I was roaming the streets of Zurich and found this little gem tucked away in a larger alleyway and…read morestopped to take a photo. I read their "Spring Specials" Board and saw the Karotten Suppe and decided to sit for a spell and enjoy a bowl of one of my favorite soups. As the name suggests, Zoup - they sorta specialize in soups I suppose, (as well as other things I'm sure) with seasonal offerings/variations. I initially wanted carrot and ginger but I opted for the carrot-mango-orange variant. What's cool is that they offered to add some fresh ginger in as well. Win! Win!! In addition to my soup, I also ordered a Panache which is just a beer with a lime soda topper that's pretty refreshing. The staff was very courteous and helpful as well as linguistically patient with me as we both tried to communicate with one another. The ambiance is traditional Cafe European with a nice airy seating area to people watch without feeling like people are on top of you. So, if you are in Zurich and a soup person then this is the place for you.

Many specialties on the menu, I ordered: Tom Kha Gai: Thai soup with fresh chicken, mushrooms, baby corn, string beans and green bell pepper. This is non spicy Mulligatawny: Indian curry soup with fresh chicken and baked apples. Topped with dried saffron. Comes with vasnati rice. Comes with basmati rice. This is non spicy Dessert: Swiss "Deep dish style" Apple pie. A MUST ORDER if available. **Desserts vary on season and may changes each day *outdoor/ patio seating available

Traveling as a…read moreceliac always requires a fair amount of planning, and I found Eugens while searching for gluten free options in Konstanz. While my initial contact with the waiter made me a bit nervous--he had clearly never heard of celiac--he did allow me to write down the German word for celiac on his notepad to show to the chef. The chef came out and reassured me that they were used to cooking for people with celiac, and that the dish I had ordered was indeed gluten free (all gluten free dishes are marked with "gf" on the menu, too). This was a nice gesture, as eating out as a celiac always involves a fair amount of worry. I ordered the gnocchi with cherry tomatoes, rucola, and parma ham. While I thought you could definitely tell the gnocchi themselves were gluten free--had a bit of a grainy feel/taste to them--the rest of the dish was so excellent and flavorful it more than made up for it. The service was also nice and friendly in other ways--since it was rather chilly, and we were sitting outside, a man (who I later recognize as Eugen himself from the website) brought us a couple of blankets and made sure we were comfortable. It's just a shame they don't open til the 1pm on Sundays--otherwise we would have been back the next day (I was already planning my lunch of a bunless burger with roasted potatoes!). Instead, it will have to wait for our next trip to the Bodensee!
