, thanks to good food and a helpful staff. THE ROSES: If you're an Anglophile, Fox and Hounds is a great pub to visit. Wonderful olde English atmosphere. Very good selection of beers on tap. Staff is very helpful in setting up patrons with dishes that allow for dietary restrictions (like gluten intolerance). What I particularly liked is that they were able to make fish and chips for me that was panko breaded rather than battered. I know battered fish and chips is the 'English' way, but few restaurants this side of the Atlantic get battered fish right. All too often it's too much batter, or the fish is really greasy. I didn't feel like taking a chance, so the kitchen breaded my fish and it was really nicely done. The bread pudding is also a standout. THE THORNS: None worth mentioning. THE VERDICT: Fox and Hounds is one of those rare pubs that puts as much (or more?) thought into their food as they do their beer. It's a wonderful 'little bit 'o Britain' in the quiet backwater town of Ladysmith BC Highly recommend! read more

Super delicious food and excellent stuff. I was actually there twice in three days and both times were excellent. Highly highly recommend. We had multiple meals my guests and I and everyone was happy with their meal. read more

Very, very friendly service. Like standout. Adorable decor, good drink, FANTASTIC sticky toffee pudding. 8/10 comfort for inside chairs. Didn't get to peep the bathrooms. Was told they have a sister bar called The Black Goose with an incredible waterfront outdoor space. read more

We had a group of 20 for a Christmas party and our waitress was amazing! Food was excellent and ambiance is the best! Highly recommend!

Great food, great atmosphere! Real nice to see the traditional pub food. I'll be a regular in 2024

Food was great, seafood chowder top notch and everything I have tried has been very good. Service also was excellent .

The best seafood salad I have ever had. My hubbie's Shepherds Pie was just as delicious!

Being a traditional British Pub, you order first at the bar and they will bring your food to your table. Food portions are above-average without sacrificing quality. Their seafood pie is a must-try if you like chowder. read more

Delicious dinner! Had the Steak and Mushroom pie with a Caesar Salad, absolutely yummy! Also had the Scottish Jäegermeister - my new favourite drink I will be back next time I'm in Ladysmith. read more

We had dinner tonight at the fox and hound. We have eaten there numerous time in the past, and the food and drink were amazing. This was the first time since Covid 19. And I have to say I was totally disappointed. We always have the same meal as they are our favorites. My husband had the seafood pie which he said was wonderful. My fish and chips and my drink ( Ceasar) were well below par. My drink was tasteless and watered down, I sent it back for a new one and it was no better. My fish was bland and the coating was mushy. My chips were cold and the slaw was tasteless as well. My drink was taken off the bill but it was still a high price for a disappointing meal. The service was outstanding as always LMS read more

The Fox & Hounds provided a beverage stop for us, during a short walkabout of Ladysmith, as we travelled south to Victoria recently. Daughter and I were seeking a flight of tasters, but they were not to be found there, so at the server's suggestion, we settled for sharing two 10oz brews, and Mom with some ice-water. -- Longwood Dunkelweizen - a German style dark wheat ale. -- Inn(i)s & Gunn Original - a Scottish ale aged in oak barrels, with a whiskey aftertaste. Two very tasty brews (especially the Scottish ale - loved the whiskey 'kick' at the end!!), and cold water ... yum to all three! An enjoyed stop. read more

I had the Shepherd's Pie and a Guinness, both at half-size, which is a really great option at a restaurant. All pies come with bread, butter and a side salad. The pie was full of generous chunks of burger, peas and carrots, gravy and topped with great tasting, real mashed potato. It was very good and satisfying, and like all British (and Canadian) food it can do with a splash of salt and pepper. The Guinness is at proper temp and sat before being served, so I'm a happy camper. The atmosphere is easy and quiet at an early hour on Wednesday night. You choose your own table and order at the bar, and they'll serve you at the table. I see music speakers set up in the corner, so I'm a bit sad that I wasn't here for a music night! read more

I have eaten here three times when visiting family on The Island. I love it! So British. Wonderful decor. At Christmas they go all out with the decorations. We eat the steak and Stilton pie. Also the hot buttered rum. Worth a drive to get here. Cheers! read more

Excellent British pub fare with many great choices beverages. Relaxing subdued lighting. Quick attentive service. One of our favourites!

The atmosphere and presentation of food was great! I ordered Jalepeno poppers, yam fries and shrimp for appys. The shrimp appy was very tasty and the jalepeno poppers lacked texture because of the watery cheese. My dip was huge but lacked flavour. read more

This pub has a real homey feel to it. The people are super nice as well which is always a bonus. The format here is you have to order your food and drinks at the bar but we didn't feel this too away from the experience at all. They have a great selection of locally brewed beer plus others. We started with the smoke salmon mousse and artichoke dip. Both were good but the mousse was over the top! Our party had the halibut fish & chips - great, seafood pie - good, and steak & mushroom and blue cheese pie. The meat pie was pretty good but I thought the blue cheese was overpowering. The meat was so tender and the sauce was so good. I would recommend if u like blue cheese otherwise get the one without the cheese. read more

My wife and I stopped in on our recent visit to the area. Friendly atmosphere and great food. I ordered the Scotch Egg appetizer which is the best I've had. This itself would feed 3-4 persons as an appy. Also had the Steak and Mushroom pie. Piping hot, loaded with meat, mushrooms and flavor. My wife had the curry which was not spicy which she preferred. Recommended. read more

Excellent pub food and friendly service. Good live music without cover is a nice bonus. Cool beer selection - try the Innis & Gunn for something delicious and different! Short walk from the community marina, although it's somewhat uphill... The good news is that you go downhill on the way back after drinks! read more

We were at a private party for 20 people. The reservation was booked in advance so not a drop in. Our food took over an hour to come out. The meals were brought out over 20 minutes so we did not eat together. The food was good but the wait was inexcusable. read more

Really enjoy this pub. Great food and beers. I tried the Shepards pie and it was great. Highly recommend.

This place is just a cut above. The barmaid was very professional and friendly. I had the steak and kidney pie and it was most excellent. The room is great. All the things you would expect in a British pub. The chairs do not have arms which I find , once again , most excellent. Older crowd when I was there but I am older so I fit right in. I am coming back for sure. read more
