What a fine grocer!…read more I've lived in this neck of the woods for a few years and it was only this week that I patronized Arlan's for the first time. Sure, I've heard that folks like Matthew McConaughey and Hakeem Olajuwon have been spotted here buying groceries. I've also heard from friends that Arlan's seems to always have what you need. Though this place is certainly worthy of a full grocery shopping trip, it's medium size also makes it outstanding for quick 3-5 item shopping trips. The meat, produce and packaged foods are all bountiful here. You'll also find plenty of paper goods, greeting cards, candy -- you name it. The beer aisle is impressive, with more micros and local micros than the HEB on TX 96 or the HEB just off Bay Area Blvd. in Webster/Clear Lake. And though the footprint is similar in size to the Kroger in Seabrook, this store is far superior in most every department. The prices are a tiny bit higher here than the typical Wal-Mart. But the cool thing is -- you're not shopping at Wal-Mart! I plan on being a regular here.

This is a Kroger…read more I've been visiting the Houston area for over a decade, and I've seen a few of these. As grocery stores in Texas go, it's solid: Clean and bright and the staff seemed pretty on top of things. They had just about everything we were looking for (including the chili crisp that our Texas fam had never tried) and a decent selection of ribs. Their Easter section was a little picked over, but overall not bad. The produce was solid enough, the checkout lady was super nice, and I love that they have Boars Head meat at the deli counter. Be aware though, if you don't specifically ask them to slice your turkey or ham or whatever thin, you're going to get the thickest cold cuts you've ever had. Or, the thickest cold cuts I've ever had. Maybe that's how you all do it down here, but you're doing it wrong, just like how you pronounce the name of your city. It's HOW-STON.

My kids have a food drive going on right now and I scored quite a bit of things for less than $20. Please keep in mind to get a cart you will need a quarter to remove the cart from the chain but you get it back when you return the cart. They do sell a keychain pouch for you to keep a quarter to have it on hand for a random Aldi visit. They do not bag your items. So no paper bags or grocery bags. Bring a reusable bag or boxes to put your items and easily carry to your car. The store is small so don't expect to spend hours here.

About 2 weeks ago…read moreI went to the cashier to pay for my items and the cashier's name is Elizabeth and she saw me however, she was on her cell phone on a personal call and I waited and she was still on her personal call. I then asked Um do I need to wait until you finish your personal call?? Really. I took my items and went to the self checkout. I spoke to some customer service manager with a red vest and she wasn't attentive or helpful. This week on Wednesday I went to pick up a few items and needed cash back. The cashier ran up my items including beer and the man bagging my items put the sticker on my beer. I forgot to get cash back so I went with my PAID items to self checkout and bought a KitKat to get cash back. As I walking out a white female wearing eyeglasses, short brown curly or wavy hair, yelled loudly at me " Um Ma'am you forgot to pay for your beer" and she yelled it TWICE as she was following me to the door like I was a criminal or stealing beer when you can clearly see the yellow sticker on the case of beer. Please note I'm a HISPANIC woman and this type of racial profiling is unacceptable!! Meanwhile there were 3 other customers walking out while she's accusing me of stealing. I turned around and replied um do you not see the sticker and are you really following me to the exit!! She didn't apologize for accusing me of stealing beer. I was embarrassed, shaking and very upset at this point. When I got to my car with my PAID items I was crying and shaking. WTH and how dare this Kroger employee accuse me of not paying for an item. I immediately called the store and spoke with store manager James and I explained to him was just happened and he seemed preoccupied or annoyed and could care less about what just happened. Again, this is unacceptable and unethical and formal complaints have been filed. Kroger's will reply and IDC as your employees need to be trained and need to do better!! This is not the last they hear of this incident! I'm now shopping elsewhere for my groceries.

I bought $150 worth of things and none of my mega deals came off. Only a couple of coupons so I went to customer service to get my refund and the lady told me that the mega savings and coupons do not stack. I have never in my life been told that before. I am 42 years old and I have been shopping and couponing at Kroger for about 20 years. Manager was extremely rude even when I showed that multiple different occasions they have both stacked. Will not be going back ever again.
