Southern Roots had great reviews and they didn't disappoint. I had my hair colored by Amy and she was wonderful! She really knows her stuff and I felt really comfortable trusting her with my hair. I've been to many salons in the past where my hair did not come out the way I wanted (cut or colored). I was seriously SO surprised at the wonderful work Amy did. I deserve to be refunded, period. - This was my first visit to Southern Roots, and while I had high hopes based on the stylist's reviews, my experience unfortunately didn't go as expected. When I left the appointment, my hair had been curled, which can easily mask issues with color or placement. It wasn't until I straightened it two days later that I saw the actual results, and it was clear that the outcome didn't match the inspo photos I shared or the conversation we had beforehand. I reached out right away with photos, and while the stylist responded kindly and offered to fix it, I ultimately decided I wasn't comfortable with another appointment. I was then told the salon doesn't offer refunds, and instead, the owner, who I did not book with would be the one to do the correction. As a first-time client, this doesn't sit well with me. I don't feel comfortable going back, and I don't believe I should have to. I am not asking for anything beyond a fair resolution, and a refund would allow me to go elsewhere and have the issue addressed by someone of my choosing. Out of respect, I won't name the stylist - I don't believe this policy is hers, and I know she's done great work for many others. But I do think the salon's refund policy and how this situation was handled deserve to be shared. I'm including photos (the inspo pictures and my result) so others can make their own judgment. I always prefer to handle these things privately, but I also believe in transparency, especially when your first experience as a client leaves you feeling dismissed.

She greeted me with a bright smile and I immediately felt she was a good person. I knew I could tell her my hair concerns and she listened. I was right about her. She asked me some important questions about what I wanted the end result to be. Then we collaborated and executed a final result that exceeded my expectations. There's more! When washing my hair she had the temperature of the water nice and perfect. She massaged my head as she shampooed my scalp. It was so relaxing. I felt I should have tipped her for that alone. The unexpected treatment continued as Becky started to use her tiny soft fingertips to massage my forehead...the sides of my head all the way down to the back of my stressed out neck. It felt sooo good.. I almost fell asleep. What a wonderful gift. I took a deep relaxed breath while trying to figure out if I was actually at a hair salon or a massage parlor? Wait ....A great hair style AND a massage ! I was lucky to get both. Becky is very approachable and easy to talk to about your hair....Which is very important because after all it is YOUR hair. You certainly want to walk away satisfied, pretty, sexy and feeling fresh and new. All of that was achieved. I couldn't be more satisfied with not only the condition, but the cut the color and also the coffee! Another hairdresser offered to make me a coffee. It was delicious! I feel like I found the gem salon in North Carolina...and I've tried others. Her 12+ years of experience under her belt is obvious as you can see her confidence in her scissors as she begins to create your personal style. She then applies the proper products to your hair that's not weighty or sticky just makes your hair swing naturally and the scent is beautiful. I gave five stars because there isn't 6. Ladies ! I would give this a 4.5 star rating for the following reasons: Isabelle was my stylist and instantly I recognized she knew what she was doing. She didn't have to explain everything she was doing and she didn't keep talking about her skills, she simply went to work. We looked at magazines to get a color scheme, and I explained what bothered me about my last haircut- and she handled the rest. I always am eager to see if a stylist can blow dry my hair smooth and straight without the assistance of a flat iron- which can be tricky with my wacky hair texture- and Isabelle delivered. Near the end, her next client showed up and yet she didn't rush through our appointment. The woman waiting (who had very long, thick curly hair) even said, "Take your time. I'd rather wait for her than let anyone else touch my hair" which was comforting. I know a hair cut can be hit or miss depending on what you're looking for and how well a stylist can execute the look. While my haircut isn't ideal (mostly due to the fact that my previous hair cut really botched my hair), I can tell the skill set is there for future cuts and colors. And price wise, I thought it was very reasonable. I got a full-head of highlights and lowlights, toner, cut and style and it came to 170.00. I've paid more than that in JAX for partial highlights and a cut. I know it's still a lot of money, but in the end, a good haircut can be worth every penny. Also, I wanted to say I went to their location at 413 Western Blvd,. I'm not sure if they moved or have two locations, but I cannot comment on the Country Club address location. She got me checked in and I waited three minutes for Alex. She cuts good hair! Bangs are banging and my hair feels great. During my cut, three other girls were taking down Christmas decorations and sweeping and mopping. Music is nice. Smiles all around, for the most part. It's just a small place but it's very nicely decorated--not your typical "strip mall" type of hair salon for sure. I always wait until just about the last minute for my appointments (meaning I decide "Oh crap, I'd really like to get my hair cut tomorrow!") and Karla was able to get me in no problem...plus she was super nice and sweet. She was very attentive to what I wanted and had some suggestions. The only thing that's a little strange is that you pay your stylist directly, and at that moment, Karla didn't take credit cards (I can't vouch for the others). But to their credit, she did take a check so at least I wasn't worried about trying to drum up some cash. (Though, if I had no form of payment on me, it feels the type of place that would likely have no problem of you coming back later to pay.) I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
