Maybe they can do natural basic things like wash condition and silk presses. Anything else I don't recommend here at all. I set an appointment a week or so in advance for a sewn in. Malik then messaged me the say of so before telling me to make sure I have the hair and suggested because my hair is natural to do full closure. I informed him it was my first time doing a full closure and he wasn't helpful at all in picking the hair ( only to find out when I was there from Marilyn that they could have ordered what I needed for me at the shop) then I get there and he is asking and getting help doing my hair. I told him it was for a special event . So if you didn't know what you were doing say it up front. It ended up coming out awful and wiggy looking. They put the entire stocking cap with the thick ends on my head did not even cut the ends or try to put make up around the corners to blend so the edges show the cap. Then he didn't even pick the part nor try and lay baby hair around the edges.He also told me my hair didn't hold curls which was his excuse to not put any effort to style it. I was then over charged for this mess as I had to pay like $200 for what ever he attempted in my hair and a separate extra $50 for braids as he has someone else in the shop do them smh. I had to go to another salon to try and fix the mess as I told you I had a special event to attend. She saw the mess he did and was like what the heck is that mess. She was able to adjust the front, fix the edges, pick the part and she did curls which held perfectly. As other reviews mentioned there was an alcohol stench but not sure if it's from being hungover or maybe the cologne he uses smell that way. I'd hate to say there is a alcohol issue here. If I could give zero stars I would. Over the summer for my daughter's 16th birthday I took her to this salon for a silk press blowout. She has very coarse hair, so to make it easier on her in the stylist I put a deep conditioner in her hair before I dropped her off. The gentleman who greeted us was very rude and flippantly told me he would have to wash this out and condition her hair anyway. I should have taken this as a sign to leave but my daughter was very excited to get her hair done for her birthday. I told him just the wash and the silk press. When I got back, I saw he had charged more for some sort of deep conditioning, protein treatment, which I did not consent to. My daughter said he didn't ask her anything. I think it's quite rude to just perform a service that I didn't ask for without asking with me. Who says that was in my budget? On top of that when I got back I felt he had done a horrible job and her hair looked frizzy and messy. I had to go home and run a flat iron through it myself to get it to look nice. As to not get in an argument, i didn't say anything but just I paid and left. I later called and complained to the store owner, who apologized profusely and offered me a partial refund. It was a very nice offer... Only I never received a refund. Despite my calls and emails and texts to follow up, the store owner completely ghosted me and never paid me the partial refund. I will say that I have had my own hair done by the owner before and she always does a great job, but I can't say the same for everyone else in the store and obviously their business ethics practices are lacking. Do yourself a favor and just go to the Dominican salon for less than half the price. read more

Marilyn made sure to contact me and confirm I was still coming, that level of professionalism meant a lot to me. She did an amazing job on my blow out and cut too. Let me start off by saying that the people that work there are very nice. They will offer you something to drink or eat, while you are getting your hair done. The shop is also very clean and the atmosphere is good. Let's put all that aside, I was super excited because I bought a $200 groupon for a sew in. It included 2 virgin hair bundles and installation. I needed all my hair left in because I'm losing my hair so I asked for bangs. The stylist convinced to get a lace front at an additional $90 because of the versatility and I figured why not. 3 hours when everything was all installed, it kind of looked like I had a big wig on my head but then they hit it with the curlers and it looked cute. I got compliments on the hair but my biggest complaint is about the lace front. It's been less than a week and the lace front is sliding back pretty far and lifting up to the point that you can see braids one and two rows back. Its also wrinkling up so that natural and versatile look that I was going for isn't actually happening. read more

It wasn't even about the fact that he didn't know how to style wavy/curly hair that was recovering from heat damage thats happened in the past, but the customer service was just terrible. I've visited on two separate occasions for a blow out + slek press. It was ok. My hair is natural and puffed up as soon as I left the salon. It's actually similar to when I've had white stylists do my 4b hair. I asked for sleek, bone straight, which is how I normally get it styled, however, it was slightly poofy. Marilyn was very friendly and skilled at blowouts and silk press; she also did an amazing job with my color (jet black) ... Jason cut my hair into a bob just the way I asked ... I initially went to slek after my hair was damaged after it was colored by another person/shop. I saw shantella. However I have started seeing Jason and he is "GREAT" (and he also was the one who told shantella what color to use on my hair and how to repair it on that first trip to slek). I think he is the best stylist in the shop. Very friendly, knowledgeable, knows his business and talks up a storm (but never stops working on your hair whilst he's talking ) . I had my hair colored here six months ago because the appointment I set at another salon was canceled. I was just trying to find another salon in the area who could do a balayage. I went here and a male receptionist greeted me and I told him what i wanted and even gave a picture. He kept telling me "This person gets highlights!" And could I manage the maintenance. I just told him what I wanted but insisted we do the highlights instead. When it was done, my hair was over processed. The bleach was brighter in some areas and not evenly distributed and it looked botched. At first I was ok with it until I got hone to look through it. Over the past couple of months, My hair has shedded and came out in clumps so much. I am trying to rebuild the strength of my hair. I usually use coconut oil frequently to maintain the color or consistently condition my hair, even tried to build the protein in my hair. I have to frequently cut it to make it look healthy. Amazing first time Keratin experience! I'm mixed with black and white, which means my curls are small spirals that easily get frizzy (I go through gel like it's my job). I straighten my hair in the winter and usually keep it curly in the summer, but am taking a lot of trips to humid places this summer and want to make sure my hair can keep up. The stylists were professional and very friendly from beginning to end (no wait for my appointment). My stylist gave me great feedback on my hair, ways to keep my hair healthy, and honest feedback on how frequently people do Keratin treatments (vs trying to sell me on needing it every 3 months with a million salon products). After 1.5 hours, my hair was bone bone BONE straight and looked so shiny and healthy. My stylist even gave me a little trim to even out my ends. Four days later, my hair is still bone straight and looking incredible. Slek created a loyal customer out of me and am so glad to have found a salon I trust with my hair! read more

I normally go the to dominican doobbie shops and I must say my hair was just as soft, shinny and bouncy and I did not have to sit under the dryer for 45 minutes. The only disadvantage is that it is very difficult to book appointments. The online availabilities do not fit my schedule. The wash and blow dry appointments are slim to none . My first appointment was achieved because I walked in and the stylist happen to be available. I was so happy with my service that I booked and paid in advance for the next four visits. Unfortunately I couldn't make my scheduled appointment and called way in advance to cancel with no problem. I called one Friday because I was leaving work early 3:30 and thought maybe I could come in for a wash and dry but unfortunately the stylist was getting ready to leave. So I ended up having to go back the the doobbie shop. The styling bar has great potential but they need a more committed person at the front desk to answer the phone. She is always too quick to get you off the phone or send you away. Although the hours are stated 6-9pm it is not factual. My first appointment they were closing at 5pm and this was on a Saturday and the day I called to try go in they were leaving at 4pm. If there was another stylist there the receptionist did not offer. Came here for the first time today with a Groupon. I got a wash, deep condish, trim, and blowout. I am extremely pleased with the job Kelly did. She took excellent care of my hair and gave great recommendations on how to care for it. The salon is clean, well appointed, and all of the stylists are nice and friendly.
