Superdrug is one such destination, and this branch is very conveniently located in the shopping centre adjoining Clapham Junction station. It's reasonably sized, so has a fair choice of cosmetics, toiletries and over-the-counter medicines. It's also cheaper than Boots, although the surroundings also feel a bit more basic.
The staff I encountered were helpful in an unhelpful sort of way. I wanted an expectorant, but was told they didn't have any - yet many of the 'chesty cough' mixtures do contain expectorant. They seemed keen for me to buy one particular product, but in the end I chose something different, and the salesperson became equally keen on that.
