I've been to Koi Hair Salon before and had nothing but positive experiences with a different stylist who has since relocated. Because of that, I trusted booking with Koi again. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. I booked a haircut with Marnie after a thorough consultation where we agreed on blending my layers to avoid a mullet-like shape and keeping curtain bangs starting at cheekbone length. Unfortunately, the final cut didn't reflect what we discussed. The layers remained disconnected, arguably more exaggerated than before, and the bangs were cut to eyebrow length, despite me clearly saying I had only ever started them lower. I have asked for and received long layers with face framing and curtain bangs starting at cheekbone length for several years with different stylists, and I have never had a haircut so far off from what I requested. Initially, I tried to be optimistic, but once I got home and styled it myself, the cut was uneven, and some areas didn't even appear to have been cut at all, leaving the overall appearance looking unfinished. I ended up needing to book with another stylist last minute to have it redone before a trip. That meant an extra 80 minutes of overall driving, paying another stylist, and arranging another sitter, all things I hadn't anticipated or budgeted for. I had looked Marnie up beforehand and her work online looked phenomenal, which gave me confidence in booking. Unfortunately, my results and the follow-up experience didn't come close to matching what was advertised. I honestly feel catfished by the entire experience. When I reached out, her replies were almost immediate until I explained why the 50% refund she offered didn't feel fair and requested a full refund. My appointment was on July 22, and I first expressed concerns about the haircut not matching what I requested on July 23. On July 25, she offered a 50% refund, to which I replied requesting a full refund. After that, I was met with complete silence. Knowing she was going out of town, I waited a week before following up with a polite email, but I have still received no reply. I even waited until I saw availability in her schedule before posting this review because I truly wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and hoped she would respond. At this point, it's clear she is ignoring me. I am sharing this review both in hopes of still resolving the refund and to warn others. I was hopeful this could have been handled with professionalism and accountability, but the lack of follow-through has been disappointing. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend. read more

I was serviced for a hairstyle on my wedding day by Sarah and was really taken aback by her comments in regards to me being a young woman getting married. I've seen reviews in regards to her commentary on other yelp comments so I know I'm not the only one this has happened to. If you are in the service industry and your salary depends on people coming to be serviced by you, you need to learn to keep certain comments to yourself. I did not need to be belittled on my wedding day for being married young and to a service member. You can provide the best service in the world, but I will not be coming back and PAYING large sums of money for services just to be put down. Had a major hair disaster and may of not ended up with a shit ton of vasaline in my hair. If you know you know anyways came here after calling the night before to make an appointment and they did a strong cleanse on my hair and was able to get 90% of all of it out. (It was a shit ton, like half a jar). And even sent me home with a reliable cleansing product that got the rest of it out in 2 days. Based on my own experience and the 300 other women's experiences with this place, I DO NOT recommend coming here. I paid 300$ for basic highlights, even after brittney mead said it wouldn't be that much. My highlights were uneven and didn't even go up to my scalp. They were orange and my hair was fried. I asked to get it fixed and she proceeded to tell me to ask someone else. Truly disgusted. Also, they just made a huge post on their Facebook page saying they've read all of the bad reviews and they were "changing their policies" what? Why? After your names been blasted for being HORRIBLE? Nichole was great. She gave me the exact cut and trim I wanted. She also permed my hair it came about amazing. She also dose all types of braids as well. I don't trust many people with my hair. I'm coming from Texas and it's hard to find a good salon any where. They always want to do what they want instead of what I want. I would definitely suggest Koi and Nicole. I have never had the opportunity to go to Koi, but I have been lucky enough to have their new stylist, Marnie! From tips about the gym to the salon chair, Marnie has had a HUGE impact on who I am and how amazing(!!!) my hair looks. I had no clue what I wanted when I sat in her chair at Del Ara for the first time in 2020, but she saw something in my hair that was special. She cares so much about her clients, guides them through each visit, and is transparent about each thing she does, from the fine details to the big chops. Every time your in the chair with Marnie it's not only getting the best hair service, but it's also building a relationship with the amazing person that she is. When visiting family, I always decide to get my hair cut in Jacksonville rather than Philadelphia - don't ask me why, it makes no sense to me either. Anyway, I have been jumping around salons each time, forking over forty plus dollars for haircuts that I loathed. The last one gave me chunk bangs... enough said. So, when I booked an appointment at Koi with Elle, I was nervous and ready for disappointment as per usual. However, I was genuinely surprised when Elle could immediately see where my last stylist went wrong and was able to convince me to get bangs again. Best. Decision. Ever. Elle was able to trim a few inches off, add long layers, and curtain bangs that didn't look like a kindergartener had attempted them. She also was able to do all of this and style my hair so quickly, whereas the last salon I went to took ages to wrangle my hair. Furthermore, Elle was very easy to talk to and made the experience much less nerve wracking. I went into have a purple strick toned down. I needed a clarification shampoo washed in my hair. They decided to remove it and redo it all for the low price of 200.00. I'm disabled and have to have my hair washed and blown out weekly. I spend 100.00 a month for that, I had just gotten my red refreshed and my purple put back in but the stylist used a extremely bright and dark purple. That and a trim was only 85.00. Being on a fixed income it was a true blessing. read more

I am fairly new to the area and was looking for a colorist and I'm so glad I found Koi Hair Salon and that I got in with Sarah Jones. After going to another salon first and leaving with spotty yellow orange hair, I was in Sarah's chair for 7 hours, but let me tell you, Sarah is so fun to be around and very knowledgeable!! She walked me though every step and made me feel comfortable. Not only that but she completely transformed my hair and I couldn't be happier!! Today! I had a salon experience that surpassed the ordinary hair appointment. I was fortunate enough to be a new client with Becky Sinclair. She greeted me with a bright smile and I immediately felt she was a good person. I knew I could tell her my hair concerns and she listened. I was right about her. She asked me some important questions about what I wanted the end result to be. Then we collaborated and executed a final result that exceeded my expectations. There's more! When washing my hair she had the temperature of the water nice and perfect. She massaged my head as she shampooed my scalp. It was so relaxing. I felt I should have tipped her for that alone. The unexpected treatment continued as Becky started to use her tiny soft fingertips to massage my forehead...the sides of my head all the way down to the back of my stressed out neck. It felt sooo good.. I almost fell asleep. What a wonderful gift. I took a deep relaxed breath while trying to figure out if I was actually at a hair salon or a massage parlor? Wait ....A great hair style AND a massage ! I was lucky to get both. Becky is very approachable and easy to talk to about your hair....Which is very important because after all it is YOUR hair. You certainly want to walk away satisfied, pretty, sexy and feeling fresh and new. All of that was achieved. I couldn't be more satisfied with not only the condition, but the cut the color and also the coffee! Another hairdresser offered to make me a coffee. It was delicious! I feel like I found the gem salon in North Carolina...and I've tried others. I'm staying with Koi Salon and my new girl Becky, as I honestly feel that she has welcomed me here and worked to make me feel pleased with the results. She understood my wants, what I was looking for in my hair journey and she came thru for me. My hair feels healthy and shiny, bouncy and sexy. As I left the salon, I wanted to made a future appointment, I also bought her suggested hair product that makes those with fine hair look like you have much more. It's was great stuff. Her 12+ years of experience under her belt is obvious as you can see her confidence in her scissors as she begins to create your personal style. She then applies the proper products to your hair that's not weighty or sticky just makes your hair swing naturally and the scent is beautiful. I gave five stars because there isn't 6. Ladies ! Koi Hair Salon is the place that will not only lift your spirits with a beautiful shampoo,cut, color and blowout but a place where you can make an investment with your hair to the best care.
