Since new owner. Not impressed. Sad actually, super sub was an icon of a business, real part of history of hessiville.All gone now.

Fast forward 2023 the sandwiches are now 14 and $15 a piece and I don't think so they can stick them.

the worst "reuben" i've ever had. Turano bread is usually good, but not in this case. it had the flavor and texture comparable to how i'd imagine a wet sock would taste. soggy beyond belief. speaking of soggy, the peppers didn't help in this case. this "reuben" was also LOADED with the most mid pickles i've had from a sandwich place. only mcdonald's has pickles that are worse. my buddy commented on his, "i feel like i just ate a vinegar sandwich." it seemed like there was cheese on it, however undetectable underneath all of the residual pickle juice after i picked the sandwich clean of them. the corned beef would be comparable to how (i'd imagine) a lot lizard would taste after a hard night's work. completely unpalatable. how i took more than 3 bites is unfathomable. oh, and no thousand island either. this soggy pickle and "meat" cart is an abomination unto the reuben. a reuben should, at the very least, have rye bread and 1k island dressing. both are MIA, and any kind of flavor is a POW to pickle juice. i've given this place a chance one too many times. i will not be going here again, as every time i've tried, i've been sorely disappointed. third time's the charm, i guess. take care and thanks for reading, i'll be throwing up now. read more

Was looking forward to an old Hammond favorite and realized they moved next door and combined with Key Pizza. So I decided to stop in . Just a fyi cold turkey sandwich and bottle of water is over $16.00!! Yes, it was a hard pass for me. Turano Bread, turkey deli meat and cheese is now sold at the price of steak, guess the customers have to pay for the new location and remodeling, never again. Not sure what someone is smoking, but you can get a 6oz Serloin two sides and all the bread you can stuff in you mouth at Texas Roadhouse for two people in comparison to a Turkey Sandwich a water. read more

Been a patron of the place since 1985. Agreed times gave changed. Gonnella is no longer delivering bread. The ladies working the kitchen are semi retired. In case you haven't noticed the price of food everywhere has increased. That said, had the usual Reuben and the All Meat sandwiches. High quality and delicious as always. I always loved this place. I know it changed ownership recently, but was in the area so decided to get again. I got the usual plain hot beef sandwich. Still good, but, wow....$9.10 with tax for a plain beef sandwich? I'm all for supporting mom and pop places, but that's just too much. Super Sub (for years locally and affectionately known as "Super Slug") USED to have absolutely the BEST sub-type sandwiches in the area, bar none. The food was top notch and you received a bun-filled sandwich. You'd better be hungry to stop at Super Sub! That's how it USED to be. However, perhaps due to the new Owners, the sandwiches now contain MUCH less quantity and the quality has gone down. And the prices have gone up, to boot. PLUS, as of the end of 2019 the business FINALLY takes credit / debit cards, but charge a fee for that. To the Owners: Stop the greed, take a few pennies less, and forget the fee for cards. No thanks. After DECADES of being a good, loyal, customer, we can no longer recommend Super Submarine. It's truly disheartening to watch what was, at one time, the absolute best 'sub shop' in NWI go so far downhill. Perhaps, now, it's just time for SS to just close it's doors. Sad. read more

A delicious hole in the wall, in the middle of nowhere. I have been been coming to this place for over 20 years. I usually go for the corned beef or the ham cheese sub. I've had everything in this place but mostly stick to the ones mentioned above. I ask for dry beef so the bun isn't soaked when I'm ready to eat. Just my preference. It's not your normal sub place in some regards, it is a old deli counter covered in the charity donations cards from numerous charitable customers and a couple outdoor tables inside. That is about it. They do not offer the normal extras on subs that you would think. I believe, it is just pickles and peppers. And mustard and mayo. No tomatoes, lettuce, onions, etc. I always go with the pickles and peppers on the side, and put them on according to my taste or eat them plain on the side. Super Submarine is a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall.. And most consistent sub place in northwest Indiana area. It is delicious and never disappoints. Hope this review was helpful. read more

Meat and Cheeses are fresh. Bread is Fresh Gonnella Bread. Same owner since about 1980. Nice to see this place still around. I have been eating Super Subs since I was a little girl (forty plus years ago) and very little about this place has changed - including the prices! The Super All Meat and the Beef sandwiches are my personal favorites but the BBQ is another family favorite. The pickles are delish. The sandwich wrapping is always a treat. It is always some kind of wax-coated rolls of paper - sometimes from Tootsie-Pops or where ever they can get the paper from. I come from a long, proud line of very picky beef sandwich eaters. I don"t want to have to dissect my sandwich and cut pieces of funk out of it while I'm eating. I just want to enjoy... and here I am always assured that the beef is lean and tasty! For a modest appetite, plan to split a sandwich. They are big. Don't let the old sign and funky interior fool you. Super Sub is a gem on Kennedy Avenue in the Hessville part of Hammond. read more

This really is a very good sub spot.I used to love coming here between classes when I was a student at Purdue Cal. The Super All-Meat Sub is probably their best sandwich. The hot beef w/banana peppers is excellent as well. They also have some of the best macaroni salad you'll ever eat in your life! And that's coming from someone who's not even the biggest fan of macaroni salad.If I had to name one negative about the place, it's that they're pretty limited on topping choices for your sub. It's not like Subway where you have dozens to choose from. It's pretty much pickles, peppers, mayo,&mustard. No lettuce, no tomatoes, no onions, no olives, no vinegar & oil, nothing! This is to Domino J. I don't know why you gave this place such a bad rating, maybe you had a bad day or something. Maybe you should give them another try. If you haven't notice you're the only one that gave them a bad review. Places like this don't stay open for over forty + years if there food is as bad as you say it is. The only other places that have been around for that long,are McDonald's and Burger King. I talked to the owner the last time I was there, he said there trying to sell the place, because there tired and wants to retire. I would hope you would give them other chance so they don't have to retire with a bad note on there record, these are good people. There retirement is a good thing for them but a sad thing for the rest of us, who enjoyed there food so much. read more

The experience was great, the food came early and as always the hot beef sandwich was very good.

A lot of people love this place; being that I have lived here all my life I think it is because it brings back some memories as a youth to the locals and since it has been around forever there is a certain loyalty to the place. Walking in one notices right away the inside decor is as ancient as the sign on the building.. It's a typical blue collar sandwich joint...get it and go.. Don't ask for lettuce..they don't carry lettuce..owner told me once "its not profitable to buy lettuce because at the end of the day it goes bad" Speaking of the owner..he's a tough old man and very outspoken..but he's a good guy..one of the region's originals..the staff is nice and the prices are very affordable. A sub from here is exactly what it is..a sub. If I moved away and came back to visit, I wouldn't make a point to make sure I went there.. But overall I would say it is average. Just a quick additional note: We always buy the beef sandwich with cheese, which I am unable to finish. In the past, I would eat it cold, or warm it in the microwave the next day. Today I discovered a WONDERFUL new option. I opened the cold sandwich and laid it face down on a hot (nonstick) skillet until it was brown and crispy, then flipped it and did the same on the other side. All I can say is, "Mmmmmmmmmmm...." Went in one time and the lady had an attitude and the sandwich was horrible. How do you mess up a sandwich??
