Egusi and fufu
Jaclyn W.

We tried this place today for the first time. My fiancé really enjoyed the chicken egusi and fufu. He said it was delicious and it was his first time ever trying African food. I had the baked chicken with rice. The food was good, but way too spicy for me personally. Each meal was about $14 and there was about a 30 minute wait to get the food because they do cook everything fresh .

Egusi stew (goat & fish)
Maya ..

My favorite African store, where you can order authentic Nigerian food that is always flavorful, consistent, and fresh. I ordered my usual Egusi stew with goat and fish but you can add chicken. I would recommend that for first timers or trying jollof rice. I also had a side of pounded yam (fufu) which is a swallow. Service please having patience because it takes time but nothing longer than 30 minutes unless busy. Worth the wait, the inside is small and full of snacks, juices, and fruits to try. Orders may be best to place over the phone.

I have not been a fan of super stores, as they tend to either get grocery right and everything else…read morewrong, or vice versa. Walmart and Target are two examples of that. Now that I live outside of Chicago proper, I no longer have access to some of the specialty markets and grocery stores I used to frequent. Meijer tends to meet my needs when it comes to grocery, home products, casual clothing, personal care products, and gardening. Two things that stand out the most was their gardening products. I had started gardening, so seeds, plant food, gardening soil, and other gardening items were reasonably priced. Being a pescatarian, there vegetables worked for me. But now that I grow my own, the gardening catalog worked perfectly for me. As to grocery, although there has been spike in grocery prices, they were not as high as I noted at other grocery stores. It helps that I take advantage of coupons, specials, and price reductions thanks to participating in their perks program. This store serves four immediate suburbs, so it tends to get busy on weekends, for sure. I go during the middle of the day when I work from home through the week. I have yet to go and not find what I needed. And because I am a very picky shopper, primarily from the perimeter of the grocery store, I have not been disappointed in what they have.

This review is for the bakery only. I stopped into the bakery to order a cake. I had previously…read moretried to order online, but I was having a difficult time doing that. So I asked the gal at the bakery counter if I could place an order and she looked at me and said 'I don't know if you want to, I guess' . I said 'oh I said if you're busy, I'll come back' . I asked how much time she needed for me to come back and she said I'm the only one here. When I mentioned, I tried to order online. She said I don't know why you're having a problem. We're getting online orders. She was not willing to help me. It was one of the worst experiences I've had at Meijer and Meijer is my favorite store. I just said that I will go to Strack and Van Til to place my order and she said 'fine go do that'. For reference this was Sunday 5:20 PM, June 28.

Really like this Walt's ... in fact it is better than the Tinley Park location we used to visit…read morebefore they closed down. Anyway, while it is a few miles farther away, it is a stellar grocery place. This Walt's has all the usual things you'd find in a typical grocery store, but here the shelves are stocked and blocked and fronted ... seems like management has their priorities in the right place. The store is very clean, and the employees are very friendly. The selection of meat/fish items is exceptional. Many outlets today don't have on site butchers ... the stores buy precut meat and repackage it with their name. While I am sure some of that happens at Walt's, they have a real live butcher also doing his thing, and it is a nice addition. Also unlike some other places, the selection of fish and lamb and beef is very broad. Many items are on the shelf and you do not have to special order. All in all this Walt's in Homewood was excellent. We'll continue riding out here o do our shopping as they have some of our local shops beat handsdown. Try it.

Makes my wife very uncomfortable with unsolicited comments & advice. It is the checkout that drives me crazy. In the AM lines unreal. One nice old lady checking 5 to 15 people in line. Every morning. EVERY MORNING!!! No quick check out lanes used at all. I now spend my money at Berkots or Mariano's.
