When it looks like something is too good to be true, trust your gut. I was drawn in to their incredibly low priced internet plans, but the experience reflects it. Ahead of time when you purchase a plan you select potential install dates. They missed all 3 dates I chose and did not communicate with me at all the whole time I had to pester them and ask what was going on. Moreover once I told them it was critical I connect to an internet provider since I work from home and would be taking my business elsewhere they finally "activated" the internet line. Well, too little too late because I already had SAME DAY Shaw internet set up, so I asked for my full refund. I had purchased the "full year" plan where your install fee are to be waived, BE CAREFUL, if you cancel the service before this time period is up they will not only keep your install fee (WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WAIVED ANYWAYS ON A FULL YEAR PLAN), plus the shipping fee. It is listed in the fine print under see terms and conditions. Including taxes they kept about $111 from me. And I never even used an ounce of their wifi from the beginning because they were too slow on installing it in the first place. The company policy is unyielding and they will not take into consideration your circumstances even if they were 100% in the wrong. Please, save yourself the headache and take your business to a bigger, reputable internet provider. It will save you time and stress. read more

I signed up for the 75 download service for $40/mo. The year went by okay. They had a promo for 300 service for $50 a month so why not? A few months in, after I upgraded my modem for faster speeds, they raised the price 40% to $70 per month. All this while previous ads promised NO INCREASES! The only thing they offered was to go back to 75 service at the old rate. The reviews here and with the BBB are abysmal. Surf sucks. read more

If you are already with this company or are planning to switch, watch your bills VERY CLOSELY. I have their Internet 25 Plan and pay the yearly rate for the best deal. When renewal came around, the new invoice charged me for Internet 75 even though I had never asked for an increase. I unfortunately didn't pay close enough attention at the time so paid the full amount for Internet 75 even though that is not what I asked for and not what I was receiving (the line has never had that speed). Now, they refuse to credit the difference, immediately putting the blame on me. Either stay away or be prepared for some of the worst customer service you have ever experienced...and that is say a lot having once been a Shaw customer. read more

Surf does not allow you to use old/previously used modems that work fine. They force you to buy new ones from them. They also do not buy back your modem when you finish up with them so it must be thrown out (there is no essentially resale economy for these). This is incredibly burdening to the environment and your wallet and honestly it makes my blood boil. read more

Surf internet accepted my modem after consulting their technical team, requested me to pay the fees ahead. However just before installation they said my modem will not work, and compelled me to buy their modem for $85. I requested a full refund since they lied to me. Very pathetic service. read more

In contrast to other reviewers I've had really good service. There were a couple of glitches in the days around set up - the technician (from one of the majors - not their own employee) arrived at one of the pre-arranged times but didn't alert us that he was coming. It took a day to get our VOIP working both in and out. But apart from that we've had perfect service. Although the internet speed is advertized as the same as what we got from Telus, it is far faster. The VOIP phone connection sounds no different from our former land line. And the cost: we are saving $100 a month for better service. They even phoned us four or five times to be sure everything was working fine. Would recommend them without hesitation. read more

Surf Internet, had them for 3 years. 1. Excellent service, the internet is very stable (comparable with shaw and telus) 2. I don't have to worry about calling every few month to try to get a discount, Surf always give me the best price in the market 3. I had an issue one time, the issue was in the wifi router. 4 attempts to meet up to get the connection up and running with Surf either not showing up nor getting the connection active. When the connection was finally activated, it was done so at such an unaccpetable level for download/upload/basic internet surfing, we gave up on them, and immediately returned the modem. From the time we started to deal with them until we gave up was 12 days. Despite never getting an acceptable connection they charged us for the activation and a processing fee. They were arrogant and argumentative the whole way through the process to boot. Stay away from this company!!!!!!! read more

I've used their service since November 2016 and can't recommend them at all. Yes, the service is cheaper, but once they have you signed up and your money, they don't care about you. Their customer service is zero and when you can get a response, you realize they know nothing. The first modem they gave me, which was used, failed after a few months. The second one, also used, fared better. Then I decided to change to their 75mps from the 30mps since it was the same price. They charged me $166 for another modem, which was used, as well as new installation even though I had them deliver the modem to my work since it's just plug and play, right? Wrong. After a couple hours, I emailed them only to find out that though they delivered this modem, the service wasn't activated for it yet. They would definitely let me know ... even though they had at no time told me this ... when it was active. Two days later, I arrive home to find I have no internet and, after again a couple hours of fiddling, email them only to find out the new service is activated and they didn't tell me! That modem turned out to be crap nor was I receiving 75mps and my Internet was crashing several times a night. After several days of no response, I filed a BBB complaint. They responded that I had only emailed once the day before filing. A lie which I could prove since I saved them all. They said I didn't give my account number. True, but they have only asked for that once before and can track customers by email. They said that they had performed a test that showed I was receiving the 75mps I paid for. A lie which I was able to prove by taking screenshots of speed tests on both my wifi and wired connection. Still I told BBB I would respond as they asked. I sent them a new complaint, with my account number, with the screenshots. After another day, they responded that they would swap the modem. The swap took place yesterday. The new modem looks brand new. However, I took it home, plugged it in and have no online light, no Internet. After two hours, they finally responded to my email: "We see the modem is connected. However it is downloading and getting its provisioning done. This process takes a hours to complete. Please leave it connected and it should be online by tomorrow before end of day." I'm not new to networking. Never, not even with theirs, have I ever had a modem "provision" before going online. You plug it in, you attach the cable and it goes online. Another lie. Again, they have not responded to any further emails and as of this morning, still no Internet. If you want cheap prices and don't mind zero customer service, go with them. I say, pass them on by. Going back to Shaw is better than this. I will be filing a new BBB complaint. read more

Surf internet is fine for me. I haven't had any customer service needs however, in the year I've been with them. So that is perhaps why I've been fine with them. I have had slow wifi because I live in a building, but twice I've fixed the problem myself by going to an ethernet cable, which brought my speed up to full, immediately. The price is quite high for the first month, but otherwise I am paying about a third of what I was paying, which was about 120 plus tax for internet and phone. I was paying 30$ for the phone, but at surf internet I pay only 5.95 for the phone with unlimited long distance in Canada! There are two drawbacks though, one being I can't block calls - very limited star codes - and two, my number shows up as some other number on other peoples call display. I am glad I switched and saved so much money every month! Shaw is better than Telus in my book, but way too expensive. I have not had any connection issues myself, and the installation was easy and quick. I wish they had my old star codes though! read more

Don't expect any customer support. Good pricing until you sign up. I signed on with them last year and they had a promo of 300 download at $50 per month. It was a great deal, I thought. So I changed modems at an expense of about $100, paid Surf the upgrade change fee, and a then few months later: bam -- they want $70 per month and didn't even give notice until I saw the new bill amounts. I complained. They would not honor the old pricing even though in the past, they promised no price increases so I reverted to my old 75 speed for $40 per month. They are a deceptive company. Great price but they'll try to scam you later. I wasted money on a new modem and payment of an upgrade" fee. After I complained, they changed me back to my old plan at no expense. I would've preferred to stay with the faster plan, but the unexpected 40% price jump left a bitter taste. So no, I would NOT recommend Surf Interet. read more

Just got started with Surf. At first I was getting only cable internet through the modem they sent me, but not wireless. Called their office and a helpful guy named Loca spent almost an hour on the phone with me trying different fixes but when those didn't work he set me up for a visit with one of their tech guys for two days later. The tech guy, Alfred i think his name was, came promptly at the exact time of the appointment and after running several diagnostic tests, determined the modem was defective and replaced it on the spot but left me the old one so that I would have internet until Shaw remotely connected the new one, which happened a couple of days later. Awful horrible con artists with no respect or honesty. Keep saying "to be honest" over and over again and its like they are trying to convince you bc they arent really. Worst is no loyalty to referrals. Make up prices as they go along. Price changes minute to minute depending on who you talk with. Dropped calls and disturbances in phone connections and internet. Make up stories about anything to convince you to buy or lie about inane things like costs of tv box up for new boxes w many intl channels and yet friends with old boxes get same channels added. Lie after lie. Operations dont exist. All dont speak english well and talk over the customer or cant read or do basic math. Cannot hear the agents either. The phone line they use reflects the garbage you will get if you get their line at home. Background noise unbearable during calls. Constantly have to repeat self bc of kanguage barrier. read more

I am in search of reducing my cost for TV, internet and phone. I like to run parallel first. I have tried the TV and there may have been some issues on the last wintery weekend but it appears some one was there and got the TV up and running for the Super Bowl. We did go through all the growing pains with Telus so I can tolerate a bit here with Surf. They actually installed the TV box and supplied a free router extender to allow an Ethernet connection. The service tech was efficient, polite and helpful. He also called if he could come earlier than as arranged. I bought 2 more boxes. First one I discovered I did not have the password. I called and explained and was passed on to support and with in minutes had my password and he stayed on the telephone till it logged in. Then a week or so I installed a third box and it said I had exceeded my limit. Called again, explained and was passed on to tech. He identified the fix and told me to try in 5 minutes. I tried in 1 and viola....was logged on. Both calls were polite, respectful and efficient....and no music on hold for 15 minute routine like Telus or Shaw.....answered within 3 rings. Quick and efficient. Before I decided to try with these folks I looked at other third party providers as per the list on the Federal Gov website. I first looked at pricing and then reviews and found it hard to find any negative ones for Surf but later did find some....but what I found for negative, they were not all that valid. And of course there are some good ones. But if you look at Lightspeed it would make you shutter. I have tried for phone VOIP. ms and will stick with them. You have to pay in US dollars and have to have the desire to program the ATA box yourself but they will help guide you along of which I took advantage of. The first ATA I used was a SPA2102 and am now using a much easier to program PAP2T. I am looking at 2 lines for approx $10 Canadian a week. I can also call on smart phone using the app by Grandstream. Great job Surf!!!!! Ps. Keep in mind if you buy their TV programming you should have unlimited download as you could use 10 or more gb a day. read more

I would not recommend this service provider to my worst enemy. We switched from Shaw for same reason anyone does - cost - and it ended up costing MORE than if we had just stayed with Shaw in the first place. We are a big household with multiple users; I work from home on a remote desk-top; they assured me they could get coverage and that connection would not be dropped; I had the technicians back four times and each time they installed new hardware at direct cost to myself; and every time it failed. Apparently, I was meant to test it while they were here and return hardware then and there if it did not work but it was always at 'peak hours (ie after hours) that we would lose signal and reaches of our home would not be covered. They refused to refund me the cost of TWO dual band routers which they ASSURED me would solve the problem so in the end, I just threw good money after bad. The TV service buffered constantly and was baffling to the end. I am just so relieved to be shot of them and wish I had cut my losses sooner. I do want to thank Alfred, the technician, who came to my home four times for his patience and good will. My recommendation is that he should look for another employer! Surf Internet SUCKS! read more
