Are you tired of being ripped off because they always find something more to repair or charge you an arm and a leg more than they estimated? At first I could hardly believe the owners were class A mechanics that also had an encyclopedic knowledge of virtually anything related to a vehicle you could think of. They actually talked to me like I was an intelligent person who understood my problem and could explain how to fix it in normal language. Not only that they gave me a reasonable estimate of repairs and guaranteed the price before they started repair. The estimate remained solid even if they had to do more to fix it. As you know, this doesn't happen except in your dreams, but here it is guaranteed policy. The last time I was there I thought I might need a new headlight. Nope, just five minutes of my time and a no-charge simple fix that works just fine. Saved me about $400 thank you and have a great day. So do yourself a favor and drop by DTs Garage the next time you need your vehicle repaired or just checked out. You'll be glad you did, like I was.

On the day before dropping my daughter off at FSU, her air conditioning wasn't blowing cold air. It's a 2008 Honda Accord. Since I couldn't get an appointment at my local garage in Jax, I tried to fix it myself with one of the Freon Recharge kits and I apparently accidentally put too much even though it registered green on the gauge, which caused the whole system to stop working I was at My local JAX garage at 7:30 am when they opened to see if they could put gauges on it to try to get the freon levels correct. They took it to the back and the tech said the system would potentially need a full overhaul drain and refill and they wouldn't be willing to do that unless I was prepared that that could cause me to need m an entire new AC system at over $2,000 AND they potentially needed to keep the car for few days. They wouldn't touch it unless I was prepared for the worst. We had to leave to go to Tallahassee, so I decided to find a shop in town to take the car to. I found DT's off Yelp and called and Elon was kind enough to say he would take a look at the system and evaluate it. It was a simple fix of just adjusting down the Freon to the proper levels and he and his team did it and gave the car a through inspection with a simple request for me to just get my future work on both my kids cars done at his place! Todd greeted me and asked what I was looking for and what services I needed. Shawn performed the oil change and took the time to explain the entire process thoroughly, which I really appreciated. It's rare to find this level of transparency and customer care in automotive service today. They even offered me a cold bottle of water while I waited, and both were kind enough to have a friendly conversation as they worked. Although the service took a bit longer than the usual 10-15 minutes, the outstanding customer service made it absolutely worth it. I don't live in this area, but I truly wish more mechanic shops had a Shawn and a Todd on their team. Take 5 Oil Change: Negligence, Dishonesty, and a Total Lack of Accountability…read more If you value your vehicle, your time, and your hard-earned money--avoid Take 5 Oil Change at all costs. My experience with them was not just a minor inconvenience; it was a catastrophic disaster caused by gross negligence, incompetence, and blatant dishonesty. What Happened? On January 18, 2025, I took my car to Take 5 Oil Change (#462) in Tallahassee for a routine oil change. They started the service, realized they didn't have the correct filter, and instead of handling the situation responsibly, they claimed they were putting my old oil back in and sent me on my way with a $7 coupon as if that would somehow make up for their incompetence. Less than a quarter-mile down the road, my engine shut off completely. Stranded and confused, I checked my oil level and found the dipstick bone dry--zero oil in the engine. Take 5 had failed to refill my oil, and my engine suffered catastrophic damage as a direct result. How Did Take 5 Handle Their Negligence? Their customer service rep at the call center, who stayed on the phone with me during the entire ordeal, initially admitted fault and reassured me that Take 5 would "fully compensate" me for any damages. I went to a second Take 5 location (#458) to actually get the oil change done properly, but by that point, the damage was done. A professional diagnosis confirmed my timing chain snapped due to oil starvation, leading to complete engine failure. Instead of owning up to their mistake, Take 5 fabricated a false narrative that they never even got under my vehicle (a lie), that my oil was low when I arrived (another lie) and denied my claim, despite clear evidence to the contrary. The Bottom Line Take 5 Oil Change destroyed my engine due to sheer negligence, lied about it, and then refused to take responsibility. Their "investigation" was nothing more than a corporate cover-up, and their claims process is a sham designed to deny legitimate cases. If you care about your car, your safety, or dealing with an honest business, do yourself a favor--take your vehicle anywhere else. A cheap oil change is not worth the risk of a destroyed engine, thousands of dollars in repairs, and being strung along by a company that refuses to stand behind their mistakes. I will not stop until every potential customer knows the truth about Take 5's shady business practices. Consider this your warning.
