I'm so disappointed in this store. I spent thousands of dollars here for carpet, flooring and furnishings. They did a good job. I left several items for consignment. I left 5 messages for an update on my pieces. I never received return calls. I went into the store as it was closing and inquired. Nothing. No call back. I'm sure those pieces are lost forever. read more

The owner definitely has great taste but the prices for what appeared to be consignment clothing were completely unrealistic. $999 for a pink pair of Bogner pants, probably from the late 90s? An old velvet hat for $30? There's lots of new clothing--much of it country style (think Johnny Cash tees and plaid button downs) but again, the prices are high. Some beautiful serving pieces for the dining room and a few books but the Christmas ornaments hadn't been marked down and we visited months after the holiday (April). Perhaps a sale would bring some of these prices down to earth. read more

Be forewarned....My experience of ordering custom furniture was HORRIBLE, primarily because of Robin, the owner. It took months and many calls/emails (initiated by me) to simply place a 3 piece custom furniture order. Did they not want/need business? Then when the furniture arrived, they tried to pressure me to let them deliver it when I was not there (Robin's preference, I was told). Fortunately, I insisted on approving it in person because it arrived with some serious manufacturing defects (see photos posted on another site). Had I not been there, they would have installed it and disposed of my old furniture, leaving me in an impossible situation with rentals booked over the holidays. At first, Robin tried to convince me that the uneven stitching would "steam out" and "Be OK" - this without personally inspecting the flaws. She was "in Bishop" and couldn't be bothered to drive up to meet with me in person. I guess ultimately she agreed when she saw it herself because it was sent back for repairs, but she never acknowledged the legitimacy of my concerns or the inconvenience. More than 2 months later, when the pieces arrived back in Mammoth, scheduling delivery was again a nightmare. Although we'd communicated our schedule more than a month in advance, Robin did not attempt to schedule a crew until a day or two before the delivery date. We took a day off work and drove up from LA, only to find out when we arrived that they didn't have a delivery crew. There were MANY last-minute text messages conveying changes/cancellations. Bottom line, the 8 am Friday delivery time turned into MAYBE sometime over the weekend, and finally 430 pm that same day. Her explanation? "We're doing the best we can during these trying times" via text. Do platitudes suffice when attempting to cover up incompetence and unprofessionalism? I should add that I firmly conveyed my frustration throughout the ordeal, but I never spoke to her or any of her employees in a harsh manner and did not quibble about the price I was charged (which was on the high end of fair). I simply demanded, calmly, that the errors be corrected, and that I was willing to wait. Adding insult to injury, I received a final invoice BEFORE the furniture was delivered (I did not pay until after delivery of course) as well as an ADDITIONAL invoice after the delivery charging an extra fee of $150 for removal of my old furniture (Note that the original invoice INCLUDED a fee for furniture removal - Thank God I'd asked that that be included in the original invoice when I placed the order!) Pointing out that the removal of the furniture was included, I replied in no uncertain terms that I would NOT pay additional charges that had not been discussed and agreed upon. The bookkeeper was very apologetic and blamed it on the "new girl" (who was lovely). I'm sure the additional charge was initiated by Robin as it was clear that everything is dictated by her, even though she never responded to my request to meet in person to discuss any of it. Instead, she communicated mostly by text. She was always out of town - first time, in Bishop and couldn't be bothered to drive up when I was in Mammoth, or in Texas during the second delivery. Despite Robin's egregious attitude, the delivery crew and staff were extremely nice and accommodating. Although they handled the situation professionally, it's clear that they tip-toe around their boss. The "new girl" had to ask Robin's permission to close the shop to be on-site during the final installation - had I not insisted, no representative from the SDS would have been on-site during installation. Apparently, there is high turnover of staff, and customers are not contacted with their "person" leaves. Ultimately the pieces look nice in my space (my good choice - no design input from the Studio) but overall the experience of dealing with Robin and SDS was a nightmare and extremely unprofessional. Robin simply does not care about her customers or their experience and has no understanding of customer service. read more

We bought a condo in late August and wanted to make some changes to the decor. We loved everything Sierra Design Studios had and bought a few things. We decided later to buy a dining room table and 6 chairs from them that were delivered while we were not there, they were delivered in late September/early October. For Thanksgiving dinner we needed to open the table and put the leaf in, but the leaf was warped and the table would not close around the leaf. We went to Sierra Design and reported the problem to one of the ladies working there, she promised to get back to us. We heard nothing. A few weeks later we were back in Mammoth and went back to find out what they could do about the table. Everyone that had been working there was gone. The whole crew. There was a new young lady there who knew nothing about what had happened but promised to find out. Well, here we are in February and the table is still warped. Various excuses have been given, no workmen available to do the repair, or we can send the whole thing back. No thank you, I can't be without a table and chairs for who knows how long. We were offered a discount on anything else in the store, but at this point we will not be shopping there again. We have never been contacted by the owner, nor do we have a working table extension. we should have realized something was up when we found out the whole crew that had worked there previously was gone and would not answer any calls from the store. I have since ordered two beds from Fendons in Bishop and plan to order a new living room set through them. They are so friendly and deliver to Mammoth twice a week. I suggest you try anywhere but Sierra Design Studio. read more

Beautiful, delightful, and gorgous, when I stepped inside it was ooooohhs and ahhhhhhs, and I needed to sit to take everything in. The furniture inside is truly unique and top quality. You will come up with ideas just stepping in alone. However, this is far beyond furniture, as every room in your home can benefit. As with everything, it is the loving touches that make a home, and Sierra Design has the most special touches for every corner of your abode, from candles to custom design small or large. Paintings, candles, pillow... oh my! So much more! This business provides the most amazing vision and remodels that I have seen. Big huge projects or small... oh la la! Robin Stater can't be trusted to get a job started on time, or to observe the terms of her own contract. She demanded the whole of her fee up front, though she was in charge of supervising the general contractor and others on the work itself. After a couple of months she did some ordinary and incomplete design work, and then postponed our job. That's just NOT okay. From the get-go, back in March, we said the work couldn't run into ski season when the unit is in heavy use. We were assured our job would be complete easily within 2 months, starting Sept. 1. We've turned down rental opportunities because we thought the unit would be under remodel then. Now Robin Stater emails to say the job won't start till Oct and will run till the end of the year. Oh, and she doesn't give refunds. That's bad business. Don't hire her or Sierra Design Studio. read more
