Sure, I've heard that folks like Matthew McConaughey and Hakeem Olajuwon have been spotted here buying groceries. I've also heard from friends that Arlan's seems to always have what you need. Though this place is certainly worthy of a full grocery shopping trip, it's medium size also makes it outstanding for quick 3-5 item shopping trips. The meat, produce and packaged foods are all bountiful here. You'll also find plenty of paper goods, greeting cards, candy -- you name it. The beer aisle is impressive, with more micros and local micros than the HEB on TX 96 or the HEB just off Bay Area Blvd. in Webster/Clear Lake. And though the footprint is similar in size to the Kroger in Seabrook, this store is far superior in most every department. The prices are a tiny bit higher here than the typical Wal-Mart. But the cool thing is -- you're not shopping at Wal-Mart! I plan on being a regular here.

This is a Kroger…read more I've been visiting the Houston area for over a decade, and I've seen a few of these. As grocery stores in Texas go, it's solid: Clean and bright and the staff seemed pretty on top of things. They had just about everything we were looking for (including the chili crisp that our Texas fam had never tried) and a decent selection of ribs. Their Easter section was a little picked over, but overall not bad. The produce was solid enough, the checkout lady was super nice, and I love that they have Boars Head meat at the deli counter. Be aware though, if you don't specifically ask them to slice your turkey or ham or whatever thin, you're going to get the thickest cold cuts you've ever had. Or, the thickest cold cuts I've ever had. Maybe that's how you all do it down here, but you're doing it wrong, just like how you pronounce the name of your city. It's HOW-STON.

I'm sure the constantly changing temps isn't good for the food. You can find expired food in every department like dairy, baking goods, canned goods, meat, etc. Restocking is always slow so you may not find what you came there for. Rats pop up often, and if you look for them you can find traps. The one thing that is ok is the isles with sport drinks, soda, juice, wine and beer.

Randall's is part of the Safeway family of supermarkets which also includes Safeway (obviously), Vons, and Dominick's, whose catchment area I'm not familiar with. That said, I went in here and ... badda bing ... my Safeway club card worked. The price points of their items are just like those of Safeway and Vons. They are in the mid-range, with some items featured at good prices. That's why you should read your supermarket flyers ... to find those items. I have bought things from the aisles here but, at this location, I have mostly eaten sandwiches from their deli. Now, while they don't have the excellent spread of sandwiches like Safeway (and Vons) had up on their sandwich board about a decade ago, such as the tender Tuscan chicken and hearty meatloaf sandwiches, you can't complain about a nicely decked out, custom made sandwich for $ 5.99. It's practically a complete meal. I could go with a 3 or a 4 with this Randall's. Yes, the employees come in at about a 3. I won't go into detail. Their merchandise and its prices come in at about a 4. How manicured the shopping center, the parking, the circulation to the major streets, and the neighborhood are make for about a 5. The store itself looks like a 4 from the outside but, then, once inside, it doesn't have the higher ceilings that the exterior seems to suggest.
