I had done two Lagree classes prior to trying SLT as well as a Solidcore class at one of their LA studios. I opted for SLT this time only because they had a 2/$40 intro deal which was a little more cost effective than paying the drop in rate at the Solidcore studio nearby. I showed up for my first of two classes, and the reception girl was nice and gave me a refresher on the megaformer but warned me "you'll be lost and that's okay". She actually advised me to "copy others" if that became the case. That should have been my sign to leave, as Lagree and Pilates are both about having proper form, not just "copying" another participant which can lead to injury. If your cueing is that bad where participants are "lost," perhaps you shouldn't market it as an "all levels" class. Then I find out the instructor I had signed up for was switched to Farah, which should have been my second sign to leave. Dang, was she is rough. And not in a good way. She's forceful, impatient, and comes off very pompous. She actually had us hold movements to a beat at one point, like what? You're supposed to count at a steady pace; what instructor worth their salt coordinates the movements to their playlist? I spent the first 20 minutes debating on whether I should just walk out before I decided to ignore her vibe and just sweat it out. Instead of leaving empowered to take on my day, I left demoralized and disappointed. Then I took Alexandra's class on my second of two visits, and it was night and day. She's truly the only reason I'm giving SLT 3 stars and not 1. She was the saving grace, as she offered fantastic cues and did good demonstrations that were easy to follow. If I'm "copying" anyone, it should be the trained instructor. Alexandra was also attentive to everyone and offered gentle corrections when needed. She was courteous and asked if I'm okay with hands-on corrections, which I appreciated as well. I thanked her for turning my experience at SLT around and left her class feeling strong and inspired. Can't say I'd ever go back to SLT though. I prefer studios that are a bit more professional and prioritize safety and form. Since those two classes, I racked up 6 more Lagree classes in California on top of my normal Pilates routine. Yet to have any experience get close to rivaling the awful class I had with Farah, and I vow to walk out of any instructor's class that times a movement to "when the beat drops."

The owner did a nice job of showing me the machine and explaining aaaalllllll the parts pieces and accessories... I teach on a traditional reformer and this was an ENTIRELY different ball game !! The coach was very good at constantly coming up to me and correcting form and pointing out when I wasn't listening/ understanding cues correctly- even your BRAIN needs to be turned on and ready to listen cause it's ALOT ! Hope they come to DC one day !

I like that the emphasis is on weight training. The instructor goes over the exercises, which are displayed on the screen (short clips that show how to perform them in case you forget). There are 4 stations, and 3 exercises at each station. I've been to other studios that offer similar circuit training classes, and they do a really great warm up here. You start at different stations and rotate every 10 minutes. It's a dynamic class, so you don't get bored. I really appreciated Coach Jabari. He's really personable, and helpful. He monitors your progress/form, and offers really helpful advice. I was struggling through some of the workouts and he gave me a modified routine that was suited to my fitness level. A month ago, I decided I needed to get my confidence back and joined Spyda Muay Thai on a trial…read moremembership. I'm not going to lie and say that it's been easy. My journey the past 9.5 months has definitely been difficult. I wasn't supposed to live, but I defied the odds and survived sudden cardiac arrest on June 25th (only 8% do), had an S-ICD implanted in my side on July 1st, had open heart mitral valve surgery on September 15th, a blood clot/TIA/mini stroke on September 22nd, and a cardioversion on November 11th. Throughout, I was as active as my recovery would allow, which isn't saying much. In January, I started working out like I did pre everything, trying hard to get back to my pre-everything fitness level. When I heard they had opened a Muay Thai gym in Garwood, I went to check out a session and ended up participating. I have absolutely no training in Muay Thai, but rather traditional boxing so I was definitely intimidated. What I learned is that the people in this gym are awesome humans who really care about everyone's success, no matter what that looks like individually. I decided to do this because boxing always gave me such confidence and concentration and I knew I needed both again. After having my world flipped over, things haven't been great. It's been a long road that seems never ending but this is helping. It's really hard for me. But I am doing it and I am really proud of myself. The first class, I was hit with the realization that my brain is not the same as it was pre SCA. Truth is, I knew this, but I tried so hard to pretend it wasn't my reality. I have trouble remembering what I knew so well and am forced to relearn everything each session, sometimes multiple times during the hour as my brain loves to reset itself. We're talking true basics like how to jumprope (I fight with the rope each session as my brain doesn't talk to my wrists doesn't talk to my feet), stances, the difference between a jab, cross and hook (for whatever reason, I remember the uppercut)-- never mind remembering combinations that were just called and thoroughly explained a couple of minutes prior. It's actually been easier for me to learn the kicks because I don't get frustrated with them but rather try to understand the why of each one. I'd highly recommend Spyda Muay Thai to anyone, no matter what your fitness level or experience. "Spyda" is a tremendous teacher and such an amazing person. Everyone is absolutely incredible at this gym. Please don't think you can't. I am living proof that you can do it and there will be a bunch of people there who will cheer you on and motivate you to keep going. Believe me, I know that it can be completely intimidating, but once you step foot into the gym, those fears will disappear.

I went with a friend and we both thoroughly enjoyed the class and felt that we learned new tricks and want anticipating our next visit. Classes are $45 and 90 minutes and Includes stretching (warm ups), learning the techniques and freestyle. I loved the feminine vibe of the decor. There is a class for everyone here and you'll fall in love with each class. Pole Intro with Goddess is amazing, she is such a thoughtful teacher and helps you tap in to your inner sexual goddess. Cindy's aerial silk intro class will have you blown away by your upper body strength and that you can flip upside down in a silk!! Linda's flex classes will exceed your expectations and help you release any doubts that you are not capable of GREATNESS. The instructors at studio air want you to succeed and grow. The 1:1 support here is unmatched and makes you feel comfortable to show your weaknesses so that the instructor can tell you exactly what you can work on to master the skill. It's incredible and beautiful. I am so grateful for this studio and I look forward to all that I can learn here.

This studio is a place to heal. And this instructor/owner is the real deal. You will get stronger. You will find peace and balance. You will be your best after every session and class.
