10/10 best customer service and totally fair prices!! The owner, Cath was so friendly and helpful. She pointed out the different levels of kites she had available. Pointed us toward different ones my kids might like and showed us the various price points. There is a huge selection of kites, but also lots of things to keep you or your children entertained. There were gifts, puzzles, card games, other games and toys, as well as dog bandannas and even hand sewn kites made by her folks. I truly felt all the prices were way more fair than some of the more well known shops around the area. We got a 51" butterfly kite that flew easily for less than forty bucks!! It is beautiful and well made, and if you are a true enthusiast you have the opportunity to have fancy one of a kind trick kites. She also gave me some sewing tips that I intend to put to use! This is an amazing shop with a great owner who took the time to talk to us and answer all our questions about the area and what we were buying! Went into this store twice while in Corolla; customer service was exceptional. So friendly and knowledgeable with all of the kites and games in the store. We bought a kite, a couple of small toys and went back and got two games. We're on our journey back home and my 6 YO son is loving his new cube game that is like a hands on Tetris. Unbelievable experience each time we go to the Outer Banks! Ignore any miserable haters posting here. What the great majority is saying here is the truth: these folks are friendly, helpful, and are an independent business -- the type we should go to FIRST. I am from Pittsburgh, and bought my kite from them seven years ago. I forgot how to assemble my kite -- and didn't want to break it -- and the very gentlemanly and friendly owner looked at the BAG and rattled off the EXACT kite it was, and what it was for (we had asked him way back when for advice on a kite that could be used both at the beach and at home). These people are passionate about what they do, and they genuinely care for the experience that we as individuals have. You can spend all the time you want at kittyhawk kites but when you visit this independent kite shop, you will be overcome by the helpful and experienced owners. They are one of a few locations that offer the world class revolution series of quadlines. Definitely worth the drive if you enjoy kites. They also offer discounts to American Kitefliers Association members! We bought a powerfoil from khkites but from flying smiles we have now purchased a box kite, a small powersled, a mini silk kite, an ultralight delta and finally a revolution. The experience I had at Flying Smiles Kites was outstanding! I walked in the store looking to find a simple LED light for my kite so I could fly it on the beach at night. The owners were so kind and welcoming and found me exactly what I needed. They even took the time to explain how it worked and how I could replace or fix the battery if needed. We're in Corolla for a week and we've been three times. We bought a bunch of kites my kids and nephews and before we got to fly them, poles went missing. I returned to the store and they offered great support at a very reasonable price ($3 for two full sets of poles). The owner helped us pick out easy to fly kites for the kids and had models of the Delta and Diamond kites at the register to show us how to assemble them. Prices were reasonable and they carry a range of other great toys and games. Really wonderful people to interact with, glad we stopped in there to get the kites instead of one of the beach superstores in the area. read more

We have shopped in this store for ourselves and for gifts for over 15 years, we always have sent our family there when they come visit for puzzles and kites but last week when they went for another kite, they said that there was political T shirts and hats and it turned them off so much that they left the store without buying anything. Best to not get political when you're running a business, it's unavoidable that you're going to upset someone on either side of the political divide. Keep politics out of a kites and games store and you'll make more sales. Sorry- you've lost our family's business. read more

I've never been to the store in person, but I've been buying my kite gear from Cath and Eliot over the phone for years, from a $700 Rev package to little single-line kites. Every time I call, they talk me through what I'm asking for and make sure I'm getting what I really need and want. Just got back from our OBX vacation and one of the first things I'm doing is writing this review. This owner run shop is as good as it gets. I went in needing some kite string, and ended up buying a fairly inexpensive kite as well. Far as I'm concerned $15 for a kite in a kite store, in a touristy area like OBX is a heck of a deal.......and it's a quality kite! After my kids got the string twisted every which way, I went back to see the owner only too happy to help me fix the tangled mess that my kids had created. Most shop owners would have pointed me back to the less expensive kites to buy a new one......not here. I was back out on the beach in 20 minutes to enjoy our last few days with a great kite. I needed 3 kites repaired, and Cath and her husband (the owners) made them actually BETTER than new (at least more sturdy). They also gave some great advice and werent afraid to spending time with me to make sure I had everything I needed to get started with my stunt kite (its been year since Ive last flown).
