Jewels tend to get a bad wrap due to its high prices and less than stellar customer service…read moreexperiences, and while these may be true, the service experience is, in my opinion, the result of novice employees who are literally getting their start as professionals. Come on, these are kids and are not much different than who who we were at that age when we were learning the art of serving our beloved customers, and like us, they don't yet realize how beloved customers are.
Tonight, I walked into the store looking for a particular item, and as I walked through the produce section looking lost, a guy wearing a mask and a Jewel Osco jacket who appeared to be an employee, ignored my meandering as he walked past me a few times, until finally I got his attention and asked for that which I was looking for. He looked at me confusingly and said, "Oh, I wouldn't know anything about that, you need to see someone in customer service..." I thought, as he walked off, "Hmmmmm, you look like you work here. Could've sworn I saw Jewel Osco on his jacket." But I digress... As I walked over to "customer service," I noticed a few young me to whom I asked the same question about the product in question. As they looked bewildered, Kristen, a polite you lady said with a smile, "it should be on isle 3, come on let's find it..." With exuberance, she walked over and when we didn't find the item, I showed her the item on my phone to which she exclaimed, "OH, I know where it is!!!" and walked me over to the product and with a smile said, "here you go sir!" Ironically, the same person who essentially told me that wasn't his job, was stocking produce in the bin right next to the refrigerated section where the product was found. Incredible? Yes! This young man doesn't realize his true work function - serve the needs of your customer, otherwise, they'll go elsewhere, your store will lose sales, labor hours will fall, and you'll eventually be looking for another job. While this is a teachable moment for him, I really wanted to use THIS opportunity to give a shout to Kristen... THANK YOU YOUNG LADY! You've a promising future in your chosen profession!
