First time getting a haircut at this location, as I've been a resident of Hamden since the end of last year. The vibe was decent, salon was clean. I had a very nice experience when being asked what brought me in to the salon, the lady behind the counter was incredibly kind. Super polite and had a radiant smile on her face. My hair was a hot mess - different lengths and all over the place. I needed a touch up aka fixed. Hence my reasoning for coming to SuperCuts. The stylist who did my hair was nice, for the most part. Here is what got me upset and quite disappointed.. She thought cutting my hair short (above by ear short) would be the best option. No, absolutely not. I've had short hair in the past. Those days are gone, no more. So the stylist fixed my hair and it was sitting right under my ears and I was so happy with the results. I don't want it cut any shorter. Well, that didn't last long. What I didn't want happening took place. The stylist asked me what I thought and I replied with "I like it, I really like it" with a fake grin. My mind was all over the place and I couldn't process my thoughts at that moment. Yes I was frustrated but couldn't get myself to say it. I'm truly disappointed with the outcome. People gawk and make fun of me. I'm embarrassed. Nobody should have to feel that way about their hair whatsoever. To top it off, questioning the person I was with about his family was uncalled for. Sat there for 20 minutes waiting to be acknowledged. I was trying to be patient as they were with other customers and didn't want to interrupt their conversations. The one stylist started counting money and cleaning up. Finally I said how long till someone will be free. Then she stated that they were already full for the night and they thought I was with another customer. No one else was in the store. Wasted 20 minutes of my time because none of the staff thought to say hi and ask me what I needed. Frustrated by this simple oversight in customer service that needlessly took up my time. read more

I showed up at 3:40 PM on a Sunday and online and outside their shop it says that they close at 4 PM. They refused to take me even though technically their store was still OPEN until 4 PM. When I asked, it was because they said they are preparing to close and will no longer take me. Horrible business, please take your money elsewhere. Started coming here about 4 months ago because it's a pain in the a$$ tryin to get appointments with any area barber shop. Kelsey was my stylist. I receive more continuous compliments about the haircut from everyone each time I get it cut, including strangers. When asked where and I say "Supercuts" they give me the . You Gotta see Kelsey. She's my go-to from now on and I've been everywhere to try and find the right fit of a good cut, price and convenience/availability of stylist. She checks off every box. I have been getting my hair cut from Supercuts in Hamden Connecticut. I would recommend this salon to everyone for the last five years or so. They are like one big happy family in that salon! I have multiple sclerosis and I am in a wheelchair and I am treated like gold every time I go in that salon. They go out of their way to open the door on entry and when leaving. This staff helps me get into the chair to get my hair washed and then into another chair to get it cut. Jodi goes above and beyond to complete the services all of the time. I have spent the last year letting my hair grow out a short cut, and finally it was long enough to wear a hairstyle that I used to wear. I showed the girl a picture of the back of my own head from a year-ish ago and asked for her to do this. Nothing difficult, just a bit of layer. I asked her to not cut the length at all, just blend in to the shortest layer which should have been about 3" long. When she started cutting I said, that feels like you are cutting length. She attempted to gaslight me that this was what I asked for. She cut the back of my hair to about 1". Now it will be next year before I have my hair back. I left in tears with an unfinished haircut. She said she would not charge me which was laughable, as if I would pay for anyone to completely ignore what I wanted and hack the back of my hair off. I begged another salon to let me walk in and they were wonderful enough to make it in to some semblance of a hairstyle. I know that this place is a revolving door there with employees starting and leaving and I wish I had gotten her name as I am sure someone there is good and I would rather single her out. I am sure they will come back and try to further gaslight this incident, but that was the worst experience I have ever had anywhere getting a simple haircut. read more

this place is absolutely horrible I asked for a shoulder length cut (mind you i have curly hair) and the curls shrink up making it even shorter which this lady did not consider. she chopped it off all in one section WAY too short on one side and then I had to stick with the terrible short hair she gave me. she then proceeded to put in layers they were the choppiest layers I've seen in my life. I couldn't get out of there fast enough I immediately started crying when I got in my car. I can't even put my hair up fully and I've never not been able to do that. worse haircut experience of my entire life truly. Usually ok but recently was by far the worst experience I've had getting my haircut. The hair stylist did a rush job on my haircut. It made me feel like she did not care if the haircut turned out nice or not and it made me very uncomfortable. Furthermore, the environment was very unprofessional and I came out of the place annoyed and with a butchered haircut. It was not what I wanted, it wasn't finished and some spots on my head now look plain sloppy. They lost my business from now on. read more

Sandy is a great stylist. Always does a great job on my hair and is very kind and welcoming to her customers. She is difficult to see due to her popularity and Supercuts' nasty call ahead policy. I pray that one day she can get out and open her own salon. Some of the other stylists and receptionists are downright nasty and unprofessional to customers. My boyfriend is military and was visiting on leave. He had to get a haircut in a pinch and unfortunately went here. First off, the receptionist is RUDE, as if she couldn't be bothered to do her job. He told the stylist that he wanted a high-and-tight, 0 on the sides, 2 on top. She looked horrified at the request, scrambled to find the guard for the cut. Then she pressed hard at the base of his head with the clippers, which made an obvious, awkward, red square mark. Then she struggled with the rest. Needless to say she didn't give him what he wanted. There was still hair on the sides. Make sure you confirm the "stylist" can actually do a high-and-tight if that's what you want. Better yet don't go here, ever. She lives up to her reputation in terms of her personable way of interacting, her professionalism and her competence as a hair cutter. She models the level of professionalism I expect for a salon; my only regret is that I don't see that attitude/behavior from the other stylists I've come across since going there. This place is not worthy of even 1 star, if I could choose a negative number to rate them I would. I went to the place at 1:00 pm to get my haircut, was told I would need an appointment, so I booked an appointment for 2:30 pm the same day, there were only 2 hairdressers at the time, so I went shopping got a coffee and returned at 2:20 pm. I notified the girl I was there and sat down, as I was sitting there waiting to get my haircut, three other people came in and booked appointments, and sat down, I also noticed 3 other hairdressers came in and were getting ready for their shift, the three new hairdressers seemed like they just had an argument with their husband (or wife), there was no professionalism at all, they looked liked they were pissed off at the world, anyway, the three people that came in after me, all proceeded to get their haircut, and when I questioned the girl that took my appointment (it was 3:40 pm at this time) all she said was, "well sometimes that happens, sorry" I left immediately, and felt like expressing my vulgar self to the whole place, but didn't because I didn't want to lower my standards, in fact, I don't think I could lower myself to their ultra low standards, what a waste of my time. Please take the time to go to professional experienced established hairdressers, it may cost a little more but certainly worth it. You get what you pay for, and I paid the high price of wasting my time for nothing. read more

So I went to this supercuts for the last time this weekend. The staff is almost always surly and no matter who cuts... It's always a hack job. 3 different stylists and they never get it right. I wish I could post a picture because the last time was so uneven I had to go to a professional to get it fixed. I would never recommend letting anyone cut or color your hair at this location. And they charge the same no matter whether you need a trim or something as intricate as a layered style. Do yourself a favor and pay to get it done right at a salon. Even Academy Di Capelli (a school/studio) does a better job than this place. Get a student to do it better for less if money is the issue. read more

I have been going to this Supercuts for over 15 years (180 +/- haircuts). In that time, I have had two haircuts that were disastrous and they were from the same hair dresser. Furthermore, I look the Supercuts hairdressers and staff as family and discuss everything from our children to pets. Gail is the best! I've been going to her for years, as have others. She makes you forget you're in a Supercuts. She follows directions as you'd want, but she also offers suggestions. When Gail hasn't been there, some stylists have been great & some not. It's tough to predict, which is why I appreciate the reliability of a long-term employee. My only complaint is that I can't find their prices listed online, which is annoying when the prices change unexpectedly & I want to pay with cash. Forget the bad reviews & ask for Gail!!! read more

I've been using supercuts in Boston for the past 5 years for haircuts. I must preface this review by saying that I got a great haircut. Upon walking in, there must have just been some sort of verbal altercation because I overheard many of the women gossiping about it at the front desk. As I'm put in the chair I was asked "just a haircut, right?" In the past at supercuts, I had usually been given a wash to start even if indicating just a haircut was wanted. She sprayed my hair down with a water bottle, which I didn't mind as I always shower after haircuts. My hairdresser was extremely nice and friendly. However, in only the 15 minutes I was seated in the chair, I heard her complain about their "poor quality scissors", the troubles working with women, the "shitty" day they were having with customers, and other quips and complaints. At one point she said she was "glad she checked" as I had a long uncut piece of hair hanging down. Overall, I ended up getting 3" cut off, angles and layers freshened, and side bangs cut in under 15 minutes! I was definitely scared to look in the mirror as I'm not sure how thorough the haircut was. It ended up looking really nice, I just felt mildly uncomfortable. I will say you definitely get what you pay for, as the base rate for the haircut was $14.95. read more
