I don't usually do this, but I'm posting a fair warning about the Supercuts by the south orange train station. I went in and specifically asked them to not touch the front or side of my daughter's hair, and to trim up the back. The first thing Maria did was to cut off all of the hair on the sides! My 12-year-old who likes short hair-but does not want to be mistaken for a boy -is absolutely devastated. This is the second bad experience I've had with Maria - she also cut my son's hair too short, after he told her he wanted to keep length! Today she was speaking to the other hairdresser in Spanish so I'm not sure if it's language communication or she's just incompetent. Either way, avoiding her like the hack she is. read more

I know it was 5 minutes until closing, but there were 3 workers just sitting around. I've been coming here every two weeks for a year now, so I expected to be treated like a regular. If they had been understanding of my situation when I offered and given me that quick trim I needed, I would have been very grateful. Instead now, I will always go out of my way to find a different barber than this location. Definitely left me with a bad impression. Well not come back. It has been a struggle my entire life to find someone who can handle my hair, for whatever reason, and for me to find someone I can trust to give me even just a simple trim. Jeanette had cut my hair many years ago, and it was always memorable so I knew that if the stylist I was seeing currently ever disappeared, she would be my go to. Well, that time came and the anxiety I felt having to start over again and finding someone to do my hair was a lot. I bit the bullet and made my appointment, and boy am I glad I did. The environment Jeanette provided was welcoming and friendly, and all of my anxieties went out the window. Not to mention, she gave me a great cut, and for the next week my coworkers couldn't stop complementing me. I've been going to SuperCuts in Manhattan for the last couple years. I've always had a good experience. I'm not very fussy and I don't like paying a lot for a haircut, so when we moved to South Orange I was happy there was a franchise right next to the train. This place is located literally under the train tracks in a little plaza with a diner and coffee shops. They have very flexible hours (until 9 on weeknights) and discounted cuts after 7pm. I came at 6:30 PM and paid $10 for a haircut because I had a loyalty card. Otherwise it would have been $14, which is still a bargain. There were two stylists working at the time. They were both young and friendly and knew what they were doing. I would definitely go back. read more

Never again never again not even for free ! I gave this place to many try's and I also tip well .... I got a hair cut from 3 different people ... Listening is key !!! My hair always came out shorter then what I wanted or uneven! if someone walks in in the middle of your cut !!! They will rush the cut to take the next person...! I mean rush !!! they won't even ask if You want gel or your hair styled besides the fact I asked for my hair to be styled .. I did like one girl there she was ok but I called to see what time she was there tell got there an hour plus before her shift ended and she asked if I can come back an other day cause she was leaving early !!! I wear my hair natural so I only get a wash and conditioner. I like to let my hair air dry to protect the integrity of the curl and some hairdressers seem to have a problem comprehending that - not just here but everywhere I go I have to duck the hand towel because they are drying my hair while I am saying NO I don't want my hair dry. It's as if they want it THEIR way as opposed to the client's wishes...other than that this is one of the cleaner, newer locations. Won't be returning here. Now, as this is a Supercuts, I was not expecting an amazing haircut but I was expecting good service. My mother came in for a haircut and walked out with wet, un-styled hair. Apparently, if you don't specify you want your hair to be styled, it will not get done. Apparently, a blow dry will take 40 minutes. Apparently, Supercuts, staffed by one employee who stopped every few minutes to address a walk-in is not the place for us to get our hair cut. We will never, ever, ever be back. read more

I have never written a review before but want to save someone else from having the bad experience I had - I knew going in my hair was a disaster but was hoping to have it cleaned up on the bottom and have my layers evened out all over, was tired of spending a fortune and getting bad hair cuts/color - I figured I'd try a local Supercuts - what a mistake, I know I'm use to a different type of salon and wasn't expecting the same service but stylist didn't understand basic hair techniques and left my hair very crooked (in front of course!) Manager tried to fix hair but it was really beyond repair, told her to just leave it and left - much more to this story but didn't want to drag on - Supercuts should properly train staff before they can touch clientele - just having a license isn't enough - extremely dissatisfied read more

Last week on Tuesday September 6, 2017, my daughter went to the South Orange salon to get her hair for the first day of school. She used her earnings from lifeguarding. A young lady by the name of Janette charged her $43 and then proceeded to tell the stylist to use a comb instead of the round brush to blow out her hair. Needless to say her hair was a mess. The next day I came to the salon and Katarina and Maribel blew out her hair and styled it beautifully. This situation could have been disasterous, but Maribek and Katarina saved the day. This used to be my go to haircut location, but with the less than caring customer service they provide their customers I have moved my business elsewhere. On my last visit I was second in line and patiently waited as only 1 women was servicing walk ins. After she finished the other guys haircut and checked him out she recognized me waiting, but left to eat her lunch. I had already checked in so I know my name was in the system so not sure why the negligence. read more

They clearly don't know what customer service is about. They tell you ten minutes and then make you wait for 20 minutes or longer. I heard the person in back telling a story to someone else making me wait . Then they go about explaining how it's your fault and your problem. For the quality of the haircut and customer service I am not going back ever again and recommend that you do not patronize this business. read more

This is the worst haircut place ever. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. They don't listen to anything. They cut off half the back when I asked for a micro cut. I literally said as they were the about to cut the bangs not to and they did it anyway. My kid's babysitter said she asked to have it shoulder length and got very short layers and later got an allergic reaction from it after from the hair around her eyes because they don't wipe the hair off your face. I went in for a haircut based on a picture and not only was the cut nothing like the picture, it is not even. One side has gradual layers and the other is a bob. I tried to tell her and she said your hair is different (ps I got a cut just like the picture last time). The Spanish girl with the reddish long hair totally screwed up my hair. It is horrid, I will literally have to wear a hat. She gave me a cut that looks like I chopped it myself. I am beyond upset. I even clarified a number of times what I wanted during the cut, but she totally screwed it up. I guess if you need a straight trim this is the place, but I will never ever go there again! read more

The first time I brought my children for haircuts I was stunned by how badly they were done--crooked bangs, uneven, not at all what I had asked for. My mistake was going back about 6 months later. Absolutely terrible if I could give zero stars this would be the place. Called ahead of time to schedule an appointment and get a price quote. When I arrived they were super rude and tried to speak about me in Spanish which backfired because I understood what they were saying (very awkward). The woman reassured me that she would be able to do my hair how I wanted it and that it wouldn't be a problem. The cut was fine but when it came to the color she made a mistake (I just wanted my tips done and she went half way up my head) she then tried correcting her mistake by adding glaze. I still wasn't pleased with the end result but I would've been fine with it, except for the fact that they charged me for their mistake! I tried telling them that they made the mistake and I shouldn't be charged for it but they became very abrasive. Would not recommend at all! I would rather pay 5x more and actually be happy with my hair and receive good service. read more
