After years of patronizing Glen Ivy, we recently found ourselves looking for a new spa sanctuary due to their declining standards. Sunstone Spa at Agua Caliente turned out to be the perfect discovery for our 12th-anniversary weekend in Palm Springs. I chose to book over the phone rather than online to get a better feel for the facility. The representative was incredibly kind and informative, and I received email confirmations almost immediately. Upon arrival, check-in was seamless, and we were quickly guided in for our services. The staff took the time to give us a full tour and answer all our questions; their attentiveness and constant check-ins throughout the day made it easy to relax fully. While smaller than some other luxury spas, the facility feels pristine, modern, and perfectly maintained. The treatments themselves were world-class! 60-Minute Aloe Lavender Body Wrap: Highly recommend! Beyond leaving my skin ultra-soft and glowing, the included head and foot massage was the perfect finishing touch. 60-Minute Arnica Massage: A truly premium experience and honestly one of the best massages I've had in years. A new benchmark for therapeutic bodywork! Afterward, I enjoyed the steam room, dry sauna, and the salt room. The Salt Room proved to be incredibly therapeutic; despite some minor coughing during the 10-minute session, it entirely cleared my respiratory tract of seasonal allergy symptoms by the following morning. Dry Palm Springs Heat + Salt Room = Relief! Because it wasn't overcrowded, the entire experience felt exclusive and deeply relaxing. The entire day felt like a private, luxurious retreat. Incredibly disappointing. My friend and I typically go to the Sec He Spa in Palm Springs, which is a completely wonderful experience every time. They were fully booked for the day that we wanted to come, and suggested that we try their "sister spa" at Agua Caliente: Sunstone. It was a completely different experience in every way, and I don't know how anyone who has experienced Sec He would be happy with Sunstone, especially when they are about the same price for treatments. Here were the differences: When we arrived and were brought into the spa area by an attendent, she was unsmiling, not welcoming and did the very basics. The spa is about 1/4 the size of Sec He, with none of the beauty in the detail and design-very bland and unattractive...similar to a doctor's office-especially the tiny room where you wait for treatments. It has very few options for anything...tiny sauna, tiny steam room and the salt chamber was literally a plastic box that holds a single person at a time. My friend commented that it looked like the penalty box at a hockey game. At Sec He, by comparison, their salt room is a beautiful ROOM where multiple people can take the salt in a large space. When we wanted to actually use the salt penalty box, we had to hunt down an attendent both times to add the salt to the machine and that took time and was aggravating trying to find them as there seemed to be only two attendents working. We decided to experience the grounding room: nice zero gravity chairs with headphones and a choice of listening experiences. Great....except that the grounding room is a pass through to the other areas of the spa and the entire time you are in there people are walking through, talking, laughing, including the attendents and treatment staff who would come in looking for people waiting for treatments...(why not the waiting room??). The doors on each end of the grounding room have LOUD door handles so every single time someone came through you had two sets of jangly door handles announcing their entry and exit. Such a terrible design, and the staff do nothing to try and keep the area quiet and zen as it should be. By about 11:30, we had pretty much exhausted all the spa had to offer so went out to the pool to order lunch. We had been told that we could order "room service" from there, but there were no waiters and we finally had to go hunt someone down to find one. We were presented with the regular room service menu for the hotel next door, (no "spa food" or refreshing drinks, juices, etc that you typically expect at a spa) waited again for a waiter to take our order, and about 45 minutes later, our order came out in plastic to go containers in a plastic bag. Hardly a spa experience. The food was just meh. We both had massages scheduled in the afternoon and both of them were just OK. The massage rooms are nice, with great massage beds with lots of features, but I asked for the deep tissue massage and it was not....very inconsistent and very light touch, and my friend got the massage that is supposed to combine multiple different styles and she also felt that is was just OK. In a world with many, many bigger problems than a bad spa day, you may wonder why I would take the time to complain about that. But the reality is, between my friend and myself, we spent over $600 at Sunstone for what was a very subpar experience. We never felt "attended to" or welcomed by the staff, the spa itself leaves much to be desired, the locker room is tiny and makes it difficult for people to change and manage their items in there, but there is only one private dressing room. There were so many disappointments with this experience and we both work hard for our money. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great experience to go to Sec He in Palm Springs-especially since they have the private mineral baths as part of your experience. It boggles my mind that the same tribe would call these "sister spas" when they are NOTHING alike in quality, options, services, size, decor and experience. Save your money. Fabulous as always! Diana was my masseuse- tiny adorable lady with hands with a strength of a weight lifter! I go here every month or every other month. Love the private outdoor pool, food service, and the attendants are very attentive! Sauna and it's never very crowded in the summer! It's not the cheapest place in town. But compared to what most places charge for just a massage/ it's more than worth it. Spend the afternoon enjoying all the amenities! Then have your dinner at the Steakhouse (resv needed $$$) or Waters Cafe. I just had the most delicious prime rib French dip. I'm relaxed and satisfied with my spa day even tho it's 110 outside. if your a resident in CV you get a small discount at the Spa. First off complementary parking we just pulled up, handed our key to the valet and we walked right up to the beautiful doors of the Spa. Our group was greeted by Friendly reception area Staff, everyone was very helpful and friendly. we were given a Complimentary Bottle of water the Fru fru kind along with a cutesy drawstring bag for your "What Nots" . Our host showed us to the spa and gave us a tour, which was very very nice. Everything was clean very quiet, relaxing atmosphere., refreshments, and nourishing infused waters Throughout the spa, including some Fresh fruit and snacks. The ladies locker room area was a little tight, but it was OK. Everyone was kind and careful to say excuse me and to give people space they needed. There was also a private area to change in if you wanted . the showers were the most amazing feeling in the world very warm, hot water very clean they had toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, potions, and whatever you needed. Fantastic spa, can't wait to go back! Deep Tissue-Arnica massage by Michael was tension relieving. All massages come with hot stones and aromatherapy built into the massage oil- LOVE! The massage bed was so comfortable and they even had a cooling gel mask in the face pillow so you are fully relaxed while face down. In the Women's lounge is a wet steam room, dry sauna, salt booth (halotherapy), and a hot tub. The website lists aromatherapy in sauna and steam room but I didn't smell anything going on. I absolutely love the attention to detail of everything: Moroccan Oil brand hair products, skincare products (cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer), AND sunscreen available (reefsafe spf 30 or 50). They will also provide hair straightener and curling iron. Contact lens case too! Women's only room with vibrating massage chairs that fully recline to zero gravity. The Coed space has great snacks and beverages including mocktails free to order. A private outdoor pool for spa guests. And a food menu for purchase. I am very picky with service and spas in particular. I went to their sister spa first (Sec he) which may be the newest and shiniest new spa in the valley but I found lackluster. Sunstone is smaller and older but the retail shelves were clean and organized. The facilities were clean and inviting. Most important to me: the staff was top tier. They were warm, helpful, and accommodating. (Which is the opposite at sec he) My sister forgot something in her robe pocket and they turned over heaven and earth to get it back for us. I've been to a few spas in the valley and this one is by far my favorite. Very happy to have finally found a spa that meets my expectations. read more

The location is really lovely and the staff were kind and friendly. I booked the gel manicure however and the end result was really disappointing. I don't usually get my nails done so it was kind of a treat but I had a gift card and at check out they didn't ask how my service was so I didn't feel like making a fuss. But my nails look so much worse than they did when I arrived. There is something still on them that is pulling my skin and there's a polish all over the place. Also the massage part was much shorter than I thought it would be. In terms of the day spa area the whirlpool and sauna area doesn't seem to be a quiet area as there was a group of women talking so if you're looking for a more peaceful spa it doesn't really fit that vibe. LOVED IT! My boyfriend and I visited this spa during our weekend getaway in Rancho Mirage, and it was an amazing experience. The spa was clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful--there's nothing I would change. We booked the 60 minute full body gemstone massage, and my therapist applied plenty of pressure (which I love) while also incorporating some stretches. Go on a Monday that doesn't follow a holiday and you will have the place to yourself. I last paid $80 for a haircut. I can make a short drive to the desert and pay $85 and get entrance to the spa for the whole day to boot. My husband and I made a day of it and enjoyed all the amenities and had lunch by the pool. For under $250 we had a spa day, had a service, enjoyed all the amenities and lunch, and felt totally pampered. Highly recommend! read more

Went to get a 30 min back of body massage yesterday! I arrived early about an hour before my appointment and upon arrival I was greeted and checked in by a very friendly staff at the front desk and provided a free bottle of water!They got me all checked in and then an another friendly male employee escorted me back to the men's locker room and showed me how to use the lockers to secure all my clothes and belongs and provided me with a robe and sandals to wear! Once I was changed another male employee came an got me and took me on a tour of the facility and showed and explained all the amenities I was able to use and enjoy before my massage appointment! Once I was done with my tour of the facility i wanted to try the HALOTHERAPY machine so the male employee who provided me the tour got the machine all set up and ready and I went into the booth for 10 mins and WOW what an experience after I got out of the HALOTHERAPY machine my sinuses felt amazing and my head felt clear and I could breathe a lot better! I then gave the steam room a try for bout 10-15 mins and that relaxed me and opened up all my pores! I then went and took and amazing rain shower and they have shampoo conditioner and body wash in the showers for you to use to clean my body from all the salt powder from the HALOTHERAPY machine and sweat from the steam room and the shower was amazingly awesome! Once I was done with my shower I dried off and put my robe on and went into the men's lounge and sat in the reclining massage chair and relaxed and waited for my massage appointment! Approx 30 mins later the massage therapist Sal came and got me and to me back to the massage room and got setup to start my massage! Sal was awesome and provided a very relaxing massage with essential oils and a lot of pressure which was needed to work a lot of knots and stiffness out of my back from working 50 hours a week at my job!!! Once I was finished with my massage I went and took another amazing rain shower to wash off the oils used from the massage and went and changed back in to my clothes and grab my belongings out of my locker! Then went back to the front desk where I was greeted again by the friendly staff and asked how my experience was and checked out!!! I will definitely be back in the future as I had an amazing experience and felt very relaxed when I was done with my appointment! So this is my 2nd time here. Being rate as the 3rd best spa in the US. Mmmm, well don't get me wrong it's a great place but still needs some work, both times I have been here there have been multiple people around the Co-Ed pool on their phones and very load for all to hear. You may want to have a no taking on phone policy. Sitting on the men's side is not the most relaxing listening to the hotel pool with it screaming kids and music playing also as it's a casino they obviously have a smoking area very close to the men's relaxation area so you do get the smell of smoke not pleasant. The second time that I have been here was extremely quiet. I was greeted by a attendant called Cody. He is a little strange. Let's just say that, and I didn't find him very helpful. This casino and Spa is on the corner of an extremely busy road and highway 10 so if you're expecting a relaxing, no noise day you're not going to get it here you do hear a lot of traffic. They do have a nice selection of herbal teas and snacks for you to try including local date cookies and it was nice as a local to receive a 10% discount on my day pass that was much appreciated . read more

What a great day spent at Sunstone! We paid for the day pass and were able to use the facilities all day! Every employee was friendly and willing to help and answer any question. The Eucalyptus steam room seemed a little overwhelming because of the strong scent, but when I took a cold towel in there with me to cover part of my face, it was perfect! The sauna was amazing and the halotherapy salt chamber was so great. My skin felt so exfoliated and soft! The jacuzzi was so relaxing as well. The slippers and robe provided were so comfortable. We ordered the mock tails that are free of charge and the lemon lime and watermelon were the favorite for our group! We also ordered the bbq chicken flatbread and jalapeño poppers, so good as well. We also spent some time in the women's lounge and those chairs are so relaxing! In the coed lounge we found the best snack provided by Shields Date Gardens. Our whole experience left us wanting more, next time we will also get a treatment. But definitely putting this at the top of our list for a day of relaxation. I wanted to love this spa. Having been to so many it was nice to go to one close to home. The check in process was interesting. I wasn't greeted warmly at all. I didn't have a reservation and that was my fault. I was rejected immediately. Then, another gal said well, we can get you in if you want to purchase a service. Okay, I wasn't planning g on it and I needed a pedicure so cool it worked out. Then two of the girls started whispering right in front of me. Super awkward and unprofessional! The staff who supports patrons poolside and inside the spa itself were tremendous! The spa is beautiful, small and it wasn't crowded at all when i were there. The spa is beautiful and practically perfect, I think no one can argue that. My one star is from having an experience I've never had at a spa before. A man walked in while I was naked in the woman's area pool. He walked in from the outside doors which was a woman's patio area. He went straight to a cooler across from the eucalyptus steam room, filled with tiny water bottles and grabbed a few which made me believe he had done that before. There was one employee who was blonde, collecting towels, she seemed deer in a head lights. I seriously almost got up out of the pool naked the escort him out because she wasn't doing anything. After he grabbed the water bottles he tried to leave through the sauna and the employee finally stopped him and said he had to leave. I couldn't believe it. He even apologized to me on his exit out. I went to shower after this happened and an employee named Francesca was talking about the situation to the blonde employee collecting towels. I stopped her to inform her I was there as well and it was very uncomfortable. I think what was more unnerving about this situation is as I left with my Husband, I noted to the desk girl about my experience. She quickly gaslighted me by saying security took care of it. Not an apology, not any sort of remorse or even stepping into my shoes for a moment to think about my experience. I paid really good money to go to the number #1 spa in California and this was my experience? I stopped her to say I was actually the only patron there who witnessed the entirety of it and it was not taken care of well.. that I am bringing it to her awareness so it doesn't happen to someone else. I then asked to speak to someone who cares about the repertoire of this spa and maybe even about my experience.. Lizeth the manager comes out to speak to me. She was nice, apathetic and offered me a discount on my total amount. I wasn't necessarily looking for any handouts or freebies, I thought a discount was the least they could do. But after sharing my experience with my wax lady, who is a local native to the area, she was shocked and said Agua Caliente should have comped me for my entrance fee at the least. Not my husbands but at the very least mine. She also encouraged me to leave this review and said this is an outrageous experience. After talking to Lizeth, although very sweet, her way of explaining the situation was again, unnerving. I asked how is it that a man could make his way into a woman's private area? She said "they" are looking for shelter and to stay cool in the heat. I assumed "they" are the local transplants she was referring to. She said it's easy to unlock a hinge from a gate they have, and even re-enacted it for me by showing me with her hands how easy it is. Now get this.. my husband really wanted to play in the casino after so we stayed a bit longer .. no joke! We are leaving to the parking garage and the man who walked in the woman's private area and saw me naked was sitting at bench right outside the doors. Security took care of it? What a joke. My husband even noted that the man recognized me coming out and put his head down and covered his face. It's crazy to think the spa legit lied to me about taking care of anything.. very unprofessional and I really hope they do care about their patrons enough to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

Today I had Drea (spelling?) and she provided excellent service. Prior to getting started, she asked all the questions of the type of massage I wanted. She was able to identify problem issues that I had, and focused on those areas. And in the end she gave me some pointers on how to work out the knots with some equipment. read more

I cannot even begin to sing the praises of Andrea! My husband and I did the Milk & Honey Retreat! It was exquisite! I thought the bath part was ok and the scrub was nice. But oooooh the massage. My knots were melting away. Andrea has great technique and is intuitive as to what is needed. She was gracious when I asked for more pressure a couple times and did a fantastic job. Making arrangements was great; but plan ahead I tried 2 mos. ago and they were booked solid. This was our 2nd time coming here and I was staying at the hotel so it was SUPER convenient; but pricey. the Facilities are great everything from the Jacuzzi's, Sauna, waiting area and even where I arranged a pedicure/manicure for my spouse. It was lovely and I liked their packages. The only thing I encourage is that when making arrangements be specific in what you want especially if you're going to pay the big price for it all. Be specific and up front when you make the arrangements and when you arrive so that you get all that you're paying for in the session. I did a 90 min session and it felt like less because I was so relaxed. read more

Have not even started our service and it's just so disorganized. We came for a couples massage and came in early to enjoy the amenities. First they didn't have anyone male on staff to take my husband into the locker room check in, so my husband had to wait for 20 minutes just to get access to his locker. When the staff member showed up, first thing they said was that they were new. The new employee who was checking him in didn't know where sandals were, did not do an orientation and told my husband that he doesn't know how to get to the pool, leaving my husband to wander around until he found the pool area. I cannot recommend this spa experience enough! 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our day at Sunstone as part of my sister's bachelorette celebration. The team there made our experience stellar from start to finish: ease of booking, amazing amenities (all details considered!) before and after our individual services (pool, showers, saunas, relaxation rooms... all of it!), and we all very much enjoyed our massages, facials and mani/pedis. The spa attendants were lovely and so helpful as we got settled and ensured we were hydrated (the mocktails were so refreshing!) and happy during our visit. Food is available via room service from the attached hotel and it was delicious. I will be sure to repeat this experience next visit to Palm Springs!
