Both the interior and the signage look like those of Safeway and Vons.
    Robert G.

I know I had written a review of this supermarket at a previous time, but I'm not seeing it. So, this review of Randall's in the "South Bay" is a fresh one as opposed to an update. I read reviews of supermarkets in general and see that people are going off based on one interaction or one experience with merchandise. Except for some bargain type supermarkets in sketchy neighborhoods where they are probably conditioned and instructed to view everyone with suspicion, this negativity does not come my way at most chain supermarkets. Randall's is part of the Safeway family of supermarkets which also includes Safeway (obviously), Vons, and Dominick's, whose catchment area I'm not familiar with. That said, I went in here and ... badda bing ... my Safeway club card worked. The price points of their items are just like those of Safeway and Vons. They are in the mid-range, with some items featured at good prices. That's why you should read your supermarket flyers ... to find those items. I have bought things from the aisles here but, at this location, I have mostly eaten sandwiches from their deli. Now, while they don't have the excellent spread of sandwiches like Safeway (and Vons) had up on their sandwich board about a decade ago, such as the tender Tuscan chicken and hearty meatloaf sandwiches, you can't complain about a nicely decked out, custom made sandwich for $ 5.99. It's practically a complete meal. I could go with a 3 or a 4 with this Randall's. Yes, the employees come in at about a 3. I won't go into detail. Their merchandise and its prices come in at about a 4. How manicured the shopping center, the parking, the circulation to the major streets, and the neighborhood are make for about a 5. The store itself looks like a 4 from the outside but, then, once inside, it doesn't have the higher ceilings that the exterior seems to suggest. Overall, this Randall's is a much better than average supermarket in a very nice area.

    Potato Topping

I COULD NOT find my favorite Potato Topping anywhere and the staff (Nathan) exceeded my expectations with their customer service. They special ordered these for me and called me the next day when they came in. Will definitely be shopping here all the time :)

Another beautiful and delicious cake from this awesome bakery!

Thanks to the deli ladies who made us a gorgeous cheese tray! It was a huge hit and I was very pleased at the price! Thanks!

As soon as the call connected, the lady asked if my reservation was for 8 people. I said no, I had just made a reservation for the following day at 11am and simply wanted to make sure everything looked fine on their side. She responded "oh okay," and never once mentioned there was any issue, overbooking, or possibility that our reservation would not be honored. We hung up, and naturally I believed everything was confirmed. The next morning, we arrived on time for our reservation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere already felt uncomfortable. The staff stared at us without greeting us until a woman finally approached and asked if we needed something. I gave the reservation name, and she looked through a notebook full of scribbled notes before saying she couldn't find it and would get the manager. A man came over, asked for my name again, and then bluntly stated, "We don't have you on the list. We're fully booked until 8pm." I was honestly shocked, especially because I had specifically called the night before to confirm everything. Instead of apologizing or trying to help resolve the situation, his demeanor felt cold, dismissive, and as though we were inconveniencing them simply by showing up for a reservation we had made and confirmed. He then stated, "We emailed you stating this." Because there was already a line forming behind us, I simply said "okay" and walked out. As we were walking to the car, I checked my email -- and sure enough, the "email" had been sent at 9:55am THAT SAME MORNING. Our reservation was for 11am. Cancelling a reservation barely an hour beforehand on Mother's Day, after I had already called to confirm the reservation the previous night, was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. This was supposed to be our first time trying this restaurant, but unfortunately the experience and the way the situation was handled left a very sour impression before we even sat down.

We ended up not going because of the wait but I went back with a friend earlier today and it was REALLY good. Like insanely good. I got the Chicken and Gravy while my friend got the Chicken and Waffles and we both finished our plates cleanly. The service was slow, yes, but they were extremely nice and did have multiple prefaces regarding the wait time. The only I had food wise was that the candied sweet potatoes were a little too sweet for me (and trust me, I love myself some candied sweet potatoes) and I feel like the okra or another one of the sides would've been a better fit for me. The chicken I had was extremely tender and juicy, and the gravy had the perfect amount of sweet and salty where I just gobbled it down with everything. The vibe is nice and homey and overall this place was just great. It for sure isn't someplace you can rush through in 30 minutes, but that kinda adds to the experience that you get the minute you walk in.

This review has great energy--you just need it tightened and cleaned 1000 dé cinco estrellas!…read more We visited El Jefe Pollo Asados (620 Nassau Rd in Webster) after a long day of touristy activities, exhausted, with a group of seven--including picky kids. We had so many restaurant options but chose this place because of the high ratings... and I'm so glad we did. I'll be honest--when we first arrived, I wasn't impressed with the outside or the area. I was a little hesitant going in. But the moment we walked through the doors, everything changed. The place felt welcoming, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere--yes, a little loud--but in a good way. It's that lively Mexican vibe: music, micheladas, carne asada... all of it. We were just tired, so I think I noticed it more. Now let's talk about the food... I ordered the Maestro Plate but swapped the meat for short rib costillas--and OH. MY. GOSH. These were hands down some of the best costillas I've ever had. Juicy, tender, packed with flavor. I cleaned those bones completely--every single bite. The dish was served with perfectly grilled "nopales" and queso panela, que ricura! Ahhh, and of course the charro beans and rice that I barely made a dent in. The portions? HUGE. Two of us shared one plate and still had leftovers--and we can eat! Now this part says everything: my grandson, who is on the spectrum and very picky, ordered pollo asado... and he tore into it. No complaints, no hesitation--he finished his entire plate. That alone speaks volumes. My daughter had the birria (and she's a birria critic), and even she couldn't finish her plate because of how generous the portion was--but she said it was full of flavor and really good. My older grandson (big growing boy with an equally big appetite) had a birria quesadilla--again, huge portion--and even he couldn't finish it, which never happens. To top it all off, the owner surprised us with a complimentary dessert--warm, soft, pillowy sopapillas with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. The kids were FULL... and still devoured every last bite. Not a crumb left. And let's talk about pricing... honey. Compared to Austin? This was a steal. I was honestly shocked at how affordable it was for the quality and portion sizes. Amazing food, generous portions, great service, and a place that turned my hesitation into loyalty. They've earned our business--100%. We will absolutely be back next time we're in town.

The Lobster Bisque was clearly plated early so it arrived at the table with a film on top and was warm not hot. I sent it back and it came out warm again! My husband was hungry so ate the bisque anyway. A salmon dish came out way over cooked. My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb medium rare. When served it looked like little lollipops. I honestly would've preferred to have my leftovers from brunch than the dinner we had here. It was a Monday and they were not busy AT ALL so we knew that our service should be top notch... and it was! However, we stood around at the hostess stand for about 3-4 minutes before we even saw the hostess. She asked if we had reservations - which we did - and sat us immediately after asking if we'd prefer a booth or a table. We opted for a table and while my husband had no issues, I found the chairs to be uncomfortable. It could be because I have short legs, but either way... that's just personal preference and has no effect on the rating of my review. Our server, Miguel, was great! He was helpful and attentive, and he even took a few pictures of us for our anniversary. He had some recommendations and took the time to answer any questions. 5/5 stars for him. The food was kind of the let down here. I'm the kind of person who looks at pictures, reads reviews, looks into places to see where to set my expectations, etc. I'm not a picky eater whatsoever so I knew exactly what I was walking into... or so I thought. They give you bread and oil as an appetizer. Usually this is delicious, but there was some seasoning in it that tasted really weird. Thankfully it was only in one side of the dish so we just avoided that particular spice and ate around it. The artichoke Claremont was nasty. I love artichokes and I was excited to try this. My husband was hesitant from the beginning and I wish we would've gotten something else. The hollandaise was thick and chunky, the artichoke wasn't tender except for the very deep inside of it. The heart was the only part that I somewhat enjoyed. My husband didn't like any of it. Our entrees were good. My husband got a Caesar Salad and Gumbo and I got the Opus Pasta. He was very happy with his food and while mine was good, I ended up eating the asparagus by itself instead of with the pasta because I liked the pasta better with no asparagus. The dessert was good. 5/5 - no notes. Will I come back? Probably not unless someone else wants to go for a birthday or something. I had an enjoyable evening with my husband at Opus, but I did not particularly enjoy the food and I wouldn't put this high on my list of places to go.
