Super Scam Wings.
My Girlfriend and I purchased a new beach umbrella from Super Wings on September 22, 2014. After only 1 hour of use in a light breeze, the pole bent near the base and the top of the umbrella separated from the pole. Upon examination, it appeared the pole was fabricated from a woefully inadequate, thin gauge of tubing (it can be deformed simply by pinching it with ones fingers). The joint between where top and the pole separated was only glued together with an obviously, inferior adhesive.
We attempted to return the umbrella on 9/24/14 but were curtly rebuffed by the rude store manager, him saying "the store policy only allows returns within 24 Hrs." Indeed, the policy is written on the bottom of the receipt, however it is not displayed anywhere in the store, nor was it announced verbally at the time of purchase, hence no one would know the policy until after the purchase.
I question the legality of such a policy, especially when the product was defective. In my home state, New York, retail vendors must exchange or refund defective merchandise within 14 days of purchase and their refund/exchange policy must be displayed clearly at the point of purchase, I would think North Carolina offers similar protection to the consumer. I filed a complaint with the NC department of consumer affairs. read more
