I will not shop here again but rather spend my money at Williams Sonoma. My family has spent thousands of dollars here and yet when My husband and I attempted to return a $20 item that cracked after a single use, there was no accommodation. We could have gotten store credit or something. They said it had passed 60 days. We told them we bought it and had no opportunity to use it until last weekend. They didn't care. Very rigid and short sighted. We are about to buy a very expensive espresso machine in the $2500 range. We will buy it at Williams Sonoma instead. I will NEVER shop at Sur La Table again. For $20 Sur La Table, really?!!!! The other issue is we were poorly treated. They didn't even open the box to look at the item. They just quoted corporate policy. How short sighted!! Christmas is coming up and none of my family's Christmas dollars are being spent with you. read more

Ok, so we went to the cooking class that is offered. It was date night, the menu was Butternut Squash Risotto, Salmon with a hazelnut and thyme compound butter and a yummy chocolate desert. The class was amazing! The chef was great, he really made us feel like it was ok to not be a world class chef and still make a semi complicated dish. We both learned a bunch about everything from knife skills to how to patiently cook a perfect risotto. I can't wait to go back! read more

I took a bread making class on 3/24/13, I must say I learned SOOOO much. The instructor went over lots of techniques and tons of samples and everyone got to make some bread and proper techniques for making the bread. I wish I lived closer so I could take more classes. read more

I love this store! I could wander around and stare at all the beautiful pieces of bake-ware, glasses, pans, appliances, etc all day! The service here is very friendly though I will admit not always the most knowledgeable. They supply the best in kitchen items with a better selection than anywhere else in Santa Rosa. They offer knife sharpening, cooking classes, book signings and more on a seasonal basis. If you are looking for a present for someone who likes to cook or entertain this is your store! read more

They really do stand behind their 100% return policy, without fuss. They've had to modify the policy a bit for kitchen appliances, but still it's a great policy. This place is almost as dangerous for me as one of those real, old time neighborhood hardware stores. read more

Wow! I haven't been here in years and now I remember why..This place is seriously ADDICITING, they type of addiction that dries your bank account dry! The people here are always so polite and knowledegeable. I could walk around for hours in this small store looking at all the different baking, utensils, spices and everything else this place has. It's a bit on the pricer side when compared to places like Walmart or Target, but the quality you get here totally makes up for the price. If you shop smart they usually have some good deals. Right now they have some good sales on their Easter bakeware, doesn't hurt to shop a year in advance and be prepared for next Easter right? I will have to create a secret savings account called "Sur La Table" for my guilty pleasures, yes, it's that good :) read more

pathetic customer service. I went in there twice in the past month. The first time, the clerk was just stupid. Asked my name, entered it into her computer and then asked if I was the one from Ohio. Like I said, stupid. No eye contact. No "Did you find everything you needed?" No addressing me by my name, which she had because I had to tell her because I was a customer, I guess. I am not sure why they need to enter everything into their effing computer. Anyway, went in today and had to deal with a clerk who probably did not finish high school but felt entitled to ask my name and then, as before, not address me by my name. No eye contact. No "How are you today?" But I did get the "Dya need a bag?". Not "Would you care for a bag today?" or "Would you like a bag?" Stupid as the previous clerk. She wrapped up the breakables rather poorly and then proceeded to put them into the bag I was buying. Then I handed her my credit/debit card and she asked for ID. I looked at her like she was as stupid as she seemed and walked out. 1) Why does a clerk with an IQ of 45 need to know my name and ask for ID? 2) It was a 120 dollar transaction. It could have been debit. This place is pretentious, embarrassing, overpriced and full of dull housewives who couldn't finish college. Never going back there. I will use Amazon, go to Williams-Sonoma, or go without. What a buncha uptight white ladies who think they are special. read more

Almost took my purchase back. They asked ME if we had made purchases there before. I gave my wife's name. The clerk said "oh she's a chef". I said yes. I wasn't aware that there was a discount for professional chefs. Another clerk almost jumped across the counter to make her point that I didn't qualify. I made the purchase anyhow. Her reaction turned me off so much over a relatively minor discount that I wiil not shop here again and will suggest that my wife make her purchases elsewhere. I didn't come in search of a discount. I purchased Sur La Table's stemless Outdoor wine glasses 3 years ago. I use them mainly on our deck with friends. But yesterday my son and his wife used them by the pool while their daughter was swimming. Needless to say, they had sunscreen on their hands which left cloudy marks all over the plastic and nothing would remove it. I went back and had a very curt sales person tell me their return policy is 60 days. That's it. These glasses are sold under their own label and I don't believe I even used them for the first time within the 60 day period. They obviously won't stand behind their products. I'm out. read more

I rang up to find out if they had a spice/coffee grinder on Monday and was told yes. When I got there they were out of them and the dizzy sales girl didn't even know of what I was looking and acted vacant and ignorant. So why not tell me they were out on the phone? I went back on Thursday after ringing them again when the woman on the phone said they had two and that their shipment arrived the day before. When I got there a couple of hours later, there were none on the shelves. She looked it up and found they had 5 in the back unpacked in the shipment. She giggled and said "sorry 'bout that" smiling and sniggering. So why didn't she get out her box knife and open them up to find what I drove 17 miles to buy? "Maybe we'll have them out tomorrow..."giggle giggle giggle. Sorry, I won't be there because I'm not coming back. Its overpriced and the staff didn't even acknowledge me when I was there waiting to be noticed. I'm not going back. read more

I love taking as many classes as I am able at Sur La Table in Santa Rosa, CA. The chef and the entire store staff are so nice and helpful. I have learned how to make so many different fun things that I had not attempted before. I love all the bread and pastry classes, love the thai cooking and specialty classes. I recently signed up for 3 more. I travel from Ukiah to attend. After the class, you can sign up for another one, sometimes discounted and they always give you a 20% coupon to shop in the store. I paid for 2 cooking classes over the internet jan 24 they charged me $158 on PayPal. the next day they charged my paypal again for $79 twice. I called them four times since. They refuse to take the first charge of my PayPal, saying it is just a hold and it will go away. Well it doesn't go away for three months, so in effect they have charged me double for at least three months. The last call I made they just hung up on me. The cooking classes were very good but I will never go there again because they charged me twice. If you sign up for classes online DO NOT use PayPay. because Sur La Table will charge you twice. read more

Please note, this review is for Mary Bergin's cooking classes here at the Sur La Table kitchen/cooking school. I really enjoyed Mary, she knows her way around the kitchen (she is VERY experienced) and is super funny yet professional. I think I'm a decent cook and know a bit more than the average person and I still learned some stuff from Mary. She has great tips and delicious recipes that she gives you when you leave. The cooking class was set up so well and was very organized, the kitchen here is beautiful. It's exactly what you would expect, seating where you can see, mirrors on the ceiling, stations set up so everyone can get their hands dirty, ect. Mary mentioned the tools and products she was using and why she used them but there wasn't any pressure to buy anything from the store, which was refreshing. I highly recommend Mary's classes for a fun date night, family day or just to learn about cooking. read more

First, I have loved Sur la Table for years. But this location.....not so much. I had a couple of bad experiences here and unfortunately, I have vowed never to return. In the last incident, I was shopping and had some items held. I was continuing to look around more, which irritated the salesperson. While I was looking around, I overheard her talk negatively about me to another employee - in front of a customer. The manager did apologize, but there was no excuse for their behavior. It just stuck with me as one of the worst examples of customer service that I have ever experienced. I do like their merchandise, but if I want to purchase something, I look online. read more

I had a really strange customer experience yesterday (6/26) at the Santa Rosa store. I was greeted straight away and asked for a cherry putter. The nice woman took me to the location and showed me this weird looking thing. I asked if they had the "old fashion" style. Another customer asked her a question and she immediately walks off to help her. What? Then she seems to sort of talk to me then walk to check out counter and start using the computer. Is she looking up something for me? No clue. Then she seems to pass me off to somebody else. OK, I think, maybe we are getting somewhere. Then nothing for a couple of minutes, so I guess I'm not being helped. Then somebody says they are trying to find the style that I want. Great, back on track. This person disappears, helping another customer? No clue. I'm about to walk out then another nice lady is trying to help me. Finally she decides the supposed 15 pitter that the computer is showing in stock must still be in a tote some where. She seems to be looking for them. OK, getting sort of fed up at this point. Finally she tells me she can't find them, she can take my number. Yeah and how long does she expect me to wait until they decided to find them an hour, a day, a week? I walked out drove to HARDISTY'S. One person helped me, they had several to choose from and I left with my pitter. This is not my first poor customer experience at this store, but it might be my last. Maybe they are only helpful if you're spending lots of money? They couldn't be bothered with me because I was only looking at a $14 item? read more

The store has nice equipment and high quality items. I haven't been in the store but maybe twice in my entire life, but I had a horrible experience. This wasn't the store's fault, but the manager they hired. The way this woman talked down to me was shocking and therefore I no longer feel comfortable setting foot in this establishment. Place has everything, and it is good quality. Best advice? Get into their computer, it helps them warranty things for you. And the folks are pretty knowledgeable about what they sell also. read more
