Lovely store with a pleasant customer service...There are great selection of different brands like Hoka, Patagonia and etc...There was very small session that had sale items but not a big collection...Value wise there weren't cheap, but you can find items that even you cant find online...I lost my gloves so i was here to buy pair one... We stopped by the store for the end of the winter season sale, especially looking for ski gloves. Store employee Claudia was very helpful and pointed us to the right direction. Prices are 50-70% higher than in any other store on mammoth and refuse to return money for the goods, although we bought it yesterday and did not use it, all the store employees are rude and arrogant, I strongly do not recommend this store read more

My wife and I have been coming to Mammoth for quite a few years and love this store as they always seem to have stuff that other places don't carry, plus their service is great. They have a great selection of apparel from Patagonia / Marmot, and Hestra Gloves that no one else seems to carry on the mountain. We came in today to look for a specific helmet for my wife (Smith Vantage) that we couldn't find anywhere else. We had checked five other shops, and every lodge at the ski resort with no luck. I was looking to eventually find a lighter rain jacket and rain pants for backpacking, but just a looky-loo yesterday. The salesperson Christina was very personable and friendly and showed me the options - even allowed me to weigh them with a scale I had in my car. She was a lot of fun to deal with and shared her own UltraLite backpacking adventures. I could get a better price on Amazon, but she helped with some discounts. Knowing I could lower my weight by 1lb for this week's hike, I bought 'em (both Marmot gear). What a great person to deal with - THANKS CHRISTINA!!!! read more

We went in looking around and I went to the bathroom while my kids and husband waited. We have been coming her for over five years and always buy something. The lady (owner, I think) with white hair in a ponytail constantly harassed my husband and kids while I was gone and said something like "oh, you guys just want to keep warm while you wait for your reservation". Then, when I got back, she said to me while I was looking at caps "oh, I see you've looked at the whole store and now your are caps". This was totally obnoxious and unnecessary. She has lost me and my family as customers. Absolutely terrible customer service. Why open a store when you just want to mistreat and annoy your customers? read more

I went to see what gear they had this season. I ended up leaving with the finger shoes that ran me $100 but worth every penny. They have a lot of Patagonia gear from Ski and outerwear jackets, to the matching bottoms, sweaters, shirts, under gear to keep you warm, boots, hiking attire... you name it. If it's for the outdoors, they might have something here for you. Being a large provider of the high end brand, you truly get what you pay for. It's worth saving up for a good piece of out door gear that won't wear out. Parking is across the street off Minaret or you can take the local free transit system or if you stay fairly close to the village, you can walk here. We wandered in after having had dinner at the Village, cool little shop. The store was quite busy with one employee and she was great. She was tending to everyone's needs and was happy and friendly. The store had a sale on winter gear making it extra busy. I was looking for a new pair of hiking boots or shoes as the old boots were well, just old. They were still quite comfy, but it was time to replace them. The clerk found my size right away, offered me the next size as she said they tend to run a little small and with hiking socks the larger size may be more comfortable. While trying both on and in a quandry about which size to get, she checked in on me several times offering advice. Decision made, heading to the register, there was a short line and she juggled customers like a pro. The boots were on sale, yahooo, and within a few short minutes we were on our way. I have to say, if you are in the area of the village, I would pop in and have a look around, they have a good selection and the prices were reasonable for Mammoth. read more

Killer sale section. Scored end of season sorel leather knee high boots at 40% off! Informed that they were weatherproof which was icing on the cake given I live and work in mammoth. All apparel was also 25% off. If you like to rifle for deals, they even had extra discounted racks in the back. Friendly workers was a bonus. I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes though I easily could have spent longer if I was searching for other items. Located in the lower level of the village, this store is nestled between a leather shop and food establishment. Worth the walk down the stairs. read more

I have a passion for any type wedge shoe with a heel. So Saturday afternoon 1/14/17 when I eyed the black leather Sorel boots with a 2.5 inch heel..I had to try them on. The boots were so sweet..I didn't want to take them off. I boxed up the boots I was wearing & wore my new Sorel's out. I wish though, that I can remember the guys' name that helped us. Love this store we have come back 3 years in a row. If you like Icebreaker, Patagonia they have a large selection, we tend to buy base layers, under garmets, hats. Its a boutique, they have decent sales in the summer but we go back because their selection is more varied than most of the sports stores. Mia our sales woman was helpful and showed us things we didn't even "see" in the store all this while she had compassion with a customer in front of us who was a handful. The staff in here is always friendly. They also tend to have a nice selection on their sales rack in the back. I recently walked in to check on a pair of shoes and found that the staff member who helped me out was very informative and despite not having my size, offered to call their sister-store to check for me. I would highly recommending stopping in and checking out their selection. read more

Went to this store on a Thursday afternoon shopping for my daughters birthday, stumbled upon a pair of boots that fit my wide feet. The sales clerk stated that the boots were 20% off, which was a good buy. Wanting to finish the birthday shopping asked the clerk how long the boots would stay on sale. She stated they would through the weekend. Went back in two days later on Sunday with cash in hand and talked to another employee and stated why I was there and was told the boots were no longer on sale. I tried to explain to this employee of what was communicated previously and I was met numerously by rude, arrogant and unprofessional responses. I was told that the owner decided to take them off sale. Here's the deal. You treat somebody like trash, that lives in town and keeps dollars flowing during slow parts of the year, and has employees who state their not worried about moving products because they will eventually......you've lost your identity. To anyone reading this review.....this facade of a small local business is just another Corporate transplant. I'll shop elsewhere in town like Kitteridge, Footloose or Mammoth Mountaineering Supply. read more

Alpine Approach was the kind of store that I wanted to love, as an outdoors enthusiast. I was incredibly excited to get an exceptional deal on an awesome down jacket over Memorial Day while in town visiting. The cashier who checked me out both verbally confirmed my total to me and handed me a receipt showing a $170 charge. When I reviewed my credit card statement a couple weeks later, I was charged almost 50% more than the salesperson who rang me up told me the cost of the jacket was. When I called to understand what had happened, the employee who answered seemed dismissive, insisting that I still got a deal on the jacket, and I still got 40% off, so why should I expect to be charged what the employee who rang me up quoted me instead of the higher cost? He followed up my request for a copy of the signed receipt showing the $250 I was charged, he insisted that me walking out of the store with the jacket was proof that I agreed to pay $250 for the jacket, despite the salesperson telling me my total was $170 which my receipt also reflected. To make matters worse, he told me, "This conversation is a waste of time, why don't you just drop it?". When I told him that I didn't think that my overcharge of $80 was a waste of his time, he deliberately hung up on me. Needless to say, I'll be taking this up with my credit card company to dispute, and definitely won't be returning to this store. Accidents and mistakes happen, but lack of customer service to this extent isn't acceptable. read more

The service was amazing! We have always found them to be military friendly. Last year in their old location in the top of the Village the airlines lost all of my husbands luggage and because they said they donate every year to Wounded Warrior Project our entire family always returns there to get the local military 10% discount.
