No one briefed us on this but we were charged $35 because we broke the umbrella and should have known how to face it. Multiple people on the beach had the same issue! Seems like a shady business practice. I opted to take the "broken" umbrella since I already paid for it... on top of the $10 rental fee. Nowhere on the contract did it say I was responsible for incorrect placement of the umbrella. Honestly I'd rather leave it for the owner of our condo because the base is better than the one supplied by the condo. Seemed like a money grab from tourists. So be wary.

They watched what we were doing closely and gave really helpful, specific tips after each attempt to point out what we were doing wrong and how to fix it. Their feedback made a big difference and helped us improve quickly. They were also very thoughtful with my son. On both days, the instructors carried his surfboard down to the beach for him, which made things much easier and showed how attentive they were. Another thing that stood out was that they provided both rash guards and booties. From what I saw when looking at other companies, many seemed to provide rash guards but not booties, so that was a nice extra that made the experience more comfortable in the water. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for surfing lessons.

My son was set up with a really nice group of kids his own age, they provided him with surf shoes and a really nice 8' soft top longboard. Half of the class was spent learning the equipment, safety tips, and basic etiquette. The second half was showing them how to stand up and ride waves on the first day. My kid is now a confident longboarder. Dad and Junior both had an absolute blast. 5 stars. Would definitely use this company again!

We had an awesome time with Jeff on the Wailua river. Jeff met me and my family and took us out on…read morethe river for me to try foiling (I've been windsurf foiling but wanted to get into prone or sup foiling). Jeff had a foil board for me and surfboard and boogie board for my kids to have fun too. We went up the river with me foiling at times and falling many. We stopped at Fern Grotto and had a spectacular view with just us. I did some more foiling heading back down the river and with some good pointers from Jeff, managed a couple really good foil runs. We then got my daughter behind the boat on a boogie board and she had a blast. Overall it was a great time and gave me some really good experience. Jeff is super knowledgeable and made sure I was on the correct foil equipment to match my weight and skill.

Finally, his lessons on Poipu Beach are at a great break that is very good for beginners to learn. While on Kauai I noticed other surf schools doing all of these wrong, but not Aloha Surf Lessons. If you take your lesson early in your stay, be sure to come back and rent a board from Aloha and practice. Chava and the other instructors will continue to give you advice and feedback when they're in the water.

Plenty of parking (gets busy during sunset so come a bit early). There are clean restrooms and lifeguards on both ends of the beach. Monk seals and turtles come very morning to sunbathe and you can see tons of turtles in the evening as well. It's got shaded picnic tables and grassy areas as well. Also has a nice protected area if you have little kids. Be mindful that the waves can be crazy during the afternoon but that made for a fantastic day at the beach for me. I came here 5-6 times, some times alone in the morning when my family was still sleeping and sometimes with everyone for a beach day. Be prepared to wait for a long time if you plan to get puka dog for lunch which is across from the beach. There are also lunch options in the shopping area 5 min drive (or 15 min walk) near by. Right along The Sheraton Kaua'i Resort Villas where I was staying, I haven't had a day-long beach day for awhile, and I really needed a day just to recharge, refresh, and regenerate my body, mind, and soul. Having been ranked as one of the top beaches in the U.S. over the years, was there anything to poo-poo about Poipu Beach!? EXPERIENCE The word "poipu" in the Hawaiian language meant "crashing waves" and was actually two beaches in one. A "tombola" (known as Nukumoi Point) separated the two bays, and in this case it was a narrow sand spit that extended from the shore to an island. This particular area was a favorite spot for endangered napping Hawaiian monk seals. The area on the western side of the beach was a favorite for beginner bodyboarders while small waves broke gently on the shallow sandbar created a fun area for children to play. The area on the eastern side of the beach was a lava rock-protected and shallow spot for swimmers and another play area for families with small children. On this comfortable sunny day, what was initially a quiet beach progressively got crowded and noisy as the day wore on. I swam for hours back and forth past the shorebreak along the coast, took breaks to drink water and eat a snack, napped, read, and then went back out with snorkel gear in hand. An exhausting exhilarating stress-free day - perfection! SERVICE Specifically on this section of the beach, there weren't any bathrooms nor lifeguard stations. Generally speaking, there weren't any facilities whatsoever except for what the adjacent Sheraton Kaua'i Resort Villas may offer. It was a completely open public beach - 'nuff said. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) I had no vehicle, so I simply walked from my room. However, there was a nightly $40.00 fee for guests who stayed at the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort Villas if they parked on the property, and there might've been some free parking along the many nearby roads and streets. Make sure to carefully read any posted signs. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE I made a spot directly out past the middle opening from the resort's pool and the sand, the beach was clean and smooth, somewhat spacious, and fairly empty early-on but no shady trees to deflect the sunlight. There was a lone monk seal https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=xDFNXkdOMhOO9W7Nv7YtuA which was a protected specie, so people must please stay away. Sizable waves were much further out, this beach was perfect for light water activity (no real surf breaks while snorkeling was better once you got considerably past the shore break). No benches, chairs, or tables, so bring your own chairs or towels to lay or sit on. Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting with only the glowing stars left to guide you when nighttime came. However, on this given weekend, I was thankful for the peacefulness and solitude. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, there was no need for funds of any kind which included my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Located at the end of Maalo Road, this beautiful double waterfall cannot be safely or legally…read moreaccessed due to the notoriously steep, muddy, and very slick unmaintained trail down. But you can however view it safely from the designated roadside lookout. The parking lot here, although free, is very small and often filled to the brim with cars. The lot itself is also in desperate need of maintenance as it is filled with potholes, so getting in and out may be tricky. There are also vendors who fill up the front part of this lot, which further add to the chaos. Located in a sacred royal valley once known as the capital of Kauai, ancient Hawaiian chieftains and warriors use to test their bravery by leaping from the top of this nearly 200ft tall waterfall. There's not a lot to do once you get up to the top of the lookout except to snap a few photos. So it is debatable if it is worth the drive all the way out to here and dealing with the whole parking lot situation.

I' m a fan of Rochelle and her team!!! I booked a surf adventure with her prior I came over to Kauai, which included surf lessons, yoga lesson, massages, SUP Yoga, a hike and lunches! AMAZING!!! Everything. I never stood on a board before and only after 2 sessions with her and Kaipo Jaquias, I was able to stand up and keep being up! It totally got me and due to the only positive experience from the very first moment, I never resignated! So I booked more 1-1 sessions with her and Kaipo on top of my other programm. And I would call myself a Surfer now! The Yoga session was a real treat, she is extremly knowledgable, and so the massages. She cured my sore shoulders (thanks to paddling) and she showed me hidden places, which were just stunning. Lunches were excellent and also the SUP Yoga just a pleasure in beautiful nature. Actually I shorten my stay at Hawaii island just to continue sessions with her and Kaipo! So I came back to Kauai to spend my very last days there and continue surf training and yoga with them. I recommend her for everyone who seriously wants to learn surfing and really wants to have a great experience in Kauai on land and ocean. After a class with Surf into Yoga you can do it! Surfing and practicing yoga with Rochelle has been a tremendously valuable and healing experience. After 10 years of sitting in front of a computer, my back and neck are destroyed, and I desperately needed to restore both my physical and mental health. I recently quit my stressful corporate office job and went to Kaua'i for a private yoga/surf retreat with Rochelle. Rochelle's deep knowledge of and passion for the body really manifested during our first yoga session, when she immediately identified holding patterns and tensions throughout my body. All the yoga and body work we did was seamlessly integrated in our surf sessions as well. We surfed PK's and Kalapaki and had an amazing time with Rochelle and Milo. They genuinely care about their clients and are such passionate surfers who really know the waters around the island. They are high on life, and their energy was contagious! What an amazing experience, I am a seasoned traveler and can easily say this was a trip of a lifetime. My niece (26 years old) and I (52 years old) spent a week on Kauai with Rochelle on a Wellness Adventure. It was a wonderful balance of adventure, relaxation and personal time. Rochelle put together a personal plan for each of us, with lots of surfing for my niece (who stood on her first attempt!) and many amazing body treatments for me. We started a few mornings with an invigorating Yoga session looking out to the Ocean, followed by quick dip in the Ocean and a relaxing massage. Other highlights included making Sushi with Chef Jason in our rental house and a hike through Waimea Canyon that can only be described as breathtaking. Rochelle's passion for wellness and holistic approach combined with her teaching ability make her an excellent yoga teacher. I have practiced many forms of yoga with many instructors and I was delighted to learn new movements from her. I felt like I had been massaged after my yoga session, then went on to have an actual massage the next day. I am a middle-aged competitive swimmer and I could tell Rochelle knows well where muscles hold tension and how to release it. I had been running ragged from life stress and travel and the massage helped me downshift and enjoy deep restorative sleep. It is worth noting that her studio looks out onto a beautiful Kauai rainforest. If listening to air moving through the forest is relaxing to you, you will love this space. I had the most amazing massage with Rochelle at her beautiful home surrounded by nature. It was so relaxing but also got out lots of knots. Rochelle then took me and some colleagues out surfing for 2 hours. She is a wonderful teacher and her colleague Jeremy was excellent too. They took us to a great spot to learn and made sure all of us were standing by the end and that we all caught as many waves as possible. They were constantly guiding us and giving us great tips throughout the lesson. Rochelle is very professional and flexible letting us book the night before and even accommodating a last minute change to our number of people. I highly recommend this unique experience to first time surfers and if I ever come back to Kauai I will definitely be doing her yoga/surf/hike/massage package. Thanks again!! read more

I was referred to Rochelle at SIY by my accommodations agent. The response was swift and very supportive. As a guy with big build I always look to have a strong male massage therapist. Rochelle connected me with Chris who was hands down one of the most incredible therapists I've ever had. I get massage on average once each week. Chris killed it! Intuitive... kind... strong. And Rochelle made the experience turn key and easy... even when I flaked on one appointment, acting like a tourist!, and she was able to accommodate me through her system with very last minute notice. We recently booked private surf lessons for our children through Surf Into Yoga. We have been in the surfing world for awhile so we are pretty picky about who we choose to take our kids out to the break. Rochelle's team was amazing! Kaimana was incredibly skilled, patient, and encouraging, so much so that we went back again and again. And, Kaipo was so supportive and kind that he made us all feel like we were a part of his ohana. Rochelle and her team of professionals were amazing to be with. We had 4 children under the age of 12 and they were all paddling into waves by themselves and standing up rising waves by the end of the day. I think the class happens every Tuesday/Thursday at 8:30AM and the fee was 20$ each. They provide some mats to share and recommend you cover them with a beach towel. The teaching included an opening meditation as well as a flow and some closing stretches. I would say the class was all-levels and appropriate for beginner yogis, and I think more advanced students could adjust as they see fit to do more challenging poses as well as enjoy the mindfulness opportunity of being near the ocean. I think everyone would enjoy this beautiful class with the delightful Anya. She also taught in combination with her fiance, which was very pleasant. I would recommend this class as a nice peaceful thing to do while visiting the beautiful garden isle of Kauai.

On my last day, I brought my 64-year-old mom. She told me that she was happy that she wasn't the only person her age in the class. During the same class, we celebrated the birthday of someone who had just turned 18. You'll definitely sweat during class, but everyone does. And it feels great when you walk out of class.

I am currently on the one year unlimited membership, which I highly recommend for people who live in the area. People visiting Kauai come to classes too. I went on yelp and found Barre Up Fitness, checked the website out and found a deal for $10 first class. Booked the first class, but got lost the first time since Im a tourist and dont know my way around. I called the number and spoke with Lisa. I was greeted by her kindness and compassion and let me tell you, she went above and beyond for me. She kindly clarified the location and set me up for a class the next morning. Even texting me and giving me in writing where to go, and wishing me well. The next morning, I got lost again, but i was closer to the destination. I called her and she quickly ran out to meet me and walk me inside making sure I wouldn't get lost. Upon meeting Lisa, you feel how kind and warm she is, eager to accommodate, and make sure I was comfortable. I was the only one in class that morning, and felt bad she came all that way just for me. She expressed every students is important to her, and she recognizes the time and effort I made to meet her so even, her personal rule of thumb is if it is just 1 person she will come. She is so sincere, and has a great recharging spirit. I told her I was used to Hot Pilates and she turned off the AC for me to taylor the experience for me. The class was "Barre", the Mat, weights, band was all set up and ready for me. Her instructions are clear, and her transitions are seamless. She made sure I had the right form so I wouldn't hurt myself, and would check if I was comfortable. I got a great workout and felt SOO good after. People really need to know about her!! If she was in instructor where I live in California, her classes would be Jam packed. I look forward to attending her class again when I visit Kauai. 100/10 If you're visiting, or a local contemplating on trying her class out, please don't hesitate. Do your mind and body a favor and go sign up.

A group of friends and myself trekked our way to the beach and we were welcomed by friendly Abhi. We placed our mats by the beach and he led us through a wonderful one hour, 15 minute class which included stretching, meditation, and some challenging poses. I attend yoga when I am at home in San Francisco a fair amount (I like vinyasa yoga with a bit of challenge), and Abhi's class was one of my favorite yoga classes that I have ever taken. He was a great instructor and kept the class relaxing and engaging; never once did I feel bored or that it was too difficult. He has a very calm presence and helps you out with your poses as well. I definitely recommend taking his class if you're in Kauai - it's a great workout to start or end a beautiful day on the island! Thank you, Abhi, for amazing yoga on the beach!
