Run down TOURIST TRAP! FALSE ADVERTISING. The rooms, the grounds and the property are so rundown. We booked a 'KING PLUS STUDIO', the description on their site reads: This room has a full kitchen. Approx 400 sq ft of BRAND NEW living space! Carpets are heavily stained throughout. As I am putting items in the fridge, beside the stove, I snag by pants on something sharp. It turns out its a huge screw coming out of the stove where there is supposed to be a handle to open the oven. However, the handle is broken off and what's left is all jagged on both sides. I go over to turn on the bedside lamp and one lamp is burnt out and both of them are half broken and wobbling. There is nothing 'brand new' about it. The furnishings are all heavily worn, soiled and look second hand. My husband leaves his $10,000 professional camera equipment in the room because I said to him that we don't need to take that back to Sooke just to lug it down to the room when we get back. We had come from our friend's place in Sooke and we were transitioning to our other friends in Duncan but needed a one night stay in between. We decided to leave our personal belongings safe in Sooke, go for the day to the Malahat Skywalk, (which by the way was awesome and totally worth seeing - we loved it) then drive back to collect out things that late afternoon as we didn't feel comfortable loading up our car and leaving our valuables inside for the day at the Malahat Skywalk parking lot. We met a local woman at the Skywalk as we were leaving and I asked her if we should have lunch at the restaurant where we were staying - she said 'NO' it used to be good but it has been terrible for many years now. That should have been my next 'clue'. She recommended we go into Mill Bay Marina and have lunch at Bridgemans Bistro - again a great recommendation!! After lunch we noticed in Mill Bay there was a Thrifty's, this is where we had stopped to buy the food we put in the room. We go to Sooke, pick up our stuff, and return around 7:15pm. We start to unload the car and we go to open the room and the keyless entry code is not working. I walk over to the Restaurant, equally as run down as the room, which is too bad because the views are beautiful and it could be an amazing space! Lori (the owner who I met earlier that day) comes over and I tell her that our code is not working. She says 'oh that is so strange as I know we just replaced the batteries today for that lock'. There we are there, with all our stuff from the car in the corridor. I now notice there is broken glass all down the outdoor corridor. There is a 'planter box' that runs behind where we are standing and there is an empty liquor bottle. Then we walk to the end of the outdoor corridor where there is a broken set of wooden stairs and an old bar fridge tossed out there?? Why would you leave these items on site for your guests to see? They asked if we left the sliding glass door unlocked and we said 'no' as we have our valuables in the unit. We can't believe they don't have the keys for this unit. They have owned this place for 9 years and don't have a full set of keys for every unit!! Long story short, they can't get in, they put us in another room. It's now 9:30pm, and they say they will put is in another unit, an 'upgrade'. We get into the next unit. Worse than the first!! Heavily stained carpets too, scratched and broken table, more broken lamps but at least they both turned on. Dirty towels, MOLDY fridge, and to top it off there is some stuck on chunky food on the bathroom floor!!! The sliding glass door lock is completely missing so you can't even secure your belongings in this unit it you leave for the day!!! They said in the morning they will drill the lock but an hour later they come to let us know they drilled it and we got our food and my husband's camera. When I tried to address this with the owner she was rude, argumentative, and condescending. She finally agreed to refund $248, however, she only actually refunded me $230. To date of this review still now there is no detailed explanation. read more
