Clean microwave Keurig, recycling bin. Kudos on the First Nations art rather than the generic hotel…read moreprints in the room. Lots of counter/table space. Lots of outlets for plugging stuff in and fast charging USB outlets. Hotel has a gym and includes breakfast and free parking. Breakfast includes grab and go options like yogurt and granola bars, but also hot food items, including scrambled eggs, potatoes, suasage, and ham. Light in gym is on a timer, turned off, and I was in the dark in the middle of a run in the treadmill lol. Nonetheless, a good mix of equipment, though small. Fridge doesn't have a freezer and didn't seem cold enough. Noisy as can hear reception and traffic from rooms on the ground floor. Woken up at 5am by someone's door closing, sounded like it happened right next to my head. Place needs to be spundproofed as any noise in the hall can be heard inside the rooms. Shower walls need to be cleaned better, there were a couple of hairs left behind. Also, the dispenser amenities are just not as sanitary and reliable as the mini bottles. The body wash was open and clearly had been open for awhile and was congealing/out of product.

The room looks decent and clean. It has a nice/decent pool at the back. There is a restaurant…read moreconnected to the hotel so it's convenient. The outside doesn't represent the inside. You can tell the hotel has been recently renovated. Free parking is available onsite.

Duncan Motel - My temporary home now... it'd been nicely renovated and the new manager is very friendly and welcoming to all

My wife and I stayed at the Duncan Motel for 6 nights while we were exploring the area…read more The motel is about a block from the Trans Canada highway and conveniently located near the library, downtown, restaurants, and coffee houses. The photos of rooms may have been taken a few years ago when the motel was given a modern vibe makeover. The modern touches are still nice though there has been some wear. The room we stayed in is considered a deluxe and comes with a big TV, microwave, coffee maker, AC, and a small refridgerator with tiny freezer.  Our small room had a comfy bed with bedside lights and outlets for charging devices. Wifi is good.  There is a small table with two chairs in the room for reading or breakfast though the weather was so nice we often sat at the table outside our unit. The shower is a joy! It is a spacious walk in with a large window for light and plenty of hot water. Towels, soap, shampoo, and lotion are provided. The motel has a laundry area that is open 8am-8pm.  The Duncan Motel is in a quiet area transitioning into an area with more apartment buildings. No, it's not the best neighborhood, but is safe and very walkable. The manager closes the big gate at the entry from 11pm-5am to add further security. Staff are super friendly and helpful and we have met some other very nice young and older guests. I definitely recommend the Duncan Motel for your next Cowichan Valley stay.

The rooms are basic but clean and well kept and are great value with friendly and professional staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Duncan Motel to any companies looking to house travelling workers or tourists on a budget. These places are so often "hit or miss" and Duncan Motel is a hit.

Owner was very adamant that I pay for both rooms even though it was an obvious mistake. When I was trying to explain that I only made 1 reservation he kept asking to see my phone. When I went into my email he grabbed my phone and scrolled through my emails. He then said he'd give me a 40% discount on one of the rooms if I gave him an exceptional review which I did not agree to do. Further into our argument he changed to 30% and then back to 40 when I said you said 40. He then filled out paperwork for both rooms and insisted that I sign them both. When I said I wanted keys to both rooms he said no you only get key for 1 room. I said if I am paying for both I get both keys. He said no and held onto key until I signed both papers. I felt so violated by that entire experience. He later called my cell phone to see if I wanted or needed anything??? The rooms are very old and dated and do not look like pictures posted. Bathroom appears to have mould around floorboards. Beds were very lumpy and only had a bedsheet and itchy old blanket to cover with. The housekeepers do an excellent job of making the rooms presentable. Overall with the sketchy owner this hotel is the epitome of Fleabag hotel. I do not recommend at all

The bed was always well made and comfortable and the mini kitchen area and big fridge were most appreciated for easy cooking. The walk to the main stores in Cowichan Bay was easy. Within five minutes you're eating at awesome local restaurants like The Masthead and The Vine or able to take a bioluminescent Kayak tour in the bay. I would recommend the stay here. The wifi is also very good and the people in charge are polite. Thank you!!!
