I'm not really sure what is up with the vibe of mammoth these days but it's not a resort vibe at all, it feels like a trash can wrapped in a Gucci belt and this store is a perfect example of that. My partner and I walked in to the store this evening hoping to find some new ski boots to purchase and the employee on the floor was chatting away with someone but didn't even acknowledge us yet I was making multiple comments about the boots and which ones I wanted. I didn't think beyond the weird lack of an intro but to when the second employee came out and helped a customer who was very much not next in line I knew this was not the place I was going to spend money on new boots. The employee who was on the floor knew we were waiting to be helped but didn't make a comment and the customer didn't ask if we were next and I'm sure there are cameras in the back. There's no excuse for this level of shit customer service of any kind. The store was beautiful but the people running it, could give two f's about you... Do not buy boots from here -- buying a product of any kind you are also paying for the experience and the experience here is total garbage. read more

This amendment reflects the remainder of my experience post initial review. I returned to the location to have my boots punched again two days after my initial experience per their timeline of willingness to help. The first punch didn't seem to alleviate my pain, though to their initial point it was hard to discern because my feet were already irritated. But, because they refused to help two weeks later during MLK they forced my hand into having more work done on the boots. This experience was much better. They upheld their initial offer of continued service, no questions asked, and did more work on my boots. I interacted with a completely new employee who was very pleasant. The next morning I went in to pick up my boots and was confronted by the manager who was incredibly rude to me the last time we interacted. He questioned me about my initial yelp review to which I asked what about it was false. He had no rebuttal to its authenticity and became very amenable to helping me in that moment. We conversed about my initial experience and settled on a possible misunderstanding for the initial price I was quoted as well as high tensions in the shop that fostered a jump to animosity on the part of the employees. While I do not condone the behavior that I was exposed to, I did accept the apology I was given and was appreciative of the continued work done on my boots. It's hard to tell if progress was made. My feet are still sore, and my boots are still hurting me, but as I've been told, that's the industry. At least they were men of their word, were big enough to apologize, and tried their best to fix the issue a second time. read more

My newly custom fit boots that were purchased and fitted at the LA location caused a lot of pain and cramping. After five sessions of trying to make them work, the pain did not resolve itself. We went back to the LA store for adjustments and minimal to no effort in resolution was made. A ski session following our LA "adjustment" at Mammoth confirmed the issue with the overall fit and we decided to have another adjustment at the Mammoth location since we were already in the area. I feel incredibly grateful to have met with Todd, who was receptive and understanding of my fit issues. My experience was night and day when compared with the adjustment appointment in LA. Todd (at Mammoth location) listened, investigated, and responded. I left my boots with him for the afternoon so he could make the appropriate adjustments. I picked my boots up the next morning and I spent six hours in the newly adjusted ski boots with no issues. Moreover, I had a great day and felt the money spent on custom molded boots was well justified. My advice is buy and fit your boots here! read more

My third visit to a Surefoot shop was as good as the first. The guys in here are good at selling the right product for the customer. I came in to check out which boots would be best for me. I ended up buying foot beds to replace the ones I bought at Surefoot Whistler in 2003. The store had a record of my original purchase. While checking it out, Mrs G decided to try the technology to address problems she develops after skiing hard terrain. Today, we definitely tested her new foot beds and she had ZERO foot pain. Not cheap but the foot beds and boot fitting are high quality. read more

If you are looking for great quality comfortable ski boots, Surefoot is the really the only place to go. While prices may be slightly higher than other places, the service and dedication to getting you well fitting boots more than makes up for the difference. This location is conveniently located right in the middle of the Mammoth Lakes Village (entrance is on the street side next to the little market). I've been to other locations as well in Whistler, Park City, and Santa Monica and everyone is always super helpful and genuinely wants to help you get the best fit with your boots which is SO important to have a great day on the mountain. I got boots with customized orthotic soles (not the full customized liner) a few seasons ago and I'm super happy with them! I've had them adjusted after a few years at a different Surefoot without any issues. My sister has also had her boots adjusted here - it was fast and they did a good job. Highly recommend Surefoot for any of your ski boot needs! read more

I just bought my second pair of boots from Surefoot. I bought my first pair in 2009 and they lasted 13 years, with a comfortable fit and good contol. Prior to that I suffered through off-the-shelf boots. They do know their stuff at this store and I found the customer service to be excellent. Just skied on my new pair for the first time today, December 16, 2022. The fit was good. No major issues and I was comfortable on day one. There were two areas of my feet where I have bone issues and they bumped out those spots this evening. They even gave me a pair of shoes so I could leave the boots with them when I was done skiing for the day. I enjoy the fact that the Mammoth store is at the base of the Village Gondola making it easy to stop in for adjustments. Pricey but, in my opinion, worth it. read more

My wife says I have Hobbit feet, wide and thick, and I had come to accept that wrapping my feet in moleskin and losing a toe nail was the sacrifice I had to pay each ski season. Mind you I had spent good money at Footloose in town and had dismal results after multiple adjustments. For Christmas this year, my wife gave me new boots at Surefoot. It was definitely an enjoyable experience. After having my foot measured by computer, the manager Todd, walked me through my options. Due to my width, I was limited to 3 different boots. I liked the fact that Todd wasn't trying to push me into the most expensive boot. In fact, it was the opposite. He said that the lowest priced boot was all that I needed. I chose the Lange boot with Surefoot's custom orthotic and foam liner. Maybe it's wishful thinking that I will get more Powder days in this season, so I added in a boot heater. Again, they actually pushed the middle priced heater instead of the most expensive. After selecting my boots, Todd stretched them a little more. They then had the custom liners made by running foam in and round your feet while I pulled my body down. You could feel the foam create a ton of pressure on my feet while it hardened. After I went and got lunch for an hour down the way, the boots were finally ready to go skiing on. They warned me in advance that it might need some minor tweaks and encouraged me to bring them back in after I had skied on them. Evidently, they have a lifetime guarantee where you can bring them to any Surefoot and get adjustments for the life of the boot. I pretty only ski at Big Bear and Mammoth and there isn't one in Big Bear so I need to get them perfect while on this trip. I came back in another time and had them thin out the bottom of the orthotic and stretch my boots a little more. Finally, after all of the adjustments, I can honestly say they are the best boots I have ever owned. No hot spots, no more moleskin, and the perfect stiffness that I wanted. It wasn't cheap....all in with the boot heaters and tax it was about $1500, but for me it was totally worth it. I would recommend Surefoot to anyone who has trouble fitting ski boots. read more

Check that $$$$ price tag. But don't let that make your decision. If you're a high-end skier and you want good comfort and service, you came to the right place. My ski fanatic friend guided me here when I got into skiing. The wise monk told me that a good boot is the most important piece of equipment I can buy. I dropped a few hundred dollars here for a stock boot, liner, and custom orthotic, and I've been reasonable satisfied so far. I say "reasonably" because I have to remember that hole in my wallet. +Excellent service. Period. They will do what it takes to fit your foot. I've had them adjust the boot (mostly heat punches) probably 3-5 times at no extra cost. They will always at least recommend the custom orthotic, because that's what makes them special, but it also allows you to go back for adjustments w/ no problem. Think of it like an insurance policy +National Chain. I bought boots in Mammoth, and I've had them adjusted at no charge in Los Angeles a couple times. +They make & sell the best. If you want the best, you'll probably be getting a custom liner and orthotic here. If you have a weird foot, this is awesome. -Some (most?) locations closed in the off-season -Can get busy during ski season -Cost. Yea. -I've had to diagnose a couple of my own issues (which I thought their foot scans would figure out). I have a leg length discrepancy and the boot they selected for me wasn't quite right. We've mostly squared it away via adjustments, but it took longer than I would have liked. Last words of advice: It can take several (up to 20) days of skiing for things to really sock in. The liner has to adapt to your foot, too! read more

After I posted a not-so-great review on the Santa Monica location, I was contacted by an agent at customer service who assured me that I would be fitted with new boots. Since my experience with the rental boots called Dabello, these were exactly what Todd the manager provided me. Since no foam was used, the fitting was much less uncomfortable and I was able to ski with the boots the very next morning. I have since had 2 more minor adjustments and believe that another one at the beginning of the next ski season may well do the job. I will give the Mammoth Lakes location 5 stars on efforts and 3.5 stars on the results. Stay tuned. read more

My Surefoot fitting process was probably longer and more involved than I hoped it would be, but frustrations were greatly offset by the truly kind people working on staff. I did a completely custom fitting where they pour in the liquid foam and it molds to your feet etc. You leave thinking how could these NOT be the most comfortable boots you've ever owned but unfortunately, further finetuning is needed from there. Over a period of like 8 ski days in the span of 2 weeks, I had to revisit the Surefoot store two or three additional times to have them shave down some part of the insole, or widen an area by the toes, etc etc. Then I'd go back out and ski, hoping for the best, but then something else would hurt and I'd have to come back in. My last day of skiing last weekend (granted a total powder day) was one of the most positive days I've had and my feet finally started to feel better, not worse. I think the fit is there now but who knows, maybe I'll need one last adjustment. I am giving the business 5 stars because I truly believe everyone working there PASSIONATELY wants you to have an amazing ski experience and will go to any lengths to make that happen. Every time I went back in and politely explained my new issues, multiple people jumped to help work out how we could improve the fit again. I am a total people pleaser so it's hard for me to fathom going into a store and saying I don't like something that someone did, (multiple times) but they made that process so easy and I never felt the slightest bit judged or like I was annoying when I came in saying my feet still hurt. Bottom line: Getting a performance boot fitting is a process. Our feet are not used to being put in tiny cages. You kind of need to go in knowing that at first t it's going to be a pattern of fitting, skiing, being in pain, re-fitting, lather wash repeat. I imagine this is a process any serious athlete goes through with equipment. If you want to have an easy/comfortable skiing experience, you are best off buying something off the rack in a half size too big and know that you'll be able to decently ski green/blue runs forever. But if you want to truly improve your technique and ability, to seriously ski black and double black eventually, I think you need to mentally prepare for the process of custom boot fitting despite the hassle and frustration it will likely bring. These guys are not trying to make a fast buck, not trying to upsell or pressure sell you into anything. They truly just want you to love skiing and have a great boot to ski with. read more

It was zero degrees over New Years 2015 week my feet were so cold that they actually when numb. I had my Surefoot boots for over ten years and somehow I developed a blister from the rubbing on the liner. Not only were the guys on top of fixing the liner and remove the rubbing, when I purchase new boot heaters, they had the heaters ready 90 minutes. All other shops who tried to sell me the $300 plus said it was impossible to do...the three shops I went to told me I had to pick up my boots after 8 am, no exceptions....something that was unacceptable due to Mammoth's early ups that weekend starting at 7:30 am. After I drop off my boots, went the hot tub, the staff was so service oriented that I did not even have to come into the store to get them. They offered to bring them to the curb, to my car and kindly thanked me for the business. Went here for, guess what, new ski boots! My old boots were 10 years old and were great when I got them, but now were stiff and impossible to get into. Within a couple of hours, Lauren had me in new custom boots with foam liners and custom foot beds. Expensive, yes. Awesome, yes! Technology has improved greatly in a decade. Went in on 26 Feb 2016, with Lange XT boots that had "shrunk" (OK, my feet got fatter). I also wanted custom foot beds. The staff were professional with me, did the minimum work needed to fix my issues (a bit of shell stretching) did only the most minor up selling of their product. My boots were almost perfect the next day. As a tourist with a problem, they fixed my issues with a complete minimum of fuss and muss, recommended the minimum action required (and were a little surprised when I asked them to add the custom beds after stretching the shells - they would have been happy to let me out the door with just the shell adjustment). So, while a previous reviewer thinks of these guys as preying on tourists, I couldn't disagree more. Your mileage may vary. I would recommend highly. read more

I am a repeat boot buyer as well as a SoCal ski patroller and 55 skiing years. Basically told by the store manager (Todd Koenig) that the company would not honor their warranty ("If for any reason...dissatisfied...repair or replace...no expense to you"). Further, I contacted the corporate President (Mr. Robert J. Shay), all I got was double talk (I know as much as he does about life of boots). Did I say I was a repeat customer (Deer valley fitted my first pair after about 12 visits). The company has a business model which preys on visiting tourists: painful boots...visit surefoot...pay big $ and lot of pain for new boots/initial fitting...suffer...return to shop within a day....repeat 1x...then fly home with still painful boots as usually on vacation w/o chance to pursue like I did. Also, the staff are arrogant ski bums....hardly professional. Probably will have to sue them to get $ back, maybe even a class action! Avoid these guys like the plague and try and get a local shop close to where you live. read more

I wear orthotics in my running shoes and yet blanked on the idea I might need something for skiing! 2 days of pain where I could only do 3 runs and after 45 minutes the guys at Surefoot cured all my ails! I went in with a vague description of what I have at home for running and they knew what I was talking about and used the technical terms that were lost at the back of my brain. Although they were busy, they were able to get to me and get the new insoles done in less than 45 minutes. I also got good boot sizing advice since I had sized up ( unnecessarily) due to foot pain. They let me know I could come back for a "tweak" after skiing if I needed anything but it was perfect the first time. We'll worth the money if you ask me! read more

I went in here while I was in the Village not intending to buy anything. I had never been in the store before so I wanted to check it out. As soon as I walk in, I was greeted by a friendly employee. Beware this is one of the more high-end ski retailers in Mammoth. I get it though that in a resort town right in the village the prices are going to be pretty high. Overall, I would return. I purchased a pair of Lange ski boots with custom orthotics and foam injected liners from Surefoot. Initially, there was a pretty uncomfortable pressure on the front of my ankle. They told me that I shouldn't be miserable , but to ski it a few times to see if it sorted itself out before getting work done on it. It just got better each time I skied, and now I have the best fitting pair of boots I've ever had! They fit like a glove, my feet are unbeilievably happy, and I'm a fan! For years I've had to unbuckle my boots while on the lift, as my feet would fall asleep and feel very cold even with boot warmers installed. I just chalked it up to poor circulation in my feet. I can't believe how great these boots fit. I bought them in the Fall during their "locals sale", so the price was fair and for the amount of comfort i get, worth every penny! read more

Since writing a poor review and reaching out to Surefoot, they got back to me and offered to help anyway possible. The problem isn't solved 100% but they say I'll be all set up and fixed for next season (they were out of the right size boots to help me this season). A+++ I am 50. I started skiing at age 3. I have had many skis and many a boot since then. For the last 15 years I have had Lange's, Salomon's, Tecnica, back to Salomon, now Tecnica. Athlete forever - basketball, volleyball, street hockey, track (for a day), and softball. So yah I can tolerate pain - and I have suffered with all of these boots with my own orthotics - still pain and no control of my skis. Many of us go more than likely what the old timers with experience in our lives tell us. Then more great time tested technology reveals itself. Today I skid 6 Long runs no pain and no break other than the lift, complete control, and fearlessness restored in my ability to ski with comfort and confidence. See Justin and the bearded manager. He booted up a family member while i was there and my spouse. This store is nothing short of having something that every lover of skiing should spoil themselves with if you have the money. Worst retail experience EVER. Buying these boots has RUINED my last 12 months of skiing. They've been modified a few times, but the pain and discomfort just shifts. My husband bought them too, and we both agree these are the worst boots we have worn in our 40 years of skiing. My husband decided to pull out the "custom" insole and added a $10 Dr. Scholl one from Target. He hasn't skied in them yet, but he said it feels exponentially better. Their insoles are hard as a rock, and never have our feet been cold in ski boots--but they are now. Portions of my feet are extremely numb after skiing. Every time I take the boots in, it takes nearly 24 hours to get them back. As I said, each time the discomfort changes, but the problems are not resolved. They measured my foot the day I purchased and told me what size to buy. I am pretty confident they insisted I buy a boot that was too small. I don't know how many times I have to go in and waste my time during a ski trip. The staff behaves as though this is a normal process. We are leaving on a ski trip tomorrow, and I am tempted to just rent boots. But I paid $1100.00!!! Beyond disappointing. Hey Surefoot--refund my money, or let me choose a whole new set of boots with factory liners and insoles. read more

I'm a Surefoot fan, I swear by my boots. Everyone at the Mammoth store is super positive, extremely knowledgeable and kind. The Los Angeles store is sadly not as well run... at all. I would highly recommend whatever you get checked, looked at, or purchase at the LA store should be doubled check by the lovely people at the Mammoth location. They saved my feet and my ski day. Then I brought my father since his boots happened to be breaking that day and they also noticed he had lost BOTH heels of his boots since the plastic had been cracking, potentially very dangerous, and they were amazing to him as well. I recently was in Deer Valley and needed a minor repair on my boots. I was talked into getting new boots by the sale guy who was quite persistent. After spending $700.00 and 3 hours for the salesperson to do all the measurements for their custom liner and other adjustments, i skied the next day and hated my boots. They were ill-fitting and hurt. I had to go back twice -- only to be told that i should have spent another $400+ for the customer liner and what would i expect from a stock boot liner. I left in anger and frustration. I went to the SureFoot in Mammoth Lakes and was met by Lauren - She listened to my concerns, asked some questions so she could understand the problems, she totally re-did the measurements, and made new insoles and spent close to two hours working on my boots until the issues were resolved. If you ski a good amount of days a year and you're tired of uncomfortable boots do yourself a favor and check out Surefoot. I had always heard that this place is for poor skiers who want cushy comfortable boots but don't require performance. Don't believe the hype! I am an avid skier and have suffered the pain of terrible fitting boots for years. I needed a high performance, stiff, performance boot and always assumed that tight, poor fitting boots were a necessary evil to get the performance I needed. I met with Todd and his staff and decide to bit the bullet and pay the very price that is required at Surefoot. The staff and I discussed my skiing style and my need for very high performance boots. They set me up with a great pair of Lange boots and after an hour I was on my way. I have been back no less than 3 or 4 times to modify and make adjustments to my boots after the initial fitting. Some of the modifications were minimal and easy, but some required some serious effort. The guys didn't flinch and gladly make adjustments and get me out of the shop in minutes. After 3 or 4 fittings am skiing more confidently than ever. I have never been able to ski more than a couple of runs before unbuckling my boots. I had to stop in the lodge a couple of times a day just to take off my boots and let my feet get some blood. After skiing my Surefoot boots in groomers, crud, powder and every condition imaginable I couldn't be happier. I wear my boot s all day with no pain or discomfort. Even more, I am charging harder than ever and can't believe the different a proper fitting pair of boots can make. These guys are the real deal! Super stoked on my boots and the performance I am getting on the mountain. Yes, the price is STEEP but soooo worth it. Thank you boys! read more
