The motel is well-appointed, with recently renovated "deluxe" rooms as well as regular rooms. I've only stayed in the deluxe rooms, which were very comfortable and perfectly clean. All rooms share a large covered deck between them and the parking lot, providing great shelter in bad weather and a nice place to sit and chill in good weather. There is ample parking with room for larger vehicles and trailers. The motel is pet friendly and chargers a modest $15 pet fee. Be sure to let them know if you have a pet when you're booking. Staff is very friendly and the housekeeper even shared a story about how the motel was the filming site of the movie The Horse Whisperer. Cool!

We had the brussel sprout app which was also good. Mind you, we live in an area where food is often farm to table, so our palate is spoiled. That being said, we were not disappointed in the meal or the wine. What removed a star was the service. The server, while very sweet, didn't ask whether we wanted another glass of wine (when empty glass - ask!) and then brought our bill without asking if we wanted dessert first (which we did). Another thing we noticed is that the bartender, while interacting with guests talked about himself a lot. He should be asking guests more questions about themselves rather than talking about himself so much. Again, NICE guy ! So... minor errors. Still highly recommend!

And, forget about being able to recharge all your devices at once (being an older building, there very few easily accessible outlets). But, if you want a place that is clean and comfortable, and the staff nice, then this is a good place to lay your head for the night. While this small (only 12 or so rooms) motel is a bit out dated, it's one if the cleanest places that I've ever stayed at (eby - even before Yelp :-D ). The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is the standard Continental affair. Being old school (or, maybe just old, ugh), I was surprised that being an independent place, they didn't have cash discounts. So, to me, the price of $96 seems a bit high to me for a bare-bones place like this. Also, something they do that I wasn't happy to see: they write your c/c and CVV numbers down in case of damage to the room. I just hope they destroy it to where it can't be used. Now, I gotta watch my card more closely.

Your first view of the log cabin lodge reveals an unpretentious structure that is very roomy inside with a large common room that serves as a gathering/breakfast space, seeming to be, with the loft, a nice facility for groups. The Lodge is constructed of logs that remained after a fire consumed 12,000 acres including much of the ranch. The hosts Ruth and Blick shared their story about the building of the lodge which we found fascinating. Our rooms were very spacious with cathedral ceilings with outside entrances/porches. A pond lies just outside the Lodge and a stream just steps further(our fishing skills were too limited to take advantage of those opportunities). Cattle graze all around the site as part of its ranch setting in the coulee and we saw turkeys and deer along the road. Breakfasts were simple but good with large portions and very accommodating (we needed breakfast at 7 AM and it was on the table right on time each day). The long rock/dirt lane road made us wonder whether we were in the right place but signage assured us that we were. The road also encouraged us to stay in during the evenings which was fine for us and resulted in a very tranquil stay. This was our first exposure to Montana "ranch" life and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Preparing meals together was a valuable experience during the reunion. Six individual rooms like hotel rooms -- private bath, closet and area to unpack suitcases, towels, linen, roll-away beds, clock-radios, porch-space outside. High ceilings and quaint log construction. Large common area for dining and socializing. Internet by satellite -- adequate for Email and web, but you won't be streaming video. Cell phones out of range, but you can get cell service by driving 1.5 miles up the road to the ridgetop. Hiking and some fishing on the stream nearby. Large pond for a canoe or raft. Garden flowers and green lawn. Cattle on the surrounding ranch are entertainment. Near enough to Big Timber. The only shortcoming: this area recovering from a fire a few years ago; surrounding hillsides show dead twisted trees with new trees only beginning to grow -- namesake "Burnt Out" lodge. Would certainly go back again; would certainly recommend.

Some hotels do placemaking well and add little touches to make it special. I'm not sure anyone put that kind of effort into that here. They tidied up, stood back and said "that's good enough." The lobby and restaurant are decent, but the rooms are very unimpressive. The TV didn't work, there were cords all over the place that were covered in dust and haphazardly pushed into the corner. No decor in sight. It just felt a little depressed. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, so that's good. But as for providing a little something that makes it stand out, it's not really there.

Oh, that's only me? Wellll, whatever your reason for stopping through Columbus, you'd be hard pressed to find a cozier place to lay your head. Small cabins that don't feel cramped, with comfy and clean beds, showers with pressure and heat, and a small tv/fridge/microwave to keep you full on amenities. We'd hoped to make smores on the fire pit outside, but an early start the next day bit us in the butt. Some reviewers on the big G mention the train being a nuisance, but I imagine you'd hear it anywhere in town. Keep your windows shut or get ear plugs if you think that'll bother you.

Most other hotels/motels looked basically the same so it was nice to see something different here. There were definitely some spots which could benefit from some fresh paint or something but it wasn't a big deal. The check-in process was on the other hand more modern. Not "we have an app" modern but they have keypad locks on all the room doors so check-in was handled through a text message (which included the door code). A phone call was also an option but texting was easier for me because we were on the road and didn't always have reception. Text messages also mean all the info would be available if I needed to check it later. We were only there to sleep so we didn't need any assistance, but if anything came up we would have had to call or text the manager since there was nobody on-site. Hopefully in those cases they can respond and/or show up quickly. We do sometimes have good conversations with the front desk people but a quick simple check-in is also great. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked well. The one surprise in the room was that the tv was on when we walked in. I'm not used to that but we noticed that Top Gun: Maverick was on so we ended up watching it.

Stay here, If you can get a room. Unless you like chain hotels, then stay down the road…read more I have been past this place so many times and it always appeared as though a series of small shops rather than a motel. Wow -- what was I doing to make that silly a mistake? The Livingston Inn is a boutique hotel that's been around for years. It's an unusual setup, a long hallway on a single level with a couple of doors to the outside and the rooms on the other side of the hallway. That makes for less noise from neighbors across the hall and allows guests to walk across the hall to the nearest door to get outside and get into their cars. No long walks to find an elevator, dragging your luggage, and then walking past rows of cars to get to yours. It's a style more reminiscent of a motel than a hotel. The rooms are unusual, at least mine was, with the small refrigerator, microwave, sink and coffee maker on one side of the room all on an L-shaped counter and the bed on the opposite side. It felt like a small, efficiency apartment. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the wi-fi worked well. There was a lot of room to walk around in the room without tripping over something. Check in was a little strange, most likely because it is a small family-run hotel, and there isn't always anyone at the desk, even if you have a reservation, so while you wait you can explore the touristy stuff, maybe start a game of chess. The most unusual thing about the check-in, is that there is no key -- you are given a code and instructions on how to punch-in the code on your room door. If you've ever done a vacation rental home, you'll understand the process. No key to lose or misplace. Despite being on a main road, it's quiet here and a good spot to kick off exploration of the area.
