My daughter attends this school for swimming and it has gone really well. She started at 5 months…read moreand has graduated to level 2 already! Now, the only gripe I have about the school is when they have subs for the normal swim teachers. I understand that life happens, but when the sub seems clueless to how the class is organized, it becomes frustrating. Not only for the babies, but also for the parents paying the school fee. I have seen it a few times where the parents are complaining about the class. The training could be a little cleaner or at least have a veteran teacher with someone who is new. Overall a great experience and will recommend the school to any babies or kids who need to learn swimming!

I decided to put the classes on hold after one billing period due to vacation plans. Gave them 30 days notice as requested. So there should be 10 lessons in total which ends today, July 26. My husband took kids to lesson yesterday July 25. He thought swim lessons has ended because instructor told him yesterday was the last session. I knew today's the last lesson at the back of my head because we have received only 9 sessions so far. I had to call them to ask why it was cancelled. No explanation given. They reinstated my session immediately. If you like this swim school, good for you. Pricing is competitive and kids have extracurricular activities. However I won't be signing up for another billing cycle due to their glitchy useless app for private classes, subpar lessons and overwhelmed instructors who take a few minutes off of each session. Below is more insight into my personal experience. Keep reading if you are interested. - I had the perfect disaster month of the year to sign up. June to July. Fourth of July fell on a Thursday this year. As a result, my Thursday session was cancelled. And they also cancelled Friday 7/5. No cancellation notifications received. We showed up for Friday lesson. Had to come back home. No makeup passes were issued - I had to call multiple times to schedule two makeup classes because they cannot schedule more than three days in advance for private lessons. I don't have any power in the app because I signed up for semi-private lessons. They have to do it from their end. Paid more money for zero convenience. Want app power? Go for regular classes that share time with three other kids. Your child will receive instructions for about 7 minutes per session and watch his/her classmates for 23 minutes. We see it as a complete waste of time. Upgrade to private classes and pay more. You will lose app control. We had a makeup class on a busy Wednesday evening. All swim lanes were occupied. My kids were pushed to the stairs near the exit and handicapped chair. My daughter kept hitting the chair everytime she comes out of water. This is the kind of treatment you will get here for paying more money for private classes. Messy management and the front desk has no idea what they are doing. My calls were always put on hold while they find out answers for me. Manager Gillian was only interested in selling the plan to us during first visit. No more interactions afterwards even though I see her behind the desk time to time. These 30 minutes lessons always end 3-4m early. No I do not appreciate that. Let kids stay in water for full 30 then discuss progress with parents after. Also I find instructors feedback are very generalized and not really helpful to parents. We worked with 3-4 different instructors over the past month. My kids favorite was coach Rachel but she often seem overworked. School has plenty of changing rooms so you don't have to worry in that department. Bathrooms are maintained clean. However, One swim dryer has been broken for the entire month we were there. They never fixed it. Overall this is a shady place that's not fully transparent with their operating practices. Also from my personal analysis there's a certain skill ceiling for kids here. They won't become swim experts because management is only trying to squeeze money out of your wallet for long run. Interest to kids progress comes second to them.

Big Blue Swim School - Our professional instructors go through extensive training to give your child the experience and consistency they need

They take the time…read moreto actually help the kids improve, and each instructor is engaged and friendly with the kids. Another pro is that the kids get to stay in the water (on a ledge/seat) when they're waiting their turn - my son used to complain about being cold when he'd have to get out and wait his turn at the other places (even though it's 100 degrees in those pool areas! ). One suggestion for improvement is their online parent portal- it's gotten better since we've started going here but still could be easier to navigate.

We have had a largely positive experience with Big Blue Swim School, and it is easily one of the…read moremost professional child-focused businesses we've encountered. The Pros: From a business operations standpoint, Big Blue is top-notch. The facility is impressively clean, and the pool design is specifically optimized to facilitate effective lessons. Their website integration is seamless, making scheduling and tracking progress very easy. What really stands out is their framework for instruction. While there is a constant churn of instructors (which seems inevitable in this industry), the quality remains remarkably consistent. We've encountered poor instructors at other swim schools in the past, but every teacher here has been great. They clearly have a rigorous training program in place. Most importantly, they achieved a huge milestone for us: they helped my son get over his fear of putting his head in the water. He now has no qualms about it at all, which was a major hurdle for him. The Cons: Ratios and Policies There are two main drawbacks. First, the 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio feels a bit high. On days when only two kids show up, my son does noticeably better. When the class is at the full four-student capacity, the progress feels diluted. Second, the cancellation policy is quite consumer-unfriendly. They require an unusually long four-week notice to end a subscription. It feels excessive to be locked into another full month of payments once you've decided to move on or your child's needs have changed. It's a rigid policy that feels more about guaranteed revenue than it does about accommodating families. Why We Are Moving On (For Now) We are currently canceling our subscription because our son has hit a plateau. At his current level, the focus is almost entirely on swimming face-down with arms extended on a barbell floatie, relying solely on kicking for momentum. He starts strong but loses breath and momentum 75% of the way across the pool. It feels like all other aspects of his swimming development have been put on pause until he masters this one specific skill. Since he hasn't been able to clear this hurdle for a while, we've decided to seek alternative instruction to see if a different approach helps him break through. Overall: We would still recommend Big Blue for their professionalism and ability to build water confidence. We are open to rejoining in the future once he has progressed further elsewhere.

The whole facility is very clean and nice, and it's affiliated with GMU. People from Mason were practicing things like color guard in some of the spaces. The rec center also looks like the run a daycare for parents who work out, so you might want to check it out if you live in PWC. The cost was $10 for adults and $7 for kids. It's the same for those inside and outside of the county. The pool area features: -a big lap pool -a "beach" going in to the leisure pool -splash buckets that topple over! -a "lazy channel"--a very miniature lazy river. It goes pretty slow. Too lazy for us! -a hot tub -a whirlpool section with jets that push you around in a circle! This was my daughter's favorite part! -a very fun looking slide with twists and turns. Must be 48 inches to ride, but it wasn't on today anyway. Not a bad plan B on a cold January day :)

You have to pay a fee to use any of the equipment and facility perks! I believe its $8 a day and or $25 for 8 punches. I checked out their open volleyball gym! To get access, apparently they limit to 39 people per session; you pick up passes (as early as an hour and 15 mins prior) to get a spot. Competition isn't bad; there are various levels and people that come out to play. The lobby are is a bit dim but the staff are helpful! Would come back for volleyball and to perhaps check out their gym / pool. Not my first choice but its a spot for nearby locals to check out! 6.4/10 recommend!

They did not use up to date lifting techniques and the equipment was subpar. I decided to leave. Later the owner, Beth, called me up and did not ask why I decided to leave during the class or why I no longer wanted to join but instead she told me they have a drop in rate of $20 per class and she was calling to get a payment by phone. I told her I was never told about a fee. Of course she didn't mention this "fee" before I went into the class, it is not posted on their reception desk, not on the door, and not on their website. I was not at a position where I could stay on the phone and told her I had to go and would search the website again to see if perhaps I had missed the fees notification. She then started getting rude with me. When I got home I searched the website again and their group class schedule and again no mention of any "drop in" fees. This place may do better if they charged a $5 drop in fee just to use the gym or sauna but I wouldn't bother with the classes.

We signed up for private swim classes for my 3-year-old at KIDS FIRST Swim School in Springfield…read more Before starting, we clearly explained that our son is not used to new adults and that we wanted the same instructor consistently so he could feel comfortable and build trust. Unfortunately, almost every week there was a cancellation or instructor change. Out of 6 classes, my son had about 5 different instructors. For a young child who needs consistency, this was very stressful. Each class felt like starting over because he had to adjust to a new adult again, so there was little to no improvement. After about 3 weeks, I complained to the head instructor. Instead of listening or helping, he seemed frustrated and raised his voice back at me, basically saying he already knew. That was very disappointing. My biggest concern is that they require families to schedule private lessons far in advance, but they could not provide a consistent instructor for the set day and time. We chose private lessons specifically for consistency, and they did not deliver that. For families with very young children, especially children who need time to get comfortable with new people, I would not recommend this location for private lessons. It ended up being a huge waste of time and money for us.

I took his "treading water" clinic and in 10 minutes, I was treading water effortlessly; something I've struggled doing for years and even after taking numerous lessons with private instructors (not affiliated with SwimBox). He's taught for 22+ years! and it shows. He simply knows how to coach all the minute details in swimming mechanics. I've always 'm someone with a high muscle to fat ratio and have ALWAYS sank like a rock. He taught me 3 styles to use my hands to tread and 4 styles using my feet. He demonstrated things in the water (such as corkscrews) that I've never seen/heard of before. He's very friendly and personable as well. I've taken the swim analysis and it was super helpful/beneficial. Looking forward to signing up for more classes! Highly recommend!

Basically, vacation-style swimming where you jump off a boat, tread for a bit, and swim back to the boat. I asked if I could learn this at SwimBox. I was told I could. If they don't teach this, they should have said so. Instead, I took 10 classes and was never taught either of these things. The instructor, as usual, wasted time in the beginning treating me like I'm afraid of water. I can already swim underwater and on my back (not expertly, of course). Instructors should start off with new swimmers by allowing them to show what they can already do vs. starting them with blowing bubbles and floating. At SwimBox, they have no incentive to move you along quickly since dragging out the lessons equals more classes, which equals more money for them. I gave the instructor the benefit of the doubt that she was teaching me some basic things I needed to know. However, as the classes went along, I noticed we were headed towards what I feared -- teaching me freestyle swimming and perfecting my form. This IS NOT what I asked to learn! I don't plan to swim laps or join the Olympics. When I clarified again that I wanted to learn to swim with my head above water, she dismissed that type of swimming as not real swimming. Well, that's how people swim socially and that's what I asked, upfront, to learn. Finally, I was lied to when I was told we would work on treading water, which is the MAIN THING that I wanted to learn. The pools are, obviously, not deep, but I was duped into believing I would still be taught. Each time I take swim lessons, they teach what they want to teach. I will just have to get a friend to teach me because formal instructors are apparently hard wired to teach every new swimmer freestyle. I wasted my money.
