Now, the only gripe I have about the school is when they have subs for the normal swim teachers. I understand that life happens, but when the sub seems clueless to how the class is organized, it becomes frustrating. Not only for the babies, but also for the parents paying the school fee. I have seen it a few times where the parents are complaining about the class. The training could be a little cleaner or at least have a veteran teacher with someone who is new. Overall a great experience and will recommend the school to any babies or kids who need to learn swimming!

One of the…read morebiggest issues has been the complete lack of consistency--not only with the coaches, but also with what was actually being taught from lesson to lesson or even coach to coach. The quality of instruction varied tremendously depending on the coach. Some coaches would spend much of the lesson standing in the pool and singing the songs, while others actually provided helpful feedback, worked on specific swim skills, and took the time to get to know the children they were teaching. There was also constant turnover. Over the two years we attended, our son was given a new coach multiple times. Often, the new coach didn't seem to know anything about his strengths, what he had already learned, or what he was capable of doing. Instead of taking the time to get acquainted with their group they would sometimes simply move into whatever activity was planned. I understand the timing but it didn't feel authentic but rather check marks. It made it difficult to feel like he was consistently building on what he had learned due to so many changes Cancellations were another major frustration. Lessons were consistently cancelled due to staff call-outs or other issues or staff shortages, which left us accumulating countless makeup passes. We ultimately cancelled our membership and are now trying to use up all of those makeup passes, which honestly feels like we are using them simply because we have them rather than because we are getting much value from the lessons. The one coach we cannot say enough positive things about is Josh. If we could take him with us to our next swim school, we absolutely would. Josh took the time to genuinely get to know our son, understand his abilities, and build on the skills he already had. He looked like he actually wanted to be there, was engaged throughout the lesson, and genuinely seemed to care about the children he was teaching. He showed us what the experience could have been and so much more. It's sad because we really wanted this program to work. Even with a discount, the cost feels extremely high for the limited skill progression, frequent coaching changes, inconsistent instruction, and constant cancellations we experienced. After giving it two years, we ultimately decided it was time to move on. We are very unhappy with the overall experience and hope our next swim school provides more consistency and actual skill development.

Overall, we've had a positive experience and are grateful for the role Big Blue played in helping our kids become comfortable and confident in the water. One of the biggest advantages is the convenience. The lessons are structured efficiently, making it easy to get in and out without a huge time commitment. The app was also convenient with scheduling, rescheduling, and booking makeup classes. The instructors deserve a lot of credit. They consistently showed incredible patience, even with very young children and varying skill levels. We also had positive interactions with Brenden, the general manager, who was always friendly, helpful, and professional. The main reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5 is the class size ratio. After the baby classes, our experience was typically a 1:3 instructor-to-student ratio. We found our kids learned best when there were only two students in the class. With 3 children, lessons could sometimes feel crowded, and occasionally a disruptive child would impact the amount of instruction and practice time each swimmer received. That said, Big Blue provided a strong foundation for our children, and we're thankful for the experience. Our kids are now moving on to private lessons, but Big Blue helped them develop the comfort and confidence in the water needed to take that next step.

The whole facility is very clean and nice, and it's affiliated with GMU. People from Mason were practicing things like color guard in some of the spaces. The rec center also looks like the run a daycare for parents who work out, so you might want to check it out if you live in PWC. The cost was $10 for adults and $7 for kids. It's the same for those inside and outside of the county. The pool area features: -a big lap pool -a "beach" going in to the leisure pool -splash buckets that topple over! -a "lazy channel"--a very miniature lazy river. It goes pretty slow. Too lazy for us! -a hot tub -a whirlpool section with jets that push you around in a circle! This was my daughter's favorite part! -a very fun looking slide with twists and turns. Must be 48 inches to ride, but it wasn't on today anyway. Not a bad plan B on a cold January day :)

They did not use up to date lifting techniques and the equipment was subpar. I decided to leave. Later the owner, Beth, called me up and did not ask why I decided to leave during the class or why I no longer wanted to join but instead she told me they have a drop in rate of $20 per class and she was calling to get a payment by phone. I told her I was never told about a fee. Of course she didn't mention this "fee" before I went into the class, it is not posted on their reception desk, not on the door, and not on their website. I was not at a position where I could stay on the phone and told her I had to go and would search the website again to see if perhaps I had missed the fees notification. She then started getting rude with me. When I got home I searched the website again and their group class schedule and again no mention of any "drop in" fees. This place may do better if they charged a $5 drop in fee just to use the gym or sauna but I wouldn't bother with the classes.

There are also plenty of other ways to stay fit. They have a gym, a basketball court, racquetball court, tennis court and much more. It depends on if you're from Leesburg, or from another town on how much the daily fee is. Their locker rooms are super clean, featuring plenty of showers, bathrooms and lockers. The Ida Lee Park Recreation Center is really nice. There's so much they offer for your growing child to keep them active!

We signed up for private swim classes for my 3-year-old at KIDS FIRST Swim School in Springfield…read more Before starting, we clearly explained that our son is not used to new adults and that we wanted the same instructor consistently so he could feel comfortable and build trust. Unfortunately, almost every week there was a cancellation or instructor change. Out of 6 classes, my son had about 5 different instructors. For a young child who needs consistency, this was very stressful. Each class felt like starting over because he had to adjust to a new adult again, so there was little to no improvement. After about 3 weeks, I complained to the head instructor. Instead of listening or helping, he seemed frustrated and raised his voice back at me, basically saying he already knew. That was very disappointing. My biggest concern is that they require families to schedule private lessons far in advance, but they could not provide a consistent instructor for the set day and time. We chose private lessons specifically for consistency, and they did not deliver that. For families with very young children, especially children who need time to get comfortable with new people, I would not recommend this location for private lessons. It ended up being a huge waste of time and money for us.

I took his "treading water" clinic and in 10 minutes, I was treading water effortlessly; something I've struggled doing for years and even after taking numerous lessons with private instructors (not affiliated with SwimBox). He's taught for 22+ years! and it shows. He simply knows how to coach all the minute details in swimming mechanics. I've always 'm someone with a high muscle to fat ratio and have ALWAYS sank like a rock. He taught me 3 styles to use my hands to tread and 4 styles using my feet. He demonstrated things in the water (such as corkscrews) that I've never seen/heard of before. He's very friendly and personable as well. I've taken the swim analysis and it was super helpful/beneficial. Looking forward to signing up for more classes! Highly recommend!
